Paint Shop Pro :: Cropping Tools - Blank Icons On Floating Tool Bar
Jun 14, 2012For some reason when I use the cropping tool the floating tool bar has blank icons on it. Sometimes there may be lines in them like they tried to load but most of the time they are just completely white.
They still work and everything but you have to run your mouse over them and wait for the box to pop-up thats says what it is to see which one you need.
Paint Shop Pro :: X6 Crashes With BEX - Not Usable Anymore
Sep 24, 2013After almost perfectly working about 1 month long, PSP X6 now crashes in both versions, 32 and 64 bit, right after start. It displays the manager with the pictures from the folder used last time, then the HD is turning some 5-8 seconds more, and then comes the crash.
System: Win 7 64-bit SP1 german
Problem Event: BEX
Module: MSVCR90.DLL
Version: 9.0.30729.6161
It did work until a week ago, when I last time used it before today, since then the only software installed were updates for Adobe Reader and Flash, and the usual Windows defender signatures update, nothing else was changed on the system.
Reinstalling Visual C++ 2008 SP1 32-/64-bit (above DLL seems to be part of it) didn't work, uninstalling and re-installing PSP X6 neither, nor playing around with the DEP settings, as advised by some MS MVPs on the net. PSP X4, still on my machine, does work.

Aug 5, 2012I am having difficulty with the new cropping tool in CS6... It is said to be a huge leap forward, however, I am finding it to be a big step backward.
The Issue?
In all of my previous versions of Photoshop I have been able to go to the crop tool, set the size that I wanted the photo to be after cropping and that would be the size I get. This is something that I can no longer do in CS6... Or if I can it is not as simple. As a professional Photographer that takes anywhere from 500 to 900 photos per sporting event that I do, I need to be able to quickly go in and crop my photos to the size I want them to be and away I go.
How to continue this feature in the new Photoshop I will glad take it... but as of right now, I do not have the time to sit there and fiddle with the crop tool until the images is the size that I need it to be.
Is it too much to ask to be able to say I want a Photo cropped to 8x12 and actually get that?! For right now I will be going back to using my CS5 Photoshop so I can actually get my photos done.

Oct 11, 2012Ok, I understand that the kids at Adobe would like to change things around in "upgrade versions" of Photoshop. However for working photographers and professionals that crop A LOT of images in the course of their work, the new cropping tool is a DISASTER! A few may like the new tool... however, there are many that don't.

To the point, here's how to fix the problem. Adobe, you have the CS5 PS cropping tool code... please put that code EXACTLY as it is in CS5 into the "Classic" option for CS6 PS. This way, those who WORK with Photoshop and PAY to use the software can get their work done using the excellent crop tool as was in CS5 (which I have downgraded to so I can get work done) and those who are giddy about the new crop tool can play to their hearts content.
Adobe, you are upsetting a lot of paying clients with your new crop tool and the "faux" classic tool option. You might want to address this issue soon!

Feb 13, 2013Is it possible to get the same cropping tool in ACR, which already exists in LR4 and PS CS6?
When Photoshop CS6 was released the crop tool within Photoshop itself was updated with a new interface, similar to that in Lightroom. Why did Adobe not also update the crop tool in ACR, Adobe Camera Raw? As it is an essential part of Photoshop CS6?
Basically, why does ACR 7 still have the old crop tool interface, while the Lightroom and Photoshop products both are having the new crop tool interface?

Sep 10, 2013The cropping tool no longer works simply and efficiently. Instead of just drawing a rectangle around what I want to keep, it sort of floats vertically for a distance, then stops. There is also a grid of six squares, which I don't need.

May 31, 2012I have installed CS PS 6 on my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. When I go to ACR through Bridge and try to crop an image by clicking on the crop tool icon, the drop down menu for the cropping tool is VERY sporadic. It will sometimes show me the different cropping ratios, but most of the time, there is no drop down menu, or it is VERY SLOW to respond. It does this with my mouse and also with my Wacom Intuos 4. All other features seem to be working normally.
I have found that if I press "C" for crop and right-click on an image, the drop-down menu does appear, but this has never happend to me on any other PS.

Aug 23, 2012With the new features added to the Crop tool I've noticed when you clip and image the remaining pixels "hidden" by the crop still are affected by layer effects. I've cropped an image, clipped it, removed the background and when I apply a drop shadow to the remaining pixels, the edge of my photo has a shadow. Other than clipping first, then cropping away, Is the best solution to set the crop tool to delete cropped pixels?

May 6, 2012In Photoshop CS6, the moment you select the Crop Tool, a "cropping bounding box" appears instantly over the image. This didn't happen in CS5. In CS5 I would be able to click and start dragging the Crop Tool 'outside' the image and then drag into it so that my "cropping bounding box" (don't know what to call it) would snap to the edges of the image.
In CS6, since this box is automatically there already over the entire image, clicking outside the image invokes some unwanted rotation action.

Oct 12, 2011I recently upgraded from X3 to X4 and just noticed a Cropping and Re-sizing issue with X4. When I crop or re-size an image and then save it as a JPG, the size of the image prior to saving and the size displayed after saving and reopening are different. When I open the PRINT LAYOUT screen for the JPG, it confirms that the image was NOT re sized or cropped. It almost appears like there is an issue with the way X4 saves a JPG. When I perform the exact same cropping or re-sizing but save the image as a TIF, the problem does not happen. I also duplicated the cropping and re-sizing under X3, saved the image as a JPG and the problem did NOT happen.
By the way, when I worked with tech support, they could not duplicate the problem on their system but when they remotely accessed my computer, they saw the problem. The only difference seems to be that I have a PC with a 3.33 gigahertz Intel Core i7 X 980 processor.

(What I don't like about paint.net is the missing "show grid" option available in any zoomed size, but anyway back to my problem).
I'm making a product flyer (8.5 X11) for our store and we will pass them around the towns in my area. I will take pictures of the products with my camera and up load them into paint.net. The picture will need to be downsized to approx 1 X 2in, so dithering will be needed to get the same quality has the original. Now downsized, I will need get rid of the photo session backdrop, then create a new canvas of the flyer and paste them in without the background.
How to crop free hand? That is zoom in the picture and using the pencil option define the boarder of the wanted image, then define outside of it has transparent? Or any other method tom achieve the same results.

I notice that cropping an image and resizing it to fit 15cm x 10cm photo paper results in significant loss of definition. Should it make any difference saving to .png, for example, or is the damage already done because the camera creates a .jpg file instead of a lossless compression file?

Jan 28, 2013I thought that I would take a shot at a possible reason why cropping with the paper size dialog would give different results which appear to be random.
1. The dialog opens with the programmer assuming the user will make the paper size larger than the image. He takes the difference between the paper size’s lower right corner and the image’s lower right corner and subtracts the two. That’s a positive number since the paper size is larger than the image. It’s added to all pixel positions in the image which brings the image to the lower right corner of the paper.
2. Now consider what will happen if the paper size is smaller than the image.
Scenario 1: The user picks paper size before position. The difference between the lower right corners is now a negative number. Using negative numbers to reorder the image pixels will incorrectly display the upper right corner of the image in the canvas.
Scenario 2. The user picks position before paper size. The lower right corners of the image and paper are set equal. Reducing the paper size now leaves the lower right corner of the image to be displayed.
Thus the display of the corner of the image appears to be random. However, it’s following the orders given by the user. Without doubt, there are other possible scenarios for this behavior.

Mar 21, 2014I can be online with a browser (Lenovo Thinkpad, lots of RAM, HD space) and have quick online response browsing to any Inet site. My six students with PCs and Macs using LR 5.3 in the Map module all get online by WiFi (Guest in the school building) in the same room. We're all on that same Guest network. At my home office with that computer, the Map module works perfectly on my WiFi LAN.
But in class, my laptop won't show the map that they are seeing. My map screen in the Map module is just black, and LR reports that the Map module is offline. The rest of the screen in that module looks normal. I test for computer being online at the moment = yes, and with wideband response. The connection is very good and responsive. The screen used to show the gray world map when it was offline, and recently the screen map area is just black. I disconnected the projector VGA cable, no change.
This happens consistently, every week - in the Map module they see the map, I have a black screen. Hard to teach when you can't illustrate.
What is going on in just that computer with identical software to students' and just when on that network when everything else works fine on my computer and theirs on that network.
It doesn't look like a hardware failure. There has to be a setting --- ? --- but there's nothing in the Prefs or Cat settings.

Jun 5, 2013Not that it matters, I don't think, but I have been unable to burn an ISO file onto a usable DVD. In the Sharing module of VS Pro X6, after opting to burn a DVD, I select both "Create Folders" and "Create Disc Image." Both are created where I send them and I have no trouble creating usable DVDs by burning the folders onto a blank DVD after telling the Cyberlink burning software that I'm creating a video DVD. But I can't figure out a way to burn the ISO file disc image onto a DVD except as a data DVD, which, unsurprisingly, does not create a usable video DVD. (Cyberlink, at least, will not recognize the ISO file or the folder that it's in to burn a video DVD.) Is there a way within X6 to burn video DVDs from the saved ISO disc image (or from the saved folders for that matter) without re-rendering the video clips? (Also, while I'm asking, I take it that there is no difference between a DVD created from folders and the same content created from an ISO image. If this is right, why the two options?)
