I have a macbook pro running osx 10.8.4 and LR 4.4 installed. When I try to change the cache size in the LR Preferences from 1.0 gig to 10 it doesn't "stick". I change it, close the pref. menu and when I reopen it to check, it's back to 1.0 How can I change this and make it stay?

I've been trying in vain to change the projection type in my styles editor to 3rd angle and keeping it like that for all future drawings.
It's easy enough to change projection type for an individual drawing by going through Manage > Styles editor > View Preferences, but I'd like all drawings in future to default to 3rd angle. I've tried saving the file as a new template (many times) in Templates > Metric but they always default back to 1st angle projection.
Every time I download new photos, I have to change the download location from pictures to my work folder. How do I change the download location permanently?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how many/how big drives/SSD or hard drives I need to get for a quad-core Mac Pro, and am stuck when it comes to the scratch disk.
1) How do I determine how big a scratch disk needs to be in Photoshop CS4 extended (Mac)? I've come across a few sites which explain how to calculate this but they're very technical and hard to grasp IMHO.
2) Where do SSDs come into the equation? Obviously they're still too expensive and small for file storage, but will a SATA-3 SSD (connected to a SATA-3 PCIe card if the onboard SATA-3 interface will be a bottleneck) do wonders as a scratch disk? I've read opinions that go both ways on this. Or are they mostly for use as a system and applications boot drive? And does it make much of a (real world) difference to use a SATA-3 SSD/PCIe interface or just stick with the SATA-II interface already available?
3) Apart from Photoshop, do other applications use a scratch disk as well (Lightroom for instance, which I also use)? It seems a waste to dedicate a hard drive or SSD just for Photoshop alone.

I set the paper to say 15 * 18 and borderless and select print. The paper size shown in the top left changes back to A4 by itself. Try setting the options again and they remain as selected. Select another photo and try to print 15 * 18 borderless and the paper size changes again.
changing the font size that's used in the titles and captions of pictures when I create a web gallery.
I'm using LR to create web galleries of my son for my family to see him growing up and I like to use the title and captions to put comments about each picture. Some of the people who view these galleries on-line have poor vision and need to see a BIGGER font. The only font size for titles and captions seems to be embedded in LR and it's mighty small, any way to increase it?
I'm not sure what I did to make this happen or how to change it back, but for some reason when I change the size of an object/line it changes the stroke weight as well. (For example, if I drew an ellipse with stroke weight 2 pt, and then increased the size the stroke weight would be 2.856 pt or some such number instead of 2 pt.) How to change this back?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLightroom 5 on Windows 7 32 Bit and 8 Gigabytes of memory (more than the 32 Bit system can use) permanently runs out of memory when doing some more complex edits on a RAW file, especially when exporting to 16 Bit TIFF. The RAW files were created by cameras with 10 up to 16 megapixel sensors with bit depths between 12 and 14.
After exporting one or two images to 16 Bit uncompressed TIFF an error message "Not enough memory" will be displayed and only a Lightroom restart solves that - for the next one to two exports. If an image has much brush stroke edits, every additional stroke takes more and more time to see the result until the image disappears followed by the same "Not enough memory" error message.
A tab character in the XMP sidecar file is *not* the reason (ensured that), as mentioned in a post. It seems that Lightroom in general does not allocate enough memory and frees too less/late allocated.
fix that bug, it's not productive permanently quit and restart Lightroom when editing/exporting a few RAW files. Versions prior to Lightroom 4 did not have that bug.
I have a very large catalog that I am wanting to clean up and remove files from my computer.

I want to change the size of the image in Gimp to 3957x4429 px (67x75 cm) at a 150dpi (the image we have has a 300 dpi.) When i do this in image - print size it keeps changing the width.
The system is not allowing me to get the picture a few cm larger. Is there any way I can overwrite this?

I am trying to change my default import location on my MAC Pro Tower, to one of the internal HD's. I have named the HD Photo Location, and have created a folder in it called it "My Lightroom Photos". I have been able to create this, but cannot seem to ber able to make it my default when I open LR 3.5. I have to manually go in and change it. Is there a way that this can be changed to make it my default?

1 of these files could not be moved to the Trash. The files are on a volume that does not support Trash. Would you like to permanently delete them?
The options are "Permanently Delete Files" and "Cancel."
Is it possible to permanently bypass the "Permanently Delete Files" prompt?
i currently have a logo that is 460X440 pixels and 12.17cmsX11.69cms and the resolution is 96 pixels per inch.
i am wanting to change it into a 2cm X 2cm avatar that is less than 6K in size,
how do i do this? everything i try makes the output file about 24k in size.
the reason i am doing this is the forum i regularly post on has a max avatar size of 6k.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have the preference set to keep 1:1 cache files for 30 days, and the max cache size is set to 30gb. The cache file has never yet approached this size. I've gone through the trouble of having LR work in the background to create previews for whole collections. After this process, performance is as snappy as I'd expect; images load immediately and there's no more than a one second lag when zooming in to 1:1. But hours or days later, on the same collections, when there has been no change made to the files, everything slows down. The wheels spin as LR loads each image preview, even at reduced fit-to-screen size. Processor utilization zooms to near 100% during these loads, so it seems LR is rendering the views all over again.
What happened to my cached previews?
Running a mac pro, 8 core xeon 2.8ghz, 18gb ram, 3tb 7200rpm data drive that's about 10% full.
The delay happens when in develop mode. In Library mode the pre-made previews are available and load instantly. Is this just the way things are?

2. Can I open an "in progress' project from P Pro CS4 with CC P Pro and continue editing?
I keep trying to open LR5 and it gives me an error message that says it encountered a problem with the preview cache and needs to shut down, and it will attempt to fix the problem next time I open LR 5. It keeps happening and won't allow me to open LR5 at all.

I've read that the Develop module stores information on photos it opens in the Camera Raw Cache, while the Library module stores its previews in the LRDATA directory adjacent to the Lightroom Catalog. I've also read that the former can be stored anywhere and is limited to a size specified in Preferences, while the latter must accompany the Catalog file and has no cap on its size.
So why is my Camera Raw Cache always empty? I go in and out of the Develop module, edit, switch among photos within Develop, view images at 1:1 and larger within Develop, etc. Shouldn't that cause cache entries to be generated in the Camera Raw Cache? I've tried moving my Camera Raw Cache from within Preferences, and I have the size of the cache set to 30 GB with plenty of room on the drive, but it's still always empty.
I have 1142 Camera Raw cache files. Do I need them all or can some be deleted?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi was trying to move some files via LR.I've researched and found that everyone else was able to fix their issue by moving the preview database out of LR, tried that but it doesn't fix the problem.I've moved all files except the new preview and catalog (only a single catalog) database from the Picture/ Lightroom folder.I've rebooted the computer several times and tried opening LR, still no joy.The size of my catalog is 3.8GBThe size of the preview is 6.5GB (77,186 files in 45,745 folders).This is a new install from scratch on a new PC,
Specs are:
Intel i7 4770
32GB memory
2 x 250GB SSD drive in RAID 1 for OS and apps
1 x 6TB SATA HDD for images in a RAID 5
1 x 5.3TB SATA HDD for final images in a RAID 5
I've had nothing but issues with this system since day 1, images transferred and they do not show up correcting inthe individual folders (especially 2012). Total image count is about 320,000
Seems to me that LR cannot handle the numbers although LR3.6 was a lot stable this version is shakey all over the place.
I've browsed a few previous forum questions and answers and it appears I might need to find my catalog and delete my preview cache file(s). However, I cannot find where these files are stored. A few of the forum responses said to go into Lightroom edit/preferences to find where these files are stored, but I cannot get into Lightroom. When I open it, it gives me the error message and I can't seem to get into edit to find where these files are stored.
Also, I'm relatively new to Lightroom (been using it for a little over a month, mostly just editing and not much for cataloging and organizing my photos)
