Paint.NET :: Images That Changed To Transparent Background Showing Up Black
Nov 8, 2012
I just learned how to make the background of my images transparent and am learning how to use layers. I am trying to save my pictures to picasa and photoshop so they are backed up and I can easily access them from any computer. I noticed that some of the pics are showing up all black. It's like the colors are inverted almost. I can kinda see the image in white, but mostly the whole thing is black. I noticed the same thing happened when I tried to open some of the images in paint.
I checked to see if they are all the same file type and they are not. Some are gif and some are png.
Also, some of my images won't open in windows photo gallery. They open in a blank web page. I originally go to my pictures and find them there, but when I click on them they open a page in IE instead of windows photo gallery so I can't crop them or anything.
I am trying to work on a project where I print silhouettes or simple images on vintage sheet music to use as art. I need to be able to take them to a print shop to have this done and I can't do that if the images show up black or won't open in a regular program.
I am attaching a pic that saved black like I talked about and a pic of what it is supposed to look like.

Corel SP1. I now have toolbars I can see clearly, but the black background makes it impossible to tell if an image has a thin black perimeter border. Last release I could drag the window to size it larger than the image and it was easy to see. The attachment shows the trouble and I can't find where or how to change just the background color of the work surface without changing the color of the workspace that now works best for me.

I'm probably bumbling around and buggering up the export of png formatted images, but it appears something besides transparency is getting exported as backbround.
I do `Select all' then export to png.The poorly drawn green arrows were added in photoshop to show the area I'm talking about. The xara document which is apparently also getting exported in some way.At least certain other tools see a black background in that area. Not all tools have that problem with the image. For example; photoshop sees only transparency there.
But when I browse the exported *.png files with `Epson print CD', it sees black in that area as illustrated by the screen grab below. The first two images look clean as expected (I'll explain in a moment) but the third (the one that hasn't been cleaned in Photoshop) shows the black background in that area.
The first two were cleaned up in photoshop and now appear clean as expected. So to get a usable image for import into Epson's tool I must:
1) Export as PNG from Xara
2) Open with Photoshop and run thru a procedure where anything outside the outer blue ring in the image is deleted.(Even though PS only sees transparency, if I select everything from the blue ring outward and delete it, saving back to png, then Epson's tool sees transparency there)
3) Import into `Epson Print CD' and print the graphic to a printable DVD.
How can I skip the second step? That is, how can I get a clean export in step one? What is it that some tools are seeing as black background?

I need to strip my current image of its background color so that the background color on my website goes thru my image. In other words I need a transparent background for my image.
I have create a new layer that is transparent, but the background color on my website does not go thru it. The background color of this image appears to be grayish not transparent.

I have just noticed that new PSD files (with transparent backgrounds) are displaying in Lightroom with a gray background where the transparent areas are in the image.
Has this change happened in the 4.4 update on the Mac? I can see previously imported files show a white background but when I click on it to view in Develop mode it the tranparent area of the picture changes to gray.
I would prefer this to be white (as it was), is there a way to change this in LR as I really don't want to have to open each image in PS and drop in a white layer behind it.
This was working fine before but has now changed, I hope I haven't altered something in the preferences as I can't see a way to change it. I'm not referring to the Background colour in LR prefs as that just changes the area surrounding the image, I am referring to the transparent area of my pictures.

So I was using Photoshop (CS5) when I was told that our power would have to be momentarily turned off due to work being done in our kitchen. Anyway, I saved my project and closed photoshop and then the power was turned off (I did not properly shut down Windows).
When I got back onto Photoshop I tried opening the project I was working on to find that all of the layers were gone and it only showing a black background canvas. When I click on the project once in the open window, it shows a thumbnail of the image as it should be and how it was saved, but when I open it it only shows a black background.
I do have another copy from not too far back but I have lost a few hours of work which I'd obviously prefer not to redo.

I'm having this odd problem that I can't seem to figure out. I have a web image (gif format) with a transparent background (deleted the background layer before saving as a gif), and when the image is against a darker webpage, the text of the image (that is basically all the image is, just blended text) has white pixels around the edges of the text. Did I do something wrong when I deleted the background, or how I saved the file???

I am trying to put text with a black light film in the background at the bottom of the picture and I cannot do it. I don't know how to isolate the portion of the picture I want with the text with the light black background while you can still see the picture through black background.

I have an image that is semi-transparent. I am able to take the black out of the background around it, but am unsure about how to remove the actual background from behind the image. I need to superimpose this image onto another-hence the background change. I have the newest version of PS.

all transparent png files copied from Chrome and pasted into Photoshop CS6. The background is black rather than transparent. These images are one I created and exported using "save for web". It worked fine in CS5 so it must be a bug.
I constantly have to edit images taken from our website so being able to copy an image quickly with transparency intact is very important. I'm running CS6 in Windows.

I am new to Gimp and would like to ask if there is a way to make a good worn out effect more or less like this on a black logo. The problem is that they are using a fork for it and I am a student and can't afford a fork.
The aim is to make a black print on transparent background with transparent scratched "holes". Are there any tips how to do this?

I am trying to import a photoshop image into a powerpoint presentation but it looks like a box with the image inside the box. The box is the color of the background in the image file. I would like to know what I would do to import the file so only the image in the file is seen with the background color eliminated.

I am working on an anime picture. I want to have two of the same images, one larger, with no background, and transparent. The other will be just the image. I have that done, but how do I get rid of the checkerboard pattern, it's difficult to work with it in the way. Also, both images move together, how do I stop that from happening?

Choose the magic wand click the area that you want transparent.Choose cut and it is turned transparent. This is limited by whether the central image has the same color in it. It will be changed also. You may have to click on each background area till all the background is transparent. Do one area at a time.

Paint shop pro x3 Whoa am I out of date. But maybe there is still hope before I get X6. I am trying to make a background transparent so that when I insert it onto a presentations slide, the item, a Christmas tree, has no background other than what is the background of the slide. I used the background removal process, asked for 0 opacity on the background and still when I save, or paste, it is in a rectangular white box.
I'm missing something simple, I know it. But thats been my day.
How do I essentially make it a stand alone little thing with no background?

I have been working on making this have a transparent background, (everything outside the blue ring, except where the feather goes outside the blue box). When I use the magic wand and delete the background, it has very jagged edges and a lot of pixels that don't clean up. I tried using the eraser to clean them up, but it looks awful.

I just downloaded paint.net, it looks like it will be a big upgrade from PC Paint, which I currently use. There's one important feature in PC Paint that I can't seem to locate, though: declaring the background of a selected area to be transparent. In sequence, it looks like this:
I use this function quite a bit, and I figure if it's in PC Paint, that it would certainly be in paint.net - I just can't find the spot.
