Just updated to LR 4.4 and it crashes every time I try to rotate an image in the crop mode. I'm right in the middle of a book project and desperately need to go back to LR 4.3. How to get rid of 4.4 and go back to 4.3? Using Mac OS 10.8.2.
View 7 RepliesI am currently in the process of testing LR4 and use a LR3 library that I converted to LR4.
If I rotate an image from (or to) landscape/portrait I cannot use the crop/rotate tool anymore by pulling the edges. The control sliders work, but not the active corners. If I put the image back to the original position, things work like a charm.

when I select the crop tool, my image disappears during the entire crop process. I can only see the image in the preview pane. Why is this happening? I am using the most current version of Lightroom, and I am on a PC.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am missing a crop tool which can rotate the crop rectangle. Similar to photoshop's tool. I found no way to rotate the crop rectangle in gimp. How do you cut out something from an image if it needs to be rotated while cropping? I tried rotating first then cropping but it does not give me enough precision so I end up with transparent areas at the border.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI used a flat bed scanner to scan in a bunch of old photos. The photos aren't completely straight -- I figured I could rotate and recrop using LR.
Here's the problem: I have a bunch of crooked photos on a white background. If I try to rotate the photo, it ends up cropping out part of the photo. (This does make sense -- You've all seen this when you've tried to rotate a photo.)
But I need to figure out how to tell LR to just add in extra white background where needed instead of cutting into my actual photo.
I can do this in PS by creating a big white background, rotating the original pic and then cropping. That's a hassle when you have 100+ images. But isn't there some way to do this in LR?
I never had problems using the cropping tool to rotate an image to straighten it and then crop. Now in windows all my cropping tool wants to do instead of rotate is SKEW! What is up?

This effectively makes the image bigger than the original. the only way to achieve the same effect is to scale the image, that keeps the pixel dimensions the same but effectively reduces the size of the image.

View 4 Replies View Relatedhow to create a simple action, i.e. rotate, crop, etc. What I can't find in a search of the Forum and web is a clear tutorial on how to create an action using text. For example, midway through the action, I want to enter text; however, I don't know how to have the action present the text box for me to select the text/font/color, etc. Each time I use this action, it will be with different text, and if I simply enter the text as part of the original action, that same text appears in all subsequent uses.
When I include a Stop and add text, then begin recording again, it doesn't seem to work either?
After I position a crop on an image it keeps moving up, to the top of the image, after I deselect the image. I did use the upright functionality at first but turn it of to do it manually. Maybe this feature has left some settings in the LR develop settings for this image. I could post some screenshots if that will work.

An example would be a taking a crop of one person in a couple,from a larger image. The crop is outside common aspect ratios. Can lightroom fit the image to an aspect ratio of my liking whilst maintaining everything I have cropped?

Likely a simple question; I have completed a part and because I am new, drew it a certain way to make my life easier. Now that the part is complete I would like to rotate the entire part (but not create a new solid) by 45 deg.

I have 3dsmax 2013 and would be forever grateful for a solution to a parameter wiring problem. In simple question form: How do you wire a slider helper to rotate an object in LOCAL coordinate mode? I've tried it a hundred times and it's not wiring the rotation parameter in LOCAL coordinate mode, it defaults to world or view coordinate mode. (Look at gif attachment)
To replicate this issue in 3dsmax 2013, simply create a cube in the viewport.
In perspective view(or any other), switch to local coordinate mode and rotate it off center any way you wish. Now create a helper of manipulator-->slider type. Right click on the slider, click wire parameter-->value and link to the Box rotation in Z. Make the connection through a one way (--> wiring from slider to box.
Now when you move the slider value, the box doesn't rotate in local coordinate mode, it rotates in world coordinates or view coordinates. Whatever it is, it's not local. What is the expression for LOCAL coordinate rotation? By default the expression in the slider box of wire parameter dialog is z_rotation(or something like that). Looking at the maxscript reference, I've tried Local_Euler_z_rotation and other stuff. I can't figure out how to just get a local coordinate mode rotation through a simple wire parameter link to a slider.
I Just istalled Lightroom 4.2 and imges will not display in Library mode. this LR 4.2 was an upgrade for LR4.1 which worked perfectly before the upgrade. Now all I get in Libary mode is image data and a grey spot where the images should be.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to crop an image visually, by sliding the cropping bars by eye. Not by typing in a specific size. How do I do that? My cropping tool seems to be set on some dimension. I've "reset" it, tried recropping from the "original" but still when I move the top horizontal bar in the cropping tool, it automatically is moving the vertical sides. As if a preset size/dimension/ratio is applied to it. Although I didn't apply any such dimension.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLet me start by describing my needs. I need to generate proofs for my shoots. I'd like to export images with different aspect ratios for target devices, ie iPad, Android phone, 16:9 TV, etc. What would be really great is if I can select a named "crop setting" in the export window and generate JPGs based on the chosen setting. I've searched all over the place, all seem to talk about presets, virtual copies, etc, which really doesn't address what I want.
Fundamentally I'd like to be able to save a handful of crop settings (unique crops but with common names) for each image. I will create the crops manually as I have to pick the position and size for each carefully. For example, on a 4000x6000 image I have these crop settings (for a fairly small area of the image):
1. iPad [settings: top-left coordinate (500,500), ratio 4:3, width2000]
2. Android [settings: top-left coordinate (500,400), ratio 8:5, width 2400]
3. HDTV [settings: top-left coordinate(500,450), ratio 16:9, width 2200]
As you can see each crop is different becasue I want to be precise about how the cropped outputs look. Then at export time, I want to be able to multi-select a bunch of images and pick say "iPad" crop setting to create the JPGs in a batch.
Is there a custom plugin outside of Lightroom that can handle this?
Is it possible to either print or save an image that shows the crop lines from Lightroom (i.e. shows what is both in AND out of the image as it is cropped). I'm working off a scanned negative and I want to show my printer just how to crop the image. She was hoping to see both what's inside and outside the crop? Possible to get that to her either by printing that from my computer or emailing it to her?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, everything is working great in PS CC on my Surface Pro 2, except if i rotate my tablet to portrait mode.
The main window stops with a bunch of empty space below it. It will not stretch any further down than what you see. Also, looks like the ui on the top right is a bit cut off. I'd love to be able to use the full screen in portrait mode, but just haven't been able to figure out what the issue is. I'm running a fully updated Photoshop CC on an up to date Windows 8.1.
I am using LR 4.3 with Photoshop CS5. I have found that after editing a picture in photoshop (transfer from CR2 to .TIFF file) it correctly transfers back into LR as an updated .TIFF file with all edits from PS. However, on further editing of the picture in LR the image is refreshed after EACH edit (ie. file reloads into LR taking a few seconds). If I am trying to apply an edit as the refresh starts then that edit gets lost i.e. NOT applied. The refresh happends after ANY change to the file. It is very frustrating as it wastes time and makes editing slow (have to keep waiting for a refresh). It does not appear to happen in that way when editing CR2 files.
I have only noticed this feature since installing V4.3 although it may have been happening in previous versions.
I am using W7, i5 2.5 Ghz processor and 8 GB ram with dual screens.
this is distracting - In LR4 there was no border.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
1. Select a photo in Library mode.
2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. folders
