I'm a commercial photographer using PSCS2. I routinely will shoot small jobs with between 100 and 200 images. I shoot RAW 100% of the time (Canon 10D & 20D). I transfer the images from the CF cards to my computer with a card reader and then use Bridge to open them up. I rename them in Bridge and delete any obvious dogs. The rest (say 140+ images) I open in Camera RAW. I do all of the exposure, white balance, saturation and the like in Camera RAW. The only thing that I like to do in Photoshop proper is to sharpen the images with Smart Sharpen and then save the crw/cr2 files as either psd files, jpegs or both. I'll write an Action to accomplish that.
I take the 140 RAW files and I open them ALL AT ONCE in Photoshop. Once they're open I can use the Automate feature and run the Action on all of the open files. But to open this many files takes about an hour to an hour and a half! My computer I should mention is a 64 bit AMD with 2 gig of memeory so it's no dog.
Can I run the action on the files in a folder WITHOUT OPENING THEM?
Is it possible to record certain actions on a raw file without opening the file in Photoshop?  Let's assume I have 250 files, all needing lens correction (and maybe other common tweaks) as a basic first step. I'd like to be able to record an action that
(1) opens my NEF file in ACR; (2) makes the lens correction based on the profile for the particular lens I used; (3) [other tweak--say noise reduction]; (4) [other tweak--say color temperature]; and then (5) closes the file generating nothing but the .xmp file. Â Then when I go to work on each file, all my basic corrections have been made so that when I reopen later in ACR, I only have to make custom changes before finally opening in Photoshop.I've tried a few things, scanned the forums, checked the online help center, gone through a few Adobe TV tutorials, but I can't figure out how to do it.
like the headline says, I'm looking for a way to change the direction to which the windows in photoshop pop up. To make this clearer, I have illustrated what I want to do
Is there an option in the preferences (if so i can not find it)? Or any other way to do this?
I made an action that opens, resizes, saves and closes files. I loaded it into "file>automate>batch" and designated both source and destination folders(which are different). For some reason the batch processed files are not saving to the designated destination folder specified in the batch gui.
My computer crashed and I had to recover my HD professionally a few months ago. I bought a new HD, reinstalled all my apps and copied my files over to the new drive.
I cannot seem to find the file that had all of my actions from the old harddrive. What file would I be looking for? I search for all .atn files on the recoved hd and copied them over but my old actions are no where to be found.
Question about saving images through an action. According to the 7.0 help manual, I should leave the filename as the default if I want my files to be saved with consecutive names (i.e. image01,image02, etc).
I created an action to do a number of things before saving my file.. everything works great except that photoshop keeps saving my file as 'untitled-1.jpg,' which overwrites the previous file of the same name. What can i do? Feel free to IM as well.
I downloaded a couple of actions from the web to my actions palette and they worked fine, but then I got greedy and downloaded a few more and that’s when things went south. Now none of the actions work - by not working I mean when I mouse over the Play Selection icon at the bottom of the action palette I get that little circle with a line through it. This happens with the PS default actions as well (I also get the circle on the Stop Playing/Recording and Begin Recording icons).
Somewhere in the following is probably what messed things up.
I downloaded actions to my computer in zip files. Copied them over to the actions folder (or somewhere) and unzipped them. I went back to the actions palette and hit “load actions” and loaded them. On the second set of actions that I downloaded I remember thinking “why am I copying and pasting these files - I bet I should cut and paste them, so I did and that may have been the start of the great crumble of 2004. PhotoShop help says: (under Saving and loading actions) “Actions are automatically saved the the Actions Palette folder in PS7.0 Settings folder. If this file is lost or removed, the actions you created are lost”.
I have searched for the settings folder and couldn’t find it, but the actions still show up on the actions palette - they just don’t run.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details on the above steps. In fact, I probably did something different on each download.
one more thing, I reloaded PhotoShop, but still nothing.
My main user folder on the iMac is set to be shared (read/write, including all enclosed files) with my MacBook Pro. The job is a series of one-page InDesign files (they are newspaper advertisements). The IDD files contain a series of Illustrator files with linked PSD files. The idea is that we can both work on the .idd and .ai files in the same folder at the same time. Â It's all working fine EXCEPT that whenever an .ai file is opened on the MacBook, Illustrator doesn't know where the linked PSD files are. We can update the link, but when the .ai file is then opened on the iMac and saved, the same thing happens the next time it is opened on the Macbook. Â I don't want to embed the PSD files into the .ai files as sometimes I have to modify them and they can be linked to up to 20 .ai files. Â G5 iMac OSX 10.7.5 / Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.2 / networked via FireWire cable / file sharing on, laptop user has Administrator status, all files are read/write, permissions include all enclosed files / CS6
My computer crashed and I removed all apps and reinstalled so now none of my actions appear. However I do have a backup file of all of them and want to reinstall but before when I was using cs6 ( Im assuming same thing as CC as it was all on the subscription plan ) I would click actions then the right arrows and it would bring me a big screen of all the actions ( even the ones that were just preloaded in ps ) and it was a big box with all the actions and some options to record etc...Now that box isn't there and it's just a single column drop down menu.

I have over 400 AI files to process and I need to change the artboard size to the following specifications exactly on all files:  X: 108 px Y: -108 px W: 216 px H: 216 px  Any script for this? I did some digging and came up empty.
I recently purchased CS6 and loaded it to my desktop PC running Windows 7 and everyhing is fine. Â I recently purchased a new laptop and loaded a second copy to it (running Windows 8). When I process a RAW file and try to open it in PS6 about every 4th file does not appear in the PS6 workspace. The file details show in the top left corner, the background layer appear, I supposedly can save this file but I cannot see anything. When I close PS6 and re-open it and re-open the ACR file, then open to PS6 if works fine.
I have Photshop CS6 Extended but when I click on the .cr2 which is the RAW file I keep getting an error message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
I have tried installing the camera raw plugin Photoshop Camera Raw 7.1
I am running CS4. I have downloaded all recent upgrades. I have upgraded my camera body from a Nikon D90 to a D7000. Photoshop will not open the D7000 RAW NEF files. Jpeg files are fine.
Yesterday, before closing down, I uninstalled P/S 7, CS2 and CS3 to gain space, but do not know whether that action is relevant to my problem. Today I find that JPEGs will not open in Photoshop, and in Bridge only by going through Camera Raw. Photoshop will open tiffs, while Bridge will open some, but not all tiffs, through Camera Raw only. This problem follows many months of trouble-free operation of CS6.
My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate. I have downloaded the latest patches for CS6, and have set the Bridge Preferences item on File Associations to Default.
I am using win 7 and CS5. I have both JPG and RAW files; however all of a sudden when I attempt to open some JPG files, they somehow are vertically truncated only opening halfh the picture.Â
This problem just started recently on my PhotoShop 7.
I try to open an EPS file that was created in Illustrator or Freehand (or any other EPS that is not a Photoshop EPS), it opens up as a blank document, like a transparent layer (you just see the gray and white checkerboard background). This happens whether I try to open the file by FILE>OPEN or if I drag the EPS file over the PS7 icon.
I tried everything and looked everywhere but without success.
I have two different psd files I cannot open. I last worked on these files May 30th. For each of them I completed a detailed mask, added a path and saved the files without changing the name. Today I went to work on my project and could not open either file.
When opening the 1st file I got this error message: Could not complete your request becaus the file is not compatible with this version of Photoship. When opening the 2nd file I got this error message: Could not complete your request because it is a not a valid Photoshop document.
I just bought a 50D and did a wedding. I have a new photoshop CS4. I just downloaded the most recent update. None of my RAW images will open in photoshop. They open in the Canon software that came with my camera, but won't open in Photoshop.
I have a question about opening a .dds file to make skin for a car in RACE 07.
I have already installed the NVIDIA DDS plug-in and it used to work on PS CS2. Now I tried it on CS3 and at first it said that it was an unknown file format or something (don't remember the exact error). So I first re-installed the plugin. When that didn't work, I copied the dds.8BI file from the Plug-Ins folder in the CS2 folder to the Plug-Ins folder in the CS3 folder on my external HDD. Then I had the same error on both photoshops: "Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file."
I originally installed the software on my second drive which is intalled in my computer casing. This is due to limited space I have on my "C" drive, this is where the file "MyPictures" are also found.
Through Bridge, I can go through the "mypictures" file without a problem, however, if I am in photoshop the minute I go through the "open" fil commande the window opens I see the files but the computer freezes and I have to shut down the program.
I have received many suggestions to which none have resolved the problem. I have moved stuff around and I am now able to fit on the "C" drive the program (Photoshop) and "MyPictures" onto it. It did not solve the program either.
I installed both the Photoshop CS 5.1 for 64 and 32 bit...I opent the 64 bit Photoshop to edit a jpg file, but when I import it or drag and drop it into the Photoshop interface, Photoshop dies , and stops working and shuts down every time I do this.
I just upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and a new Hard Drive. I was able with XP to open my RAW files, but not now. I am using a Nikon D5100, I have Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3.2. I did download the DNG Converter 7.4 and installed it, but still unable to view the files.Â
