organize the pile of images and various videos that we have taken over the years. It seems like LR is optimized to organize image. But can it work with my Sony AVCHD video and mp4, mov formatted videos as well? And if so, How good is it at these tasks?

I have M2TS video files stored on my computer. When I import a file into LR4, I have no sound. I also tried importing files directly from my Sony camcorder, but still have no sound.

Lightroom aside, the way I have my photos organized are like this. Follow along with the photo!
In the My Pictures folder I have a few folders for each year. You open up a year, like 2011 and it opens up each photo session I did. For example if I went to the beach on March 25 I would make a folder titled March 25, Beach Shoot. Inside that folder would be all of my pictures from the beach.
Well in lightroom I imported everything and it all shows up as various folders. There are no years, all the years are crammed into one section in the module. The folders section under my C drive.
Its really hard to find certain photos from shoots. I dont care to look through shoots from 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 when I went on a shoot yesterday, in 2012.
What is the best way to organize all my pictures from various years? How do others do this? I bought a Lynda membership for their video lessons and took a 5 hour course on how to organize Lightroom and the guy in the video was dealing with like 150 shots. I’m dealing with almost 20,000.
how to organise(and save) Lightroom catalogue, in such a way that the catalogue can be used on another computer? / so you can see what has been edited etc. /

The file structure does not match from finder to lightroom. I am finding so many duplicated files.
All of my imports seem to go into a 2011 folder. I also tried to create a sub folder within 2011 and promote it to the master Lightroom Photos Folder but it does not work. I've been using a mac for over 20 years and this seems just wrong.
I am organizing photo's of patients in a lightroom catalog. Each patient has a folder with his ID number. These are organised in the catalog according to the pathology. I can import photo's of the same patient after one year and I would like them to go easily in the same folder, with his ID number. Because the catalog with subfolders is large, it can be hard to find that folder. Is there an easy, 'automatic' way to find it, and to put the new photo's straight in this folder?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to transition away from iPhoto to Lightroom. Honestly I've always liked iPhoto. I've found it very easy to use, and the way it organizes photos into "events" is very useful. However, I'll be doing most of my photo work on a PC, so I'm moving over to Lightroom instead.
I have already exported all of my iPhoto library. Each event has its own folder (named after the event), and all the photos have their meta data. Everything is copacetic.
My question is a matter of organization of the photos within Lightroom. In iPhoto, all the events were listed chronologically, and this made it easy to locate what I was looking for. In Lightroom, however, it seems that the way you navigate photos is through the folder list under "Library," which is listed alphabetically instead of chronologically.
I currently have 136 separate folders. So I turn to you for a bit of advice since I am brand new to this program. Any way to organize and browse photos in Lightroom that I don't know about?
I have three weeks of photos from a trip abroad. How can I import several hundred photos and organize them into one file instead of separate files for each date they were taken?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to import a .m2ts file into After Effects CS6, there is no audio track what so ever not even if I do the RAM Preview. However, when I play the clip in Windows Media Player, the sound is totally fine. But whenever I import the clip, After Effects detects the video as having no sound. It doesn't even give me the option to check the little speaker icon in the timeline.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried to provide as much information in the subject line as possible. I have been keeping my VS installations up to date and so I have VS X6 installed on Windows 8.1. I just purchased a new Sony HDR-CX290 camcorder. I have transferred 3 or 4 video files from the camera to my computer using the Sony transfer software which saves it as a *.m2ts file. VS X6 can open the files, I can place it in my timeline. I can run the split by scene and other edit utilities. I even have gone through the process to test and create a disc without any issue. However, if I try to PLAY the clip in the project window, VS x6 crashes. I have uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled VS x6. I have tried reinstalling codecs. The files play without any issue in Nero and Windows Media player. Windows Movie Maker seems to open the files without issues as well. However, I have had my system to make discs via VS for a while now so I would prefer to not have to use a different program. Especially since I have invested in VS x6. I am outside my warranty window so from the sounds of it, I have no recourse to let Corel know if this is a bug or a known issue. I have installed VS X6 SP1 as well and it hasn't fixed the issue.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am evaluating VS Pro X4 (trial version) and one of my tests consists in importing a .m2ts clip, strip some parts of the original clip and save it in the same formats (codec, resolution, aspect ratio, file) as the imported clip.
The original clip is a NTCS HDMV file format (with the .m2ts extension), H.264 video 720p60 (16:9), digital Audio Dolby (AAC).
I'm able to do the first 2 steps without any problem. However, when I want to save the result in a file, I cannot find any way to indicate the software to save in the same format as the original clip. So I am looking for any way to save the video in a 720p60 (59.94 to be accurate) with the same video and audio codec that can be read by a PS3 console (H264, AAC) as a .m2ts file.
Is it possible to do this using VS Pro X4? Or do I need to use a non-trial version? Or do I need to use the Ultimate version? Or is it simply impossible to do this (yet)?
Things I tried:When I want to create a video file, and choose "as per project's parameters". But it appears they are set to NTSC SD for DVD-like output. If I go in the project's parameters menu, there is no way I can set the resolution to 720p60 HD.Among the AVCHD outputs in "Create a video file", I only find 1080i and 1080p resolutions. Same for Blu-Ray outputs. Why is there no 720p resolution in both outputs?In the "Customized" output, there is no way I can set the resolution to 720p60 HD. Is it normal?
I independently verified the M2TS files using MediaInfo.exe to identify that they were 16:9 ratio. But Video Studio Pro X5 seems to "misread them" at import as 4:3 ratio.(both as I hover cursor over file before importing into VSx5 and after import) The result is that the loaded file in VSx5 has black vertical framing added on the left and right of the video image in the preview window and any derivitive video files. Additional Info: the M2TS files prior to loading into VSX5 play in Windows Media Player at 16:9 aspect ratio with no black vertical framing.
There don't appear to be any patches yet for VSX5. Since obviously the VSX5 file attributes themselves are whats in question here, I've put both the output of MedioInfo.exe and VSX5 for the M2TS files here:

I've got LR5 and I started with a completely new catalog, so no migration of anything old.I have lots of video clips from my GH3 but every time I try to play one in the Library it doesn't play. I look at Task Manager and dynamiclinkmediaserver.exe is pegged at close to 100% CPU usage and using 500MB of memory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Lightroom 4.4 stopped importing videos and I don't know why. My Quicktime is up to date, my Lightroom is up to date, and quitting and opening Lightroom doesn't effect it. I tried purging the cache and it didn't effect it.
When I restart my computer and reopen Lightroom it will import a couple of videos and then stop working again.
Most videos from smartphones and a lot from point and shoot cameras are taken in vertical format.There doesn't seem to be a way to flip these videos so that they show up the right way.Video flipping is extremely important for video management. I don't want to preview and edit my videos sideways.Is this feature hidden somewhere or is it just not there?
I am currently using Lightroom 3 for photos and Usher for videos and I was hoping Lightroom 4 could be the single app to manage both.
I have a h.264 video file in .m2ts format, captured using a TV card, and I want to burn this to an AVCHD DVD. I've been trying to do this with VSX4. I don't want the video to be re-encoded because it's already in a suitable format. If I open X4, and then Create Disc and insert the video, the video plays fine and everything looks OK. However, when I click Burn on the final screen, I get a message saying that the video will take some time to render (oddly, since I've chosen the option not to convert compatible files, and VS seems to be taking notice of this choice because if I de-select it, the video size on the disc indicator increases). If I click OK, the rendering process seems to start but it jumps to 3% and then nothing happens. It just sits there.
I thought maybe VS had a problem with the video, so I tried inserting it onto the timeline, and I can edit and output it from there without any problems. But, I can't burn it to AVCHD DVD without re-encoding it, which I don't want to do because it will reduce the quality of what is already a compatible file.
When I import my collection of images and videos using "Import / From file and folders...", Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer crashes when importing one of my .m2ts files. When I debug it I get:
Unhandled exception at 0x1543025B (mc_demux_mp2_ds.ax) in PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe: 0xC0000094: Integer division by zero.
Is there a way for me to import m2ts files successfully? If not, then is there a way to skip importing these files.
The videos I take with my Leica D-LUX 5 do not import into Photoshop Lightroom 3. The still photos import fine. What can I do to fix this?

I go to the Lightroom Publishing Manager, and in the middle it says, "Videos will not be uploaded into this album. Facebook organizes them under "My Videos". OK, but it doesn't have an option for selecting that album.
I would like to get a brand new 4TB drive to place all of my home videos and photos. I'm trying to decide if I should keep the photos and videos on separate smaller drives or on this single 4TB drive. Also I'm rying to decide if I should import the videos into Lightroom for tagging.
1. Would you recomend using a single drive for all of your photos and videos (I will be using a second drive to backup everything)? Does this slow down LR or cause any other potential issues?
2. Are there any issues with importing tons of videos files ranging anywhere from a few MB to hundreds of GB into LR for tagging?
I have a Macpro with 4 internal hard drives. I keep photos on one of the drives and videos on two of the other drives and swap out these drives with other drives that have videos on them. I also use external drives that have videos on them. I want to import videos from all of the different drives that I swap back and forth.
1. What will happen if I tag videos on the internal drives and then swap them out with other drives? Will it just show a broken link to the video until I put it back in?

First of all, the import takes an extremely long time - imorting around 150 videos took over 4 hours, for example. Secondly, once I've imported the videos no thumbnails are created -- they're all grey squares -- and Lightroom then has problems finding the original file for playback, even though the location (on my local drive) hasn't changed.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have originals .mp4s that were made either with my GoPro (1st gen) or with a video camera and these seem to import just fine But the .mp4s I really want to import are the edited versions that were edited in Corel Photostudio in the 1080p or 720p .mp4 also windows says they are .mp4 the file extensions says its .mp4 also but when I go to properties the edited videos look as if they are audio files but they play just fine in windows media player (and I can see the video content) as for the originals unedited; same thing I can see/play them just fine.
I don't understand why LR4 can't import it? I have tried doing a conversion; but the conversion won't keep it in the same resolution, it tends to want to upscale making the video bigger and more grainy converted/upscaled versions ARE importable too.
Is there a specific .mp4 format/codec LR4 will only accept? If so what is it?
I'm about to upgrade Lightroom as my version is 2. I've been late in trying to buy version 4, which supported video catalogues and did minor adjustments. Looking through version 5 manual, I've not seen any reference to videos.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having difficulty getting my videos exported from LR4.1 and imported into iMovie11 (or converted with QuickTimePro).
I'm exporting with H.264 to maintain edits I've made (mov is just a copy of original video but does allow import into QuickTime).
When I import into iMovie11, the only visual is a still frame of the video. The audio works just fine, but there no video. I've optimized the video for full size to ensure its not a performance issue (also on a brand new iMac, so that shouldn't be the problem). From searching around it appears to be a codec issue, so I figured I'd convert it to a different format with QuickTime Pro. When I try and save as a self contained movie (mov format) QTPro fails and says that the movie "contains an incorrect time value". I've had some success with trial versions of other software that converts to different formats, but I don't want to have to buy another piece of software, or do a whole other step!
Smart collection is not working? There are 10 videos in this collection.
