When I Save a workspace, I untick Include Open Images. I have always done this. When I save a workspace in X5, the 'Include Open Images' is always ticked. I un-tick it and save the workspace. X5 then asks me if I want to save changes to the open images in the workspace. Why? I click on No, repeated for all the images that are open at this time.
I then click on Save a Workspace again and yes, the Include Open Images is ticked again. In previous versions of PSP this remained unticked until the user ticked it again.
Just updated from X3 to X4. Spent an hour looking for the workspace color so I could get rid of the huge graphite box. Updated to SP1, found this forum, saw how to change the color in the files menu, and was very disappointed that the menu backgrounds changed, but not the BIG GRAPHITE BOX IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN!!
X3 gave us control of the colors. X4 is a big disappointment.what about the big graphite elephant in the room, the workspace?
I have a custom workspace I like quite a bit. In X4 I save it to Users/Owner/My Documents/Corel Paint Shop Pro/14.0/Work spaces..... I believe that is the default folder. I had some trouble with X4 and reloaded it and lost my workspace, so I recreated it. So now when I look in there I see 2 workspaces, cleverly labeled workspace1 and workspace2 and described in the type as Corel PSP Workspace File. Well, no big problem with X4, but I opened it and had the default workspace.
When I go to load a workspace, it doesn't see the ones I have saved. I hit load and no workspaces show up (although I have checked in my preferences under workspace and the correct folder is listed.) If I hit load and then try browsing to it and again no work spaces show up. I have tried to save the current workspace under the clever title "test" and it goes into the same folder. Even stranger, when I go to load work spaces, the "test" workspace shows up. I created both workspace 1 and 2 in X4, not X3...... so what's up.... how come I can't load a workspace?
In the X3 version there was a menue setting for the color of the work space where you could change it and not have to use the Graphite color. In the X4 version there is nowhere to select non default color. There should be as not everyone wants to be forced into having it the default"graphite or whatever"color.
In PSPP X3 I could easily get rid of the graphite interface (it hurts my eyes). I've downloaded the trial and really liked the speed, but cannot find anything in knowledge base, user guide, search from these boards or on internet to explain where it is if there is such a thing. I could not purchase it if it's not possible.
Every time I resize an image, the image in the workspace shows at a certain percent and I have to scroll to zoom in to view it at the normal size. The percent varies from image to image.
Is this the only place now? I thought it was available in Edit mode. What about all the people (and there are a lot of us) who only use Edit mode? Surely it was available in before the last service pack? Who has not installed SP2 know? We have this in all previous versions of PSP that I have used.
I have a workspace saved as Default.PSPWorkspace. Every time I start PSPX4 I have to select File > WorkSpace > Default.PSPWorkspace so that all the settings for Palettes and Toolbars are as I need them.
Is there any way to set a saved workspace to actually serve as the default without having to select it every time PSPX4 starts?
I got a message to install service pack 1 this morning. Since then every time I load PSP the workspace is the default workspace and all of the tools I had added to the toolbars are missing. If I load my custom workspace from the load menu, it makes no difference, it just refreshes the screen and nothing changes. Also every time I load the program it displays the Learning Center and Organizer tabs, even though I keep disabling them.
I tried resetting everything back to the defaults but it doesn't work. Should I do a new re-install or is there something I'm missing?
I can open PSP X4 and edit and process images as desired. My workspace opens to Edit, as I've located that menu selection. I do not have any saved workspace configurations/files. Based on what I've read in the few hundred messages so far, I'd like to avoid a full reset of the program defaults, but if that's the only option, so it goes.
What is happening is that in as-yet undetermined situations, I get an automatic load of an old image. I've been able to recognize that the image that happens to load is the first one in the tray on the Manage tab. I don't use the Manage tab at all and only ventured over there as part of the preliminary diagnostic process to posting this message. Once I discovered that, I renamed the image in the tray and the sequence repeated with the next image in the tray, which repositioned itself to the first location.
I can "force" an auto-load in the edit window simply by starting with an empty edit window, clicking on the Manage tab and then back to the edit window. The first image in the tray magically appears. This magic also happens when I've closed another image that's been loaded. Of course, now that I'm posting this, I can't make it happen other than in the manner described above.
I'd like to have it so when I close the image in the edit window that I'm left with a blank edit window on a consistent basis. If I can determine how the image auto-loads in a manner different than described above, I'll add it here.
A client sent me four images taken with his Canon camera - they are in Canon Raw (.CR2) file format. I can't get them to open and then save them as a .jpg or a .pspimage format in either PSP9 or in X3. In X3, when I click on the pic, it brings up the "Canon RAW Lab" dialogue box, showing a black and white image but with a deep pinkish cast to it. And there is no options to save it. What do I do from here?
I select "save as" pick a place, and the program appears to save the file, with the progress bar at the bottom - but it doesn't! It doesn't save a file, not always. If i then select save as again, it save the file.
I haven't really used PSP for doing custom graphics, mostly for working on photos; but before that I was using Adobe Photoshop and I liked (and still do) how it made saving easier than PSP does. Unfortunately Photoshop is horribly expensive so this is a better option.
I can't figure out for the life of me how to save .psd or .eps with the layers? It keeps telling me that due to how I am saving or the file format the alpha layers will be lost and so on.
When I open an image from my NAS, edit the image, and then attempt to save it as the default jpg type I get the following error message: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
This error doesnt happen with any other image filetype. It doesnt happen with local hard drives. It doesnt happen with unedited images. It just appears to happen with edited images, the default jpg filetype, and my NAS.
When I actually type in ".jpg" at the end of the filename it works.
Its an annoyance i would like solved because I do this a lot.
Paint shop pro 4. Patches up to date. I am unable to save files my files as .jpgs. I can save them as .psp files however. I was able to save them last week, so something has changed in my settings, but where to look. 10 years using PSP and I have to say...dislike all versions after PSP XI.
I use PSP x3 and I have a 3mb photo. When I edit and crop the photo, I then "save as". When I go back and ck the photo properties of the photo I saved after editing it has saved it at only 131kb. When I tried to get a large print developed, I was told the resolution was too low and the picture was pixelated. How do I save the edited photo and keep it at 3mb?
It's been a few days now that when I try to save a picture (either with "save", "Save as", or "save copy"), I get the following message popping up:
"because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you've selected), the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would you like to continue?"
I have hit ok to that and the software would save the picture, but when I checked the size of each picture I noticed a dramatic drop in size (from 6.5MB to roughly 1.3MB). Just for the record, the editing I did to these pictures was minimal, just a little rotation and a removal of maybe 2mm from each size.
First of all, is it normal to get this message?
And then, is such a drop in size normal?
it's pictures in JPEG taken from the camera and saved as JPEG.
I have an image, whose outline is well defined, which I am preparing for laser cutting/engraving. I am trying to find a quick and easy way of creating a cutting path around the edges of the image. Tracing in Corel Draw is not good enough. PhotoPaint will convert the mask to a path but it is not well defined. I can easily create an accurate mask with Paint Shop Pro, and even fill it with black colour, but that is as far as I can get. I have tried pasting as a new image but there is an undeleteable and unmoveable layer created which stops the image being visible. Instead of crisp black image I just get a blank white square.
I don't understand two things about the workspace tabs:
First, if I right click on a file in a file list like Windows Explorer and select "Open in PSPX4", the file opens in the X4 Edit workspace but disappears if I then click on the Adjust tab. Click back on the Edit tab and it is still gone. But if I click on a file in the X4 Organizer the image appears in all three workspaces, Manage, Adjust, and Edit. In X3 I could toggle back and forth between Express Lab and Full editor and the image would appear in both, no matter if it was opened through Explorer or from Organizer. Apparently X4 only want users to open files from its own organizer?
Second, I don't understand why after making edits to an image in one workspace, like Adjust, I cannot then switch to the Edit tab and make further edits without having to first save the changes made in Adjust. If I happen to go back and forth a few times making edits in two work spaces and am forced to save the file each time, don't these multiple file saves degrade JPEG files due to compounded compression? If so I would rather save only once at the end of all edits. Or am I not understanding the meaning of "save" in this context (a likely possibility). And part B, after making an edit and clicking on a different tab, why am I prompted to save when I have Auto save enabled?
PSP taking eons to save a file. It goes into (Not Responding) mode. It is using about 10 to 15% CPU for a good 4 to 6 minutes before it all comes alive again likje nothing happened. THis is with small 50K pics and larger 600dpi images. All held locally. No disk whirring so it all seems to be a memory thing ! Vista Ultimate. Old machine but PSP has been running fine on this box for a while now (aside from startup times being slow). I've been editing larger files regularly with no issues before.
In earlier versions I was given the option of enabling the Auto Save feature, and choosing the time intervals between saves. I chose every 2 minutes. If it crashed or was shut down in a reboot, the images on which I was working were recovered with their layers intact. Nothing was lost. I do not have that option in Version X4.
When I try to save a small jpg file I get the following:
"Because of the limitations of the specified file (and possibly the save options you've selected) the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would you like to continue?"
I am running into an issue trying to complete processing of some images. I have converted a Canon CR2 raw file to TIFF, then opened into PSP X4. Now I wish to save as a JPG file. I've flattened & converted to 8-bit RGB. When I go to save it pops up an error stating: "An error has occurred while trying to write to the file". I can save the TIFFs, I can save to PNG, PSP, BMP, and presumably everything else. All except JPG--which is of course what is required. I can create an image from scratch and save to JPG. I've tried simply copying the image and pasting to a new image, then saving with the same error. Same with opening the PSP image back up & trying to save as JPG. I am updated to the latest patch just released.
I have a .psp image file that the information shows the resolution as 300dpi. When I try to save it as a .png file, the resolution changes to 118dpi. It doesn't matter if I just do a Save As or File > Save for Office > Professional Printing with 300dpi, the outcome is the same.
It seems I can either save work at a lower quality jpeg, or export to get higher quality and lose the EXIF. I never want to use the lower quality, never, but I cannot seem to find anything in the Preferences to avoid having to manually set the quality. Is there a way to save at a higher quality than currently provided by PSP X4 by default?
How do I get X4 to open with the same folder tree view I closed with? Like the first picture below. It always opens like the second photo, forcing me to drill down on the folder where I store most of my photos.
I already have "keep last view" checked in preferences. This was discussed in the link below for X3, but doesn't work with X4. [URL] .....
I am using Paintshop Pro X2. I've created a script that goes something like this.
1. Save original size as jpg in folder 1. 2. Resize 50% 3. Save as jpg in folder 2. 4. Resize 100x77 5. Save as jpg in folder 3. 6. Close file.
Everything works great except for one thing. During the save as operations the script remembers the original file names from when I record the script. Is it possible to replace that old static file name in the script with the file name of the current image?
