I'm not a graphic artist, but I do have a task I would like to accomplish, so a couple of quick questions?
It's been over 10 years since I experimented with graphics software of any kind other than resize and/or convert from one format to another.
Scenario to illustrate my question:
I create a new graphic, of X by Y proportions. Create a black circle in the center of the graphic. Save graphic.
When I import the graphic into a document, web page, email composition window, etc., I would like only the black circle to display when the background is a color other than white. IOW, I want the unused/blank part of the graphic to be transparent.
I've found the online manual to be confusing to follow, since I can't easily "thumb" through the pages to see a picture of the effect I want to accomplish, and I'm not sure of the correct terminology.
I found a PDF manual for 2.4, are there instructions that cover this? I'm not really interested in printing it, or having it printed. If the manual were for 2.6, I would consider having it printed.

May 10, 2012In pre X4 releases, I could glance in the lower right of the program, hover my mouse over an image and it will tell me it's properites (color depth, size, etc...).
How can I turn this feature back on in X4?

Paint.NET :: How To Fill Text With Image But Keep Anti-aliasing On Edges Of Image
Sep 18, 2013Here is what I want to do. I have the letters 'XC' which I've played with a bit to look the way I want and due to anti-aliasing has nice edges. Now I want to basically fill those letters with an image. I can't figure out how to do this and keep the nice anti-aliased edges.
Current steps:
1. load image as base layer
2. Create new layer with text in it
3. using magic wand select a threshold that has smoothest edges on text layer
4. select image layer and copy the selection area... notice the hard edges of the finished result in the attached example. I want it nice and smooth and anti-aliased.
How to do this more elegantly? I've attached the basics of what I'm doing and the result.

Oct 17, 2013I have a picture of a gravestone on the wall of a church. Because of access I had to take the picture from below so that the resulting image is a regular trapezoid, being longer at the base than at the top.
How can I make the image into a rectangle? Effectively I need to expand the width of the image at the top whilst keeping that at the bottom the same, with everything between being expanded in the right ratio. I am not worried if the images of the brickwork around the stone are distorted - I can remove them.

I followed exactly as described on page2-page5.everything goes exactly like mentioned ,except for last page(5) instruction ,which says " When the positioning of the selection looks correct, go to Edit > Erase Selection to delete the base of the gradient. You should now see that you have created a glossy text effect similar to that that you can see on the first page of this tutorial.

Apr 13, 2011If I increase exposure or ISO, I either get blury image due to long exposure or noisy sensitive photo from high ISO. And the flash just looks ugly. May 23, 2011I have a picture of text (non-latin characters) that is multicolored. Most of the text is black but certain words/letters are purple, red, blue, etc. and I want to get rid of them. The black and white tool works but the previously colored text is now a shade of gray instead of being pure black. I also played with the contrast and brightness but it the text bleeds and becomes unreadable. The background is also pure white.
