Lightroom :: Black Speckles When Using Adjustment Brushes

Apr 15, 2013

I'm having an ongoing issue with Lightroom 4.4 when using adjustment brushes in the development module with RAW files from a Canon 5d Mark III Raw on a retina MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.3  When using the adjustment brush to make exposure adjustments, the adjusted area gets covered with tiny black speckles. I see it when trying to darken down highlights or when trying to lighten shadow areas. The heavier the adjustment, the worse the speckles get. I have taken the same original images and opened them in Photoshop and made similar local adjustments with curves and the images look fine, so it's definitely an error with Lightroom inserting the artifacts.

Lightroom :: 4.2 Adjustment Brushes Aren't Working?

Oct 24, 2012

When I go to use my adjustment brushes, I would select the one I wanted to use and then go try to use it.  As soon as I first let go of my mouse, the brush would change to custom.  Since updating to 4.2, that has stopped switching, but my brushes still don't work. I have tried multiple brushes and it's all of them, not just one particular one.  I have tried restoring my presets, that didn't work. I have tried deleting all of the presets from the folder, restarting Lightroom and re-importing them, that didn't work. I updated Lightroom, that didn't work.  I have restarted my computer and that didn't work.  The thing is, is that they HAVE worked before.  I was switching between some catalogs and once I was done with that, they stopped working.  So I'm not sure if I did something while switching between catalogs or not.  I use these brushes all the time and they are a significant part of my workflow!

Lightroom :: New V4 Adjustment Brushes Not Available In Upgraded V3 Catalogue

Mar 12, 2012

I have installed the trial version of Lightroom 4 but after upgrading my Lightroom 3 catalogue I am not able to access the new adjustment brushes such as noise etc. on any image from the upgraded catalogue -  If I import a new image then all of the new functions are available.  Is there something else I need to do to allow me to use the tools on the existing catalogue? I have tried deleting the “Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat” importing the catalogue from within LR 4but I get the same result.

Lightroom :: Adjustment Brush Black Spots In Poor Light Shots?

When using the adjustments brush to locally increase exposure(for example) it seems that not all pixels are covered. In the red display of the selected zone you can see black spots all over the zone that are not selected even after repeated use of the adjustment brush. The result looks like heavy noise and is pretty bad. I must say it gives the impression that it happens with "low light" pictures only!? Windows/XP3, Lightroom2.2

Photoshop :: Camera Raw Adjustment Screen Is Black?

I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber, using Mac OS 10.8.1. For some reason, when I open a raw image in ACR, the adjustment screen displays a black backgrond. Black text on a black background. The slider bars show up, but I can't read the labels, and have to go from memory. I uninstalled and then re-installed Photoshop CS6, tried to find where ACR;s prefs are located so I can try trashing them and so forth - all to no avail.

Photoshop :: CS4: Black-and-White Adjustment Layer -...

Dec 11, 2008

The modal dialogue for Black and White has the "Colorize" option and for that "Hue" and "Saturation" sliders.

But Black and White as an adjustment layer in the adjustments palette does NOT offer the Saturation slider. At least not in my CS4 Extended on Win XP. There is the targeted adjustment tool (TAT), but it changes color, not saturation.

GIMP :: Brushes Looking Jagged All Black On 2.8

Nov 14, 2012

One of the features I use most is the brushes. However, when I installed Gimp (2.8) on my new laptop, my favorite brushes no longer work properly:

* they're jagged, pixelated, or the finer lines are interrupted - instead of looking smooth
* I can't change the color of them; they just show up black

I made a comparison of screenshots so you can see. Same brush, same size (even though one version says "scale" and the other "size," I made them both go up to the 100 pixel mark, and you can see that the brush's natural size is larger than that), same canvas size.

On my old laptop, I had Gimp 2.4.1 and the OS was Windows Vista, 32-bit. Here the brushes looked right: [URL]

On my new laptop, I have Gimp 2.8 and the OS is Windows 7, 64-bit. Here, I can't use the color from the gradient, and the brush doesn't look smooth (and the finer lines are interrupted): [URL]

Photoshop :: Brush Tool Won't Paint Black In Masks Of Adjustment Layers

May 12, 2006

this worked until yesterday. I didn't install any software on the pc or change any settings that I can think of. I'm using photoshop cs2. I've rebooted the computer several times and I've quit/restarted photoshop several times.

when I create an adjustment layer, I cannot paint black in the mask area. I can fill with black and paint white. if, after filling black and painting white, I press D (to swap foreground/background colors), I can paint, a paintbrush thing shows up in the history, but it won't change. if I press D again, and paint some more white, it shows up in white. likewise, if I choose black another way (eyedropper, setting rgb to 0,0,0), it behaves the same. likewise, if I don't start out by filling black, and I just try to paint black on the white mask, it behaves the same (doesn't work).

if I create a new layer, I can paint black on it. If I switch to the pencil tool rather than the brush tool, I can pencil black into my adjustment layer masks.

any suggestions?

or what info can I get for you so you have a good place to start?

Lightroom :: Adjustment Brush Changes Size

Jul 7, 2012

In Develop, when preparing to use the Adjustment Brush, first I adjust the size of the brush.  I slide my cursor along the Size slider and the displayed adjacent "sample brush" varies in size. Next, I move the cursor into the field of the image.  When the cursor crosses over into the image field, the circle indicating brush size changes;  it gets larger by roughly 25%.  I have been using the adjustment brush now for what seems like 2 or 3 years, but I can't recall it changing size before. Is this normal?  2 screenshots:  a) the cursor(sadly not reproduced in the screenshots) hovers at the slider;  b) The cursor is moved to the image field, and the Adjustment brush circle has increased in size.
