I have about 4 TB of images on an external drive: a DROBO (call it D1). I have another DROBO (call it D2) that is a mirror of D1 updated hourly by Chronosynch. How can I (hopefully easily) tell Lightroom to now use D2 instead of D1?

I opened Lightroom.
Noticed there was a question mark by the photo folder I needed.
I synchronized the folders. Nada.
I rememebered I moved the images (first line ^^)
I re-imported the images from the external drive into Lightroom.
These images (other than one that was marked previously with a blue label) look completely untouched - completely original files - even though I spent hours working on them.
I am glad the images weren't deleted BUT re-doing 600 images will be a MAJOR FAIL if I can't figure out how to import the images with the settings / developments I did beforehand.
How can I move my Lightroom 4 catalog (data, not photos) from my local drive to an external drive? My local drive is running out of space.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI successfully moved most of my Lightroom photos from one external drive which was nearly full to a new 1 TB drive. However, 95 photos out of over 16,000 would not move. I figured out it was because I had originally copied them to the old drive from a CD and the permissions were read only. So I went into Finder-Get Info and changed the permissions on all 95 files to read and write. Now, however, Lightroom will not transfer the folders containing the files to the new drive. It says "A Folder Named . . . already exists at this location." However, the folder doesn't show up in Lightroom. Lightroom did create the folder, and it shows in Finder, but it does not show in the LR catalog and I can't import files into it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of migrating from Windows (7) to an iMac which has been a partial success re Lightroom but I'm having problems with moving folders / files within LR (4.4).
On the Windows PC I had all of my photos on the hard-drive (with duplicate back-ups) and my intention was to move only a proportion of these onto the iMac, leaving older folders on an external drive - again with backups. To migrate to the iMac I had initial success as follows:
1. Installed LR 4.4 on the iMac.
2. Moved all photos onto an external drive from within LR.
3. Copied across the lrcat and lrdta files and the presets to the iMac
4. Started LR and loaded the copied catalogue - worked fine - see all my folders plus their question marks as expected.
5. Was able to re-linked the folders (still on the external drive) within LR - question marks disappeared, able to access & develop folders/files on the ext drive within LR - good.
6. Then the problems occurred when within LR I tried to move folders from the external drive to the iMac (into a top-level 'Lightroom Photos' folder I created within Pictures) but the following then happens:
When I drag a folder up from the ext to the main drive I get the usual 'moving files on disk warning' box, click 'Move' to confirm but then I get an error message 'Could not complete the folder move. An unknown error occurred', click OK and the folder has remained on the external drive. Oddly, when I check via Finder the folder has been created within my 'Lightroom Photos' folder although it doesn't show there in LR and no photos are included in it - they're still on the hard-drive.
I did think this might be something to do with the format of the ext drive - it is shows as read only and is NFTS and I now understand this can be a problem when writing to it from an iMac - but I appear to be able to 'develop' photos on the external drive.
I did find a 'workaround' - in Finder I copied a folder directly into the 'Lightroom Photos' folder on the hard-drive and managed to link to it by clicking on the question mark originally created by the lrcat copy. Seems a bit cumbersome and I would then have to delete the originals from the ext drive but does this sound okay? Why I can't move them from the ext drive from within LR but can work on them whilst still on that drive?
We have a drawing here that involves many annotative blocks mirrored to create a layout, then on reopening the drawing the annottaive text of the blocks that have been mirrored are in the correct place but the objects have 'pinged' off the layout,
Have a look - if you change the anno scale to any scale you will see the blocks but change to 1:50 (the scale i want it at!) they shoot off to the left of the layout (outside the defpoint rectangle).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to consolidate all of my image files onto one hard drive by copying them from multiple drives to one large new one. The desired result is that I would have my library on that new drive, with all the links making sense to LR, but leaving the original files on those original drives as an archival back up. I know how to MOVE the files within LR, but I can't figure out how to COPY them. If the image files were not already in the catalog, I would just import them using "copy and add to catalog." Worst case, I suppose I could move all of the files to the new drive and then export copies to the old drives, but that seems very time consuming. I have more than 3TB of files.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have about 900 raw files on an external drive. I edited those files using my master catalog using a laptop while still travelling. When I got home, I copied the master catalog from the external drive to the desk top, then opened the master catalog on my desktop. I can see the edited images on the external drive. So far so good.
I want to copy (add) the edited images to my desk top. I tried to export the images as a new catalog and then import it into the desire location on my desktop drive. However, LR5 does not allow that. I get this message: "There is nothing new in the catalog you have selected. All of the catalog's photos are up to date in this catalog." Yes, but the edited images are not on my desktop.....
I also tried to Import from the external drive and then Copy the files to the desktop, but then I lose all of the work done in the develop module and the keywords.
I watched Kost's LR 3 video on merging catalogs, but she dodges the question of how to deal with this issue since the "merge" is within the same catalog.I'm using LR5 with Windows 7.
I'm copying RAW files from a shoot onto my network RAID drive in a per-album folder, from where I then import into a new LR catalog (I'm using LR 4.1) on my Windows laptop for that album.
I'm finding that editing RAW files on a network drive from a wireless laptop is awfully slow (not to mention not being able to continue the work offline somewhere else), so I'd like to cache those files on my speedy SSD drive just until I'm done editing and exporting/publishing that album.
I back up my per-album catalog onto the network folder alongside the RAW files since that's my IT-managed master repository. When I'm done editing, I'd purge the cached files and just keep the catalog previews on my limited capacity SSD.
So, is there a way to tell LR to, for one/all files imported from a location (in my case a network folder), look in an alternate location for the identical files? Since I create per-album catalogs in per-album folders, there wouldn't be filename clashing. Either LR can provide this caching behavior on its own or I'd manually copy files from the network folder to a local folder and tell LR to look there first.
I don't really want to make copies of files into secondary folders within LR since then it's a hassle to merge edits on the cached copy to its master copy (I haven't done this, but I'd imagine so).
I have my LR library and catalog on an external hard drive. I have a new iMac with a 3TB hard drive and I want to move the library and catalog from the external drive to the computer's hard drive. Is this something that can be done with a drag and drop?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two set of chain drives connected to each other through a common axle. The motor (which is not visible in my assembly) drives the yellow sprocket.
The two sprockets mounted on the grey axle is attached with a key way so when the yellow sprocket turns, the two chain drives turns.
I want to attach the blue sled on the blue chain, the red sled on the red chain and then rotate the yellow sprocket so both of the sleds moves with their chains (at the same speed/ time).
The blue sled is going to move a rolled bar (the orange one) on the floor (glass square) a certain length and then the red sled is going to "take over" and continue to move the bar on the floor.
I want to make sure I´ve got the spacing between the sprockets in the short chain drive (red) correct so the red sled takes over when the blue sled disappears under the floor.

View 2 Replies View RelatedComputer 1's hard drive crash and all programs and data were recovered professionally and sent to me on an External Hard Drive. Computer 1 was on Windows 7. I can fun the program off of the External Hard drive fine, when connected to my my new Computer. I click on the .exe file and it pulls up the catalogue as it should. All off of the recovery drive.
The new Computer, is on Windows 8.1. How do I get the Adobe Catalogues moved/copied to the new Computer?
I redownload Adobe 10 onto my new 8.1 Computer from the Adobe website. Using the new download, I was able to open the Catalogue on the External Drive (F). Cannot find a way to "relocate" the Catalogue to the new computer. The pictures have already been copied to the new computer.
I am running out of space on my internal hard drive on a MACBookPro and would like to move my photoes to an external disk and keep the catalog pointing to them. They are currently in nicely named folders and I would like to keep them that way. How can I do this?
