Photoshop :: Actions Possible Without Opening Raw File?
Oct 26, 2012
Is it possible to record certain actions on a raw file without opening the file in Photoshop?
Let's assume I have 250 files, all needing lens correction (and maybe other common tweaks) as a basic first step. I'd like to be able to record an action that
(1) opens my NEF file in ACR;
(2) makes the lens correction based on the profile for the particular lens I used;
(3) [other tweak--say noise reduction];
(4) [other tweak--say color temperature]; and then
(5) closes the file generating nothing but the .xmp file.
Then when I go to work on each file, all my basic corrections have been made so that when I reopen later in ACR, I only have to make custom changes before finally opening in Photoshop.I've tried a few things, scanned the forums, checked the online help center, gone through a few Adobe TV tutorials, but I can't figure out how to do it.
I'm a commercial photographer using PSCS2. I routinely will shoot small jobs with between 100 and 200 images. I shoot RAW 100% of the time (Canon 10D & 20D). I transfer the images from the CF cards to my computer with a card reader and then use Bridge to open them up. I rename them in Bridge and delete any obvious dogs. The rest (say 140+ images) I open in Camera RAW. I do all of the exposure, white balance, saturation and the like in Camera RAW. The only thing that I like to do in Photoshop proper is to sharpen the images with Smart Sharpen and then save the crw/cr2 files as either psd files, jpegs or both. I'll write an Action to accomplish that.
I take the 140 RAW files and I open them ALL AT ONCE in Photoshop. Once they're open I can use the Automate feature and run the Action on all of the open files. But to open this many files takes about an hour to an hour and a half! My computer I should mention is a 64 bit AMD with 2 gig of memeory so it's no dog.
Can I run the action on the files in a folder WITHOUT OPENING THEM?
like the headline says, I'm looking for a way to change the direction to which the windows in photoshop pop up. To make this clearer, I have illustrated what I want to do
Is there an option in the preferences (if so i can not find it)? Or any other way to do this?
Trying to automate file saving in different sizes/formats through an Action in PS CS3. However, always closes the open image after the first save. Any way to automate saves but leave the images open in PS?
I'm using Photoshop and the Fit Image command to resize my images for a slide show program. The slide show software does not offer the ability to place the image number anywhere on the image. Is there someway to write an action in Photoshop that will grab the image name and place it where I designate on the image? Even stretching the canvas and filling with black and placing the name there would work. I'm not sure if this is possible or if I need to find an Apple Script to do this.
I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and thats when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit load actions and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldnt find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just dont run.
Im a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
I used to be able to just open any image and my copyright info would be inserted into the file data. I guess it was a droplet, "when the file is opened or created then add file info from a xmp file". I still have the xmp file with all the data in but i am unsure how to implement it being automatically opened and added to the file when i create a new one? I thought i could handle it, i assume its a droplet of some sort.
My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.
Working with Edge version 1.5.0 and Visual Studio 10. Just about finished with a project and now all of my code has disappeared from Edge, I can't see any of my triggers on the timeline or events on the buttons. I can still open the html in a browser and everything still works but I can't do any more edits inside of Edge because I can't see the code in there.
The edge actions file has all the code, but Edge does not see any of it inside Edge. I tried pasting the full code back into Edge but it would not save it. How can I get edge to see the code again?
when trying to reopen a file from the "recently used" file list? When I try to click on a file from the list it gives me a message stating "error opening file". I know this will happen if the file has been moved to another location, but the files are in the same place as when I originally opened them. None of the files in the list will open anymore. Is this a pathing issue?
A fellow co-worker accidentally checked the box that says "don't open this file" (or something like that) that appears when a language file is missing upon opening a file from a client. He then also "accidentally" clicked the "perform this action every time" so as the warning window wouldn't appear any more. As a consequence there are now files that we cannot open on that computer. I've searched through system variable lists and come up empty handed.....
For photoshop, there's URL... (scroll down to "ActionFileToJavascript") which can convert recorded photoshop actions into jsx. Is there any such resource for Illustrator?
By Opening File into AutoCAD I can set the Custom Property(dwgname,dwgid,projectname) of the File. But I want to set value of these properties without opening AutoCAD application.
I can set it using: public void SetAttributes(Hashtable hashTable,String fileOpenPath){ Document Doc = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.Open(fileOpenPath);
Can we create this Object using any other way??
Database Db = Doc.Database; DatabaseSummaryInfoBuilder DbSib = new DatabaseSummaryInfoBuilder(); Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.TransactionManager tm = Db.TransactionManager; using (Transaction aTran = tm.StartTransaction())
I Have transferred a CS6 Raw photo session from camera to hard disk. Now some files show all camera details and they are working fine but some files show only right photo number and proper file size and Photoshop can't recognize them. The file names are exactly same type. Is there any way to fix these hidden files?
I am trying to open an EPS file in photoshop. It was only around75k o the floppy but when I try to open it in photoshop it displays a window titled "Rasterize generic EPS format" It then shows the following details.
If I try to open the image at this time it takes forvever and eventually everything freezes. If I try to open the image at a lower width and height it opens really small then when I zoom in its all blurred.
I just large sign for a hockey rink. I created it in Photoshop and saved it as an eps( the printer requested it be submitted in this form.) The file is very large( 600 mb) and now that I need to open it to edit it Photoshop just crashes. I am using Photoshop cs5 on 3.06 ghz duo core mac with 4 gb of ram.
When opening a file in CS6 the file opens at 0.4%. How can I set the view so that the file opes and fills the screen as the default viewing percentage.
I am having trouble opening an EPS file in Photoshop CS5. Previously, PS wasn't opening at all, but I cleaned up my fonts and I can now open some files. This particular EPS file, however, causes the application to crash every time. I recently had similar trouble with Firefox and Flash and have since upgraded to 10.7. Crash report below:

I'm on Photoshop CS6 13.1.2 on a mid 2010 MacPro running OS/X 10.8.3. Everytime I start up Photoshop it also opens up a .psb image file which was editing some time ago. I don't want it opening on startup. I have tried:
1. Closing the tab
2. File/Close and then exiting Photoshop and starting up again. The file sill loads.
3. Command-Option-Shift on startup to reset Photoshop. The file stil loads.
How do I stop this file from loading automatically on startup?
I have a new installation of Photoshop CS4 running on Windows 7 in Bootcamp. I"ve applied the latest updates. The program hangs whenever I try to open a file or start a new one.
