I have 2 machines: one is a Mac and one is Windows. Each has a copy of the photos (identical directory structure) and its own lightroom catalog.
All the individual photos/xmp are perfectly syncronized.
If I create a book on machine A, can I copy it to machine B?
How? Export as catalog without the originals/Reimport? Does it work for books?
I want to create a book wich contains fotos from multiple catalogs. How can I do that?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently converted to Mac from pc, and upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 4 at the same time.Apple transferred all of my pc files transferred to the Mac, and then I downloaded the LR upgrade. That may have been a mistake, as all of the 3.6 catalogs remained on the PC. How do I get the 3.6 PC catalogs into the new version on the Mac? I'm thinking that perhaps I should uninstall LR, have Apple repeat the data migration, and then reinstall the LR 4? Or, is there another way?

View 8 Replies View RelatedIn ##backed up and restoring a PSE6 catalogue from an XP based PC to my Vista based laptop I chose the Restore to New Location / Maintain Existing Folder Structure option and both the catalogue files and the picture files were successfully created in my main Pictures folder. The new catalogue was recognised in PSE6 and all files and thumbnails seemed to be connected. However, in retaining the original folder structure I had inadvertently created a lot of unwanted subfolders from the old XP address and the cataloguing info was not in the default /Program Data location where my other catalogues reside. I therefore decided to first move the cataloguing files, and tried to use the Catalogue / Move command for the purpose, thinking, erroneously as it turned out, that this would move only the cataloguing files, and I could then eliminate the unwanted subfolders in my picture file structure by a subsequent drag and drop approach in PSE6.
Catalogue / Move process as to a destination folder for the move, as it never asked, but it seems as though both cataloguing and picture files were moved by the command to the Vista default /Program Data location. I'm not sure whether I asked to make the catalogue available to all users or just myself when asked,but think it was probably the latter. The move resulted in all of the thumbnails in the catalogue becoming disconnected from the picture files, and I then carried out a Reconnect All process which has worked for all but a handful of files.
The problem is that whilst I can see the picture folders I've moved in the Folder View within PS6, and most seem connected to the catalogue thumbnails, I cannot find them, or indeed the /Program Data folder that they sirt inside, by searching outside of PS6. It is as if they don't exist, or are hidden from Windows Explorer. All of the old picture folders have also disappeared when I look at the Folders View within PS6, except for those that contained the few picture files that are now disconnected (and these are greyed out). I could try to drag and drop the new folders back to Pictures within PS6, or try to delete the catalogue and files entirely, and begin the restore process again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of making a photobook using Lightroom and discovered when I reached page 240 that I couldn't add any additional pages, much to my surprise. I was surprised because I knew from Blurb's website that the limit for standard paper is 440 pages and mistakenly assumed that this limit would also apply within Lightroom. I did more research online and found many others being surprised by this limitation after spending hours and days on a photo book. I will likely work around this by exporting from Lightroom to .jpg and uploading to Blurb, but that will take extra time and effort and reduces the appeal of using Lightroom to create a Blurb book. I had also tried exporting from Lightroom to .pdf only to find that the .pdf format exported by Lightroom is not compatible with the requirements of Blurb.

It renders the pages and then having rendered the cover gets stuck, about 50% to 60% through the process. None of the photographs are starred or colour coded. I have uploaded successfully from this iMac in the last few weeks.

I accidently erased 38 pages, so after I re-created them, I clicked on Create Saved Book, which put it in Collections. Now I am trying to work on the book again, and can open it, but when I go to the Library of photos, Lightroom automatically repopulates a new book with all the photos in that file and won't let me put them in the book I saved. How can I get this partially finished book so that I can use it?

For some reason the next time I start LR, it cannot find the catalog, and I have to manually point to the backup, since I know that one is current. I'd assume the one in My Pictures is current also, but for some reason I keep getting this error.

When I reopened it all catalog references are gone- from this session and previous sessions. So I pulled in the photos from folders but none of the metadata changes were there (I now know it's because they were imported as CR2's-- won't do THAT again!) Is there anyway to get changes back?

I can click in them in develop mode and work on them so they are in the program. After working on them they appear in the catalogs until I develop other pics at which point they switch to the grey box again

I need to start fresh with Lightroom but when I reinstall the software it auto loads the catalogs. I have about 7000 photos and its a big job but I have to do it. Also, If I delete all metadata and previews associated with my pictures will this also delete all editing of my photos or will that just get rid of the Catalogs?

View 6 Replies View RelatedIn my New Years' organizing spree today, I decided to split my Lightroom catalog into two separate catalogs. I didn't see an efficient way of doing this, so what I did was copy my entire catalog into a new catalog, and then I deleted (from disk) the ones that didn't belong in the respective catalog. After I deleted a few "catalog A" photos from catalog B, I double-checked catalog A to make sure I wasn't totally deleting them. . .only to later find out that I was only looking at a thumbnail. So now ALL of my photos are deleted, and I can't figure out how to restore them.
I used Time Machine to restore yesterday's version of Lightroom 4 lrcat. I created a new catalog--trying to start fresh--tried to import the photos from LR 4 lrcat. I have thumbnails, but on each it says "the file named x is offline or missing."
I also have a LR 3 catalog which houses the bulk of my years of photos since I just upgraded to LR4 a month or so ago. I tried restoring that from Time Machine as well but was unsuccessful in getting anything more than a picture that says "the file named x is offline or missing."
Although I am hopeful because I do use Time Machine, I do have a foreboding feeling because at some point when I deleted over 1000 images, I got a message that said that this action could not be undone because I was doing it to 1000+ images.
I am using LR 4.3. Using OS X 10.8.2. I am using some RAW files, others from earlier years are JPGs.
I just wanted to know if there was anyway to have lightroom 4 backup catalogs upon launching the program instead of upon exiting? I know in previous verisons you were able to do this..

In the process I converted 3 catalogs and they are just fine.
Now every time I startup and the list of catalogs is shown the old ones are still there.
How can I get rid of them without deleting the wrong files?
I am planning to purchase Lightroom soon. When I install it, will the 5 different catalogs that I have in Elements 9 automatically form 1 large catalog in Lightroom, with version stacks, keywords, and ratings intact? Or will only the current catalog show up, and if so, how would I get the other 4 catalogs into Lightroom? The reason I am switching to Lightroom is that I can't handle 5 different catalogs easily, so I want to make sure I can combine them into one catalog in Lightroom.
