I have Lightroom 3.5 and recently got D600. I am unable to open NEF format and "Software update" option from my help menu states "no updates available". how I can open D600 NEF files in Lightroom 3.5.

I just downloaded and installed LightRoom 4.3 which states that it now includes support for Nikon D600. When I try to import files into the Catalogue it displays an error message over each NEF file that it cannot be imported. There are also JPEG files to correspond to each NEF file but they will not import either. I restarted the computer and the program after download .

What do I need to do to get them to work? Will I have to bite the bullet and update to CS6 or is there a way around it?
When I try to open raw NEF files from a Nikon D600 with Photoshop CS5 I get: "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw"
Nikon D600, however, is among the camera models listed as compatible with Camera Raw CS5.
I have never had any problem in Camera Raw CS5 and older versions with raw NEF files from a Nikon D80 camera. Is there an update for CS5 to make it compatible with Nikon D600 raw NEF files?
Will any update allow PSE 10 to open D600 NEF files?

However a few moments later, somehow those images were no longer in my catalog/library and when I try to reimport them again it says the files are not compatible and no preview was available during the import screen.

Now I see that if I import a raw file into LR, work on it and then try to send it to PS for more editing I can't do that. I am told I have to spend another $199 to upgrade to CS6 because Adobe has no plans to have CS5 support my camera. This is a rip-off. I was told that I can convert all my NEF files to DNG, bring them into LR and then into PS, but "the quality will not be as good".
