Paint Shop Pro :: Resizing Images Via Batch Process?
Oct 2, 2011I frequently use a script to resize .jpgs from 3600x3600 to 1000x1000 dpi to save space on my hard drive. After resizing 300+ .jpgs last night, I found that they all retained their original file size. An image that started out as 3600x3600 dpi with a file size such as 3.5mb that was resized to 1000x1000 dpi using the script in X4 still had a file size of 3.5mb when it should have been considerably smaller than 1mb. I relaunched the application and rebooted my computer but no change. To fix the problem I had to run the .jpgs thru the batch process again using the same script but in X3.
The script I was using was created in X3 so I tried creating an identical script in X4. Regardless of which script I used in the X4 batch process, the same thing happened.
This problem seems to be unique to the script and/or batch process. I can open a .jpg file in X4, resize it from 3600x3600 to 1000x1000 dpi, save the changes, and the file size changes accordingly.
Paint Shop Pro :: Can No Longer Edit JPG Images
Mar 25, 2013I'm now getting this error: "Unable to open the file. Please verify that the file is valid.", when attempting to edit a jpg.
(no problem with png's though).
Any new jpgs I create outside PSP display like this in the manager (but a new png displays OK):
Existing jpg thumbnails display OK (I expect the thumbnail images are cached somewhere), but if I try to edit any jpg, I get this:
I've checked for PSP X5 updates, and I'm on the latest version:
Note: I can view the images successfully with Windows photo viewer and I can edit them using Windows Paint, it's just PSP that's having issues.
EDIT: I'd restarted my PC to ensure I was still having the issue, and I still couldn't edit any jpgs. While I've been writing this post and taking screenshots with the snipping tool, suddenly the jpg thumbnails displayed correctly and now I can edit jpgs again... BUT...

Sep 13, 2011in X4...seems they keep making the Organizer worse and worse (why I still use X). When I drag an image from the organizer to Edit and then want to edit another image, it closes the first image and I don't want it closed. How do you have multiple images open in Edit from the Organizer?

Feb 5, 2013I purchased PSP 5 and uninstalled PSP 4. After installation, I am unable to see any image previews in manage, adjust or edit mode. I have installed the service pack updates with no change in this absent function. Neither the main window nor the organizer palette will display any jpg image previews. I CAN go manually to a specific file and open the image and edit it at will, but I cannot see any previews of any images in the main or organizer palette. how to get the program to display image previews. I never had this problem before in any of the previous PSP versions. I have also uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled the program to no avail.

Jan 25, 2013I need to convert from bitmap images to PNGs with the command line. I've tried looking into script-fu, but lisp is one of those languages I could never figure out.
I've tried using imagemagick, but it did not properly convert the images. The images are apparently 32bit Windows Bitmap V3 files with an alpha channel; according to a page I found on google, imagemagick will not preserve the alpha channel in this particular case. I don't know for certain if that's the actual reason why imagemagick isn't working, but it definitely isn't working. It does, however, work if done manually in gimp.
This is going to be part of a python script, so I need it to convert a specific bitmap file rather than all the ones in a directory.

that is a simple conversion of 20 or more images from TIF to CPT. i get the message
"Images failed to load. Some formats are not supported for batch processing". I have never encountered this problem before.
Paint Shop Pro :: X4 And Canon 40D Raw Conversion
Mar 27, 2012I shoot with the Canon 40D. The Raw processor in PSPX4 is showing an anomaly when converting my 40D files raw files. When I initially load raw images, and when the image is displayed, it is shown at one setting. Then in 3 seconds, its updated again showing a 1 stop darker, desaturated and less sharper image. Each time I click on another image on the bottom column, same thing. The new image is displayed, then 3 seconds later the same thing happens. There is a noticable difference when I view the same photo in Canon DPP. The PSPX4 Raw File just looks terrible. This does not happen when I edit a JPEG that has already been converted.
How do I stop PSP4X Raw from doing the second update?

Sep 9, 2013I think it would be useful to start a new discussion thread as to what we feel about X6 Camera RAW Lab and (hopefully) it's replacement in the next PSP Version - X7.
Personally I need to say that I abandoned trying to use Camera RAW Lab and instead use Corel's AfterShot Pro ASP (or else Canon's Digital Photo Professional DPP). My stance is that Corel should aim to reproduce as much as possible of ASP within PSP. Fundamentally this means a new RAW Conversion mechanism for PSP.
In the meantime, I do RAW Conversion in ASP or DPP and then use the External Editor facility (Ctrl+E in ASP or Ctrl+B in DPP) to pass the image as a TIFF file that is automatically loaded into PSP.
From the RAW Conversion in ASP, I believe that we would want the following features in PSP:- Exposure Adjustment. This is essential and is something Howard Dickson has pointed out, together with Shadows & Highlights sliders. Highlight Recovery and Blacks. This is important to adjust for over/under-exposure and has to be done in RAW. RAW Noise adjustment including features comparable to Noise Ninja or whatever Corel plan to use.
At this stage, it is possible to use all the normal PSP Editing facilities on the resultant image.

Nov 2, 2011I am finding that if I select a range of files to rename that already have numbers at the end, say 1 - 12, it is changing the order of the files and seeing the files numbered 10 - 12 before the file numbered 2. I am pretty sure it didn't work this way in X3.
I don't have X3 installed any longer.

Dec 12, 2013I'm in the process of creating an mpg of a load of photos and movies taken on my camera. I want to have a small transparent border around the slides so they fit in the "safe area" of the TV and I can show a moving image behind the slides (especially the portrait ones).
I know that I can resize the photos and then resize the canvas to give me my border and I can then do "Save As" PNG to get the border transparent.
I have a few hundred photos so what I want to know is, is it possible to utilize PSPs built in "Batch Process" on the files and make use of the "Use Script" option.
I have recorded a script which does all the resizing and saving but when I look at the script it has the name of the file hard coded in it.
What I want to do is use the "Batch Process" to select all the files, run the script on them and then save them into a different folder (something I've done many time for other projects just not with the transparent bit).

Aug 10, 2011My Canon 7D typically produces a JPG file in the 5B to 12MB range if set to the largest JPG quality. My problem is that if I open for example a 7MB file in Photo Pro X3 and save it again (even if I make no changes) the resulting file is about 2MB. Obviously some compression is happening which I want to avoid/control. Is it possible to set the default compression that X3 uses?
If I use file - export - JPG optimizer I can control things but if I for example want to do a batch process on lots of files. I have used Paint shop Pro since version 5 and love it but I might have to change to another editor if I cannot solve this one.

I spent some time looking at the corel files and they says something about "FileSaveAs" won't work if it not in the "Scripts-Trusted" folder. However I cannot find it (FileSaveAs) so I can move it over to the Trusted Folder. I CAN find the scripts-trusted folder.

Apr 12, 2012I created a folder on my flash drive. I'm trying to use Batch Process to copy the files to the drive. I'm not adding a script. The name of the new folder comes up in the dialogue box, but when I click on the start button I get a notice that the file already exits and do I want to overwrite it. I click on yes. All the photos are then copied, but when I go to the new folder in my flash drive it's empty.
I'm following the instructions in Diane Koers book on PSP X4.
Also, I can't seem to use Batch Process to save my JPEGs and TIFFs. Is it possible to do this.

I have searched these forums but didn't find any threads related to my inquiry.When I create a script to compress to 96dpi there are weird color/light artifacts in the resulting pics. When I do the "save for office" function the pics get even smaller with no artifacts.
1. what settings does the "save for office" compressor use so that I can recreate thru other means

Wanted: I want to edit that adjustment layer's mask in the editing area, viewing the mask as a black and white image.
Current procedure:
1. Create a new raster layer.
2. Change the Foreground Material to black.
3. Select the Fill tool.
4. Fill that new raster layer with black.
5. Move that black raster layer below the adjustment layer.
6. Select the adjustment layer.
7. Open the Properties of the adjustment layer.
8. Change the overlay colour to white.
9. Change the overlay opacity to 100%.
10. Select "Highlight Mask Area" in the Layers palette.
Questions:
1. Is there an easier way to do this?
2. If not, I've recorded a script that starts with the adjustment layer selected, but the script fails when attempting to move the new raster layer below the adjustment layer.

Jul 1, 2012I had hoped to go from CS4 to Paintshop Pro 4 to process my photos. PSP4 is not working as it should. I begin the edit, get almost through and PSP freezes. My pc has plenty of RAM and storage space. CS4 has never done this. I open up to 10 RAW files at once in CS4 with no problems. I have searched Corel and the web for a clue as to what is going on. I want to leave Adobe and am currently looking for a software replacement. I have used PSP in the past. I stopped using it with the X3 release due to the error messages it gave me and went with Adobe.

Oct 22, 2011If you can re-size batch images in paint.net, I'd like to know how you usually go about doing that. Just today I downloaded from a blog a some odd 40 game screenshots, in what looked like a standard widescreen resolution. After checking the dimensions on the pictures, I found that they were all 1920x1079...... Being off by 1 pixel is bad, enough to make me go crazy, so I opted to edit them into the 1920x1080 resolution. I found a plugin that would add in a batch re-sizer and it worked. But upon closer inspection, it blurred my original image just slightly. Thats even worse than being off by 1 pixel.
So, I came across this layer saver executable.. I opened all the images in one canvas as layers, re-sized the canvas by 1 pixel, saved the lot as a PDN, then extracted all the layers as a brand new perfect image except for 1 column of pixels. Other than re-naming everything in ordered numbers, it works perfectly. But still, I have to know, is there anything just as good that can be within paint.net?
