Lightroom :: Support For OpenGL Or OpenCL?
Jan 14, 2014
Does LR support opengl or opencl?
Using opengl with PS CS6 and PS CC I have seem substantial speed improvements in a number of functions. However, in LR 5 it is getting slower and slower the more images I add. It will often stall/freeze or slow to a crawl. Out of sheer frustration I downloaded Capture One 7 and turned on the opengl support. I imported my entire 1.3 T of image files to C1 7. While it is not as quick as LR - when running as it should - C1 7 never slows down, never stalls, never crashes. I want to continue with LR but its stalls, freezes, slow dows and occassional crashes are killing me.
I have optimized my catalog regularly, put my catalog and previews on my SSD and the cache on a WD Velociraptor - and yet it is getting slower and slower. Both drives are less than 50% full. My images are on a 2t WD Velocirapotor raid 0 - 66% full. Otherwise my system is very quick and very stable - just LR 5 is the probem.

From the Nvidia web site it says that the GeForce GTX 560 Ti supports: DirectX 11 > 3D Vision > PhysX > CUDA > SLI >
301.24 drivers have been used and have downgraded to 296.10 to see if that would work, but it didn't.
When I check the performance tab under Advanced it shows that the OpenCL option is grayed out. When I check the Sys info log it also shows that OpenCL is Not availible (included below).
Why is this and when will it be fixed? Now that CS6 is shipping it should be working.
Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0 (13.0 20120305.m.415 2012/03/05:21:00:00) x64

OpenGL support does not seem to be working on PhotoshopCC. The HUD color picker does not appear and when I try to rotate the canvas, a message pops up that says the rewuest could not be completed because it only works with OpenGL enabled windows.
I have two NVIDIA Quadro K600 cards (with up to date drivers), a Cintiq monitor and a new Dell workstation. I'm using the trial version of Photoshop CC. (I had to replace my computer recently because the old one died, and rather than reinstalling CS4 I decided to try CC and see how I liked it)
My machine is a powerful graphics computer, so it ought to be able to handle OpenGL. Under Preferences / Performance I do have "Use Graphics Processor" checked, but it does not work.

I am going to buy a new GPU soon. I just wonder does Corel VideoStudio X5 support OpenGl while rendering. I want to buy an AMD GPU but if only CUDA is supported, I have to buy a Nvidia instead.

I have an earlier 2008 MacPro with a Radeon HD 2600 XT Card. Adobe says it's supported but all 3D options are grayed out. The menu is grayed out and open GL is grayed.
Do I need a new card? If so, what cards are Mac users using for good 3D?

I recently bought a Wacom Cintiq and installed it as my second monitor. When I start Photoshop CC 64bit, if it opens on my first monitor I am able to use OpenGL features like rotating the canvas or seeing the eye dropper wheel. This continues to work if I drag Photoshop onto my second monitor. However, if PS starts on my second monitor, whenever I try to use the OpenGL features I get error messages saying that OpenGL is disabled for the window.
I would like to be able to open PS on my second monitor and still have all the OpenGL features work.

Some of the main features of Lightroom are reasons for buying it in the first place. Adobe's refusal to support this well known and highly rated camera reveals something about a business model which ignores the needs of their customers. If I buy another camera next year why should I suppose that Adobe will deign to support it?

I have LR 4 and now I have bought a Canon 70D. Lightroom said it was unable to interpret the RAW files and directed me to get an update. I have updated to 4.4 and still have the same problem. How can I get my RAW files into Lightroom 4?

I can't finda list of cameras that are supported in LR5. There is a list for LR4but not LR5. In particular I have three cameras that all work withtethering but I don't have any working software to use thisfacility.
Canon G10
Leica DIgilux 2
Both these cameras came with tethering software that was subsequently dissabled in software updates (Not firmware updates)
I also have the EOS-M and for reasons I don'y understand Canon won't let EOS utility operate the camera even though this functionality exists within the camera because CaptureOnesupports EOS-tethering.

I realize that the 60D just came out but I would love to see tether support in LR3.3. I can get it to work using a watched folder with the EOS utility but not with direct tethering.

Building a machine for my daughter to run Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended.I have those 3 cards available. Will CS6 use AMD OpenCL? I get conflicting data.I have Win7-64 and Win8 in boxes as well. I assume Win7 is safer?
Last is multi core CPU's important or not?I have machines from 6 to 32 cores (singles from 6 to 16 cores, duals from 8 to 32 cores). Is core count or clockspeed more useful? The slowest chips are 2.5ghz, the fastest are 3.33ghz.

By reading comments herein, one is led to believe that LR 5.3 provides tethered capture support for the Nikon D-610. Well, I have a MacBook Pro and OSX, and beg to differ. I cannot, for the life of me, get LR 5.3 to recognize my D-610.
what steps I need to take to get the software to recognize the camera?
If this camera is not supported, when will the D-610 be added? LR 5.3 already supports the 610's predecessor, the D-600; this camera had such a serious dust/sensor problem that Nikon quickly introduced the 610, which is virtually identical but without the sensor problem.

We are thinking about switching over to Lightroom, but 95% of our 60,000 images are EPS files. I recently used a trial version and it didn't seem to recognize my EPS files. Is there a way for Lightroom to acknowledge these files? Is there a plugin to download and try?

Does LR 3.6 support the new Canon 5D Mark III camera? LR4 should. I don't care if the camera metadata is in LR or not. I just want to process the Mark III images in LR3.6. Can't upgrade to LR 4 because it is only 64 bit.

I am wondering whether there is a chance that Lightroom might work under Vista 64 in the future.
So far I bought all versions of Lightroom and without reading the requirements I bought LR5 as well. Only to discover during installation that Vista 64 is not supported anymore. What a shame! I was really looking forward to LR5, but I do not intend to upgrade the operating system on my still excellent computer. That will render other software useless, which is incompatible with Windows 7 or 8. For now there is no other option than asking a refund. However, I hope there are enough people like me, that will be lost as a LR customer, so that Adobe will rethink its policy.

I wonder if there's a support for 30 bit color-capable displays (with compatible graphics card and driver, of course...) in Lightroom 4...
I have a NEC PA241W monitor and FirePro 5800 graphics card at my workplace --> which work well with 30 Bit color depth in Adobe PS CS5.0.4.
Since Lightroom 4 requires an "OpenGL 2.0" compatible graphics card it's obvious, that OpenGL is used now (I think LR3 didn't..?). If LR4 is able to handle 30(48) bit color depth(?)
