Lightroom :: How To Develop In Soft Proof Mode In LR5
Mar 17, 2014
are the developing capabilities completely equal when it comes to gamut and histogram between ACR and LR5 (5.?) or to get equality do I have to develop in soft proof mode in LR5?
I am looking at an image which has some red areas that are out-of-gamut in the soft proof profile I'm using. It's difficult to preview the areas as red is used to highlight those areas. How can I change the red to be some other color?
When soft proofing, I split the image horizontally and then create proof image when asked after making first alteration. However, in both LR4.4 and 5Beta, both the original and virtual (i.e., proofing image) change.
Have l Brightness value of 55 in original. Proofed image is duller. Increase brightness in proof by 10 to match original. (Figures are just for explanation) Now when I compare images again, original image brightness has increased by 10 also. This can be seen, of course, on the Develop panel.
I'm having with profiling my monitor/printer. I use an i1 Proof which includes the ability to profile my printer but my printer at the moment is a small Epson desktop printer - R220. "Near-as-damn_it" is my usual standard and suits me for general photography. At the moment I am photographing paintings with more exacting standards for reproduction.
I callibrate both monitor and printer. I have read and re-read instructions and use genuine paper/ink. My prints are appear a little darker than my monitor and in fact, the original painting. So can Soft proofing give an idea of the accuracy of the profile? (that's my main question).
Here are my settings
Device to simulate - myPrinterPaperProfile Preserve RGB numbers - Not checked REndering Intent - Perceptual Black Point Compensation - checked Simulate Paper - checked (which also auto checks the simulate black ink option)
Now, if that's my sofr proof setting and I toggle ctrl-y I am flipping between an impression of my printer profile and the actual display profile - is that correct? If I could put a screen shot of the two on the web,
an old box of Crane Museo paper to make some prints on my Epson 3800. I downloaded and installed the Museo profile from Crane almost a year ago, and it shows up in the Windows/sys32/spool/drivers/color directory, along with all my other profiles.
But when I tried to soft proof the image in CS3, the Museo profile did not appear in the list in the Soft Proof dialog. On closer look, there were a few other profiles that also failed to appear.
Is there any way to manually add these profiles to the Soft Proof list? I always thought that the Soft Proof drop down list just picked up the entire "...../color" directory?
Edit an image file and get it to where I like on the monitor.Duplicate the file and set the new file to the profile for the printer which will be used, by using View > Proof Setup > Custom and setting an imported printer profile for the printing company that I use.
Edit the soft proof file to get it to where it looks good again. Save off the file for the printer and also save the new PSD file.
Close the PSD file.Reopen the new (soft proofed) PSD file.Still looks good, but.... when you check View > Proof Setup it's now generally set to Custom: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 instead of to the imported printer profile which was set previously. WHY???? Where did the printer profile go? Is it supposed to do this?
If I then reset View > Proof Setup to the correct printer profile, the image goes to crap again.
Not all the time, but there are times when i am working on an image, generally after I've been working on it in Photoshop. Once it comes back into light room and I want to do just about anything to it everything goes dark and comes back with the adjustment I just made. Does this when I move the slider or make any adjustment to the image whatsoever.
Just downloaded LR4.1 trial version (upgrading from LR3 to work with raw Canon 5DM3 images) and am unable to use Develop mode. When I select a photo in Library and go to Develop it just says "no photo selected".
In Lightroom 4 develop mode, I have noticed that at the bottom of the righthand column there is a button, sometimes marked "sync" and at others marked "previous". It seems to change randomly between the two and I don't know why. I prefer it to be "previous". Why it changes and what I can do to return it to "previous" if it has changed to "sync"?
I am using Lightroom 5. In the Develop mode, is there a way to add a metadata item to a panel. I shoot with several cameras and the way I process an image depends on the camera I used. I would like to add the "Camera Model" to the Histogram panel just under the ISO, Lens length, f stop, and shutter speed. Now I must flip back and forth between Library and Develop to get the information.
I´ve got about 133.000 pictures - all with keywords. In connection with backup of the cataloque -unfortunately I lost the connection with my external HD - and thereafter the cataloque has corrupt in the way, that all pictures are to be find in the keyword list,. Most of the pictures can be viewed in "Library" - but I can´t edit them i "Develop". I get the message : "The folder could not be found"
Restoring it back to "normal" order to have full control over my photos again?
My Lightroom is 5.3 and my OS is Win7 proff.
The cataloque is on my C-drive and all of my pictures are on a external 2 TB HD
So I just updated my mac and now my lightroom controls have changed. The tone/tint sliders and also the vibrance/saturation/hue sliders are missing the color. What I can do change it back? I have uninstalled and reinstalled... restarted my computer....
The left is what it should look like and the right is what my LR looks like...
I have just downloaded LR5 & trying out the develop mode. Don't know how it happened but lost the 'basic' menu in develop mode, how can I gewt this back?
i imported images into LR3 and was about to close the catalog when i got a backup reminder popping up on my screen. so i did the obvious thing and clicked Backup. I later opened the catalog to find to my dismay, details of the each photo showing up in the Develop screen. This doesnt show when viewing in the Library mode though. so each photo has the following details showing on the upper left corner of the image
File Name-8. CR2 date and time image size
how do i get rid of this unsightly details so i can work on the images?
Today I encountered a weird problem with Lightroom. When I switch from Library to Develop to edit photos, immediately, the photo changes. I get strange blue highlights appearing in an area that is largely black, and red, where there is white. If I do a command Z (on a Mac), it just changes back to Library mode.
I am using LR 4.3 with Photoshop CS5. I have found that after editing a picture in photoshop (transfer from CR2 to .TIFF file) it correctly transfers back into LR as an updated .TIFF file with all edits from PS. However, on further editing of the picture in LR the image is refreshed after EACH edit (ie. file reloads into LR taking a few seconds). If I am trying to apply an edit as the refresh starts then that edit gets lost i.e. NOT applied. The refresh happends after ANY change to the file. It is very frustrating as it wastes time and makes editing slow (have to keep waiting for a refresh). It does not appear to happen in that way when editing CR2 files.
I have only noticed this feature since installing V4.3 although it may have been happening in previous versions.
I am using W7, i5 2.5 Ghz processor and 8 GB ram with dual screens.
I have problems with displaying images in develope mode. On the main screen it keeps simply black, on the second screen (scaled fullscreen view) is shows blurry and not sharp...
I'm using LR 4.4. 64bit PC, yesterday I tried an installation of LR 5 beta and got the same problem with showing images
The only way I can see my photos is if I hit the crop button in develop mode. Otherwise my thumbnails and main screen all come up with just a gray screen and I am unable to use any of the tools.
setting up presets for making adjustments to more than one image, I keep hearing about doing that by way of the "quick develop" panel, but I don't like that panel... its a bit too basic or something... I don't like making settings where I can't see a bit more about what I'm doing.
Is there a way to create presets when in the Develope mode? I don't see any clues on the the basic panel, but hopefully I'm missing something. Is there not a way to record the settings I've made inside the basic panel into a preset?
I am using Lightroom 4.1 RC2 on a Windows 7 64 bit system with dual monitors. When I am in the develop mode and make edit adjustments on any setting the 2nd monitor does not update. If I move to another image then come back the image is updated but it does not work in real time. I have never had this problem before and it worked fine in Lightroom V4.0
I just installed Lr4 with update 4.3. . First when i click a photo in develop mode it shows up very small. If I adjust the zoom the photo does erratic things. It gets big but with massive distortion then it will clear up but will have an effect like looking into a bunch of mirrers. Also i can not get the adjustment tools to work at all.
I just upgraded to LR 5 from 4. Shortly after starting to use it, I noticed Tone Curves, Details and Effects are all missing in the Develop mode. I re- downloaded and installed with no return of the missing tools. How do I get them back.
