In the import or sync dialog I see my photos, but after starting the import or sync the progress bar hangs at 100% and no new photos are in my katalog. I have tried to import from HDD and SD-Card reader, both end in the same problem. Import in a new katalog does not work either. No error message comes up and I have free storage space.
View 5 RepliesI renamed a lot of my photo folders in Explore. Now in LR4, all these folders appears with an ?. I can't work on pictures from these folders - I get the message: File named xxx is offline or missing. It does not sync the parent folder. Nor does it sync the folder it self. If I right clik on a LR4 folder with a ?, and try to locate the folder, I only get the option to merge the identical folders. Is there any way to sort this. I can't restore the old folder names.

I use Photo Mechanic for tagging, selecting, purging and meta-data management becuase it is very fast. Then I import into LR by asking it to synchronize with the top folder.
The problem is that LR4 (and LR3 before it) identifies a couple of thousand photos as being "new" and needing to be imported, then when I tell it to Import by clicking the "Synchronize" button, it grunts for a minute or two and then comes back and says "No photos or videos were found to import". So if there is nothing to import, why does it keep saying there are 2,563 "new" photos? It hangs on this same number for weeks at a time, though it has crept up from LR3 when it was only about 1600.
Why is Synchronize out of sync? How can I get it really sychronized and keep it synchronized?
I have the box regarding JPGs adjacent RAW checked so that they are treated as separate images. I've tried checked and unchecked and it has no effect on this problem.
I don't understand Lightroom.
For example, I use LR4.2 on a desktop and on a laptop. Both computers (Windows 7 64bit) access the same image folders. On my laptop in a folder I have 42 master images and 5 virtual (soft proofs) images for a total of 47 images. But when I open LR4.2 on the desktop I don't see the 5 virtual (soft proofs) on the 42 master images.
Why can't I see the 5 virtual proofs since I am accessing the exact folder and how can I see the virtual proofs created on the laptop at the desktop.
I have been useing LR5.3 without any issues for a while. Suddenly, I cannot import files from anywhere. I tried optimizing catalog with no results. When I import, it gives me a message box saying "Some import operations were not performed", then lists all the files under "could not copy file to the requested location", and offers me a link to "save as"

I recently had my HD replaced with a SSD, and still using the HD as a secondary drive on which I have my catalogue.
I'm on a Mac with Lightroom 5.3 freshly installed. It worked neatly for a couple of days when importing either from my iPhone or my 6D (from the card reader). Suddenly it stopped doing that. I've been through all the discussions and I've tried the following steps:
- delete the preference file (and re-start Lightroom)
- re-install Lightroom
- create a new catalogue (won't work either)
- checked the permissions (as in the beginning, it would tell me that it can't read my files - but they worked perfectly!), which were fine
- cleared the "recently used" file paths of the import dialogue
- re-booted my Mac about a gazillion times
- updated the RAW software
- re-installed Lightroom again (but having deleted pretty much everything from the HD that was Lightroom related)
It just won't work. But before I re-installed Lightroom, it would still give me the "error: can't read files" sign. Now, it simply starts importing (the progress bar starts anyway) and then it just stops at one point, not having imported anything. Lightroom doesn't freeze, it just doesn't do anything and the progress bar stops. I wanted to attach a screenshot to show you what it looks like right now, but that didn't work either, so whatever.
Here's the thing: it still works in Lightroom 4. So now I've been importing into Lightroom 4 and adding the files without moving them to Lightroom 5. But what kind of workflow is that? It's literally killing me because I've paid money for the software and I was patient enough to go over all the trouble shooting, but I'm really out of wit.
I work with lightroom 4.1. When I import my pictures on the normal way. The import will nog finish anymore. After a long time my mac give a notice that he can/copy import the images. but there is a lot of space.

I shows all the 1,000s of photos in the top level folder but when I click the triangle, it turns on its side but it doesn't reveal the sub-folders (see screen grab, Samsung is the folder I'm trying to access).

Is there any way to stop this? I want all of the pictures to be copied to the directory I chose on the main and backup drives, it's a pain going to the backup and moving my pictures.
duplicate folders being created with Lightroom 4.3 on import?
When I import photos, they go to a folder with a name "XXX" for example.
The folder is in a hierarchy of "2013, March, XXX".
Lightroom creates a folder here and above 2013! It is making a mess of my library.
Also, when I import using Photo Mechanic (great software that just works!) and then do a "synchronize folder" in Lightroom, only 1 photo is transferred.
I am using Lightroom 4.4 on a 2013 Macbook Air OS 10.8.4.
I cannot see the Switch enables auto sync on the Metadata sync button. Its currently visible on another machine a MacPro with Lightroom v4.3. I find this useful to be bale quickly enable and disable the syncing of metadata. Has this been dropped in v4.4 or have I missed a prefs setting somewhere?
I am trying to adjust two D800 files simultaniously. Thus I select both images, toggle the Sync button to the Auto Sync state.
But, the adjustments done to the most selected image do not copy over to the other image, while this is the expected behaviour.

For example, let's say I have a file on a hard drive labeled 2012. Inside that file there are three folders with photos and they are labeled Phoenix, Seattle, Portland. Is there a way to Import these folders at one time and keep the names, or will they all come into Lightroom only as 2012?

My directory structure is:

etc.
When I import, Lightroom creates a duplicate "Lightroom" folder, which it places into the 2013 folder. Inside that folder it places a duplicate 2013-12 folder and inside that the photos.
Alternatively, it sometimes places the new folder (this time named "lightroom" [lower-case "l"] at the same directory level as the "Lightroom" folder.
how to change one of the entries in TranslatedStrings.txt in order to provide a different/custom destination folder naming scheme for importing.
This definitely worked in some previous versions (a while since I tried it) but in 4.1 it doesn't seem to work -- there is no such file in /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.app/Contents or in the en.lproj subfolder (which seems to be where the non English TranslatedStrings.txt files live).
I won't go into why I need to do this, suffice to say if I can't do it, I'm going to face a tedious process of importing a load of stuff year by year and choosing the destination base folder manually for each year. Which is do-able, it's just a big pain.

I use lightroom to manage my photos and videos, but the videos are much larger so I prefer they are stored in a different location.
I can import them together and drag the photos to a new folder, but this does not create the same folder heirarchy as importing them would.
Currently I import once for photos and onece for videos, but I'd prefer to just "import"
when i import all my photos from an external hard drive LR4.4 will not include all the sub folders and some folders .. there are about 38,000 photos and the size of all the photos is 350 GB

I've run into a problem straight away.I've tried to import raw avi files.So I'm using the "Select Import Source Folders" screen.When I navigate to the folder containing the files the OK button is greyed out and won't work.It's greyed out all of the time.
I had two 2013 folders, each with about 100 daily folders. The dates were differnt in each annual folder. I dragged one into the other. The folder where the daily folder was dragged from is now empty but those folders do not appear in the recieving folder. All the photos are still in the catalog, but do not show in the folders (left side panel).

I have 20.000 photos in this structure already imported by Bibble and before that Downloader Pro. I would like to do everything in one program, not have to use Downloader Pro every time I need to structure my photos.
The only way I have seen to do this in Lightroom 4 is to do multiple imports and that gets annoying! This is the biggest factor for me if I will continue with Bibble / Corel Aftershot or go for Lightroom.
I've been doing some game recordings with Nvidia's new ShadowPlay. The recording says it is done in "1080p @ 60 FPS with H.264". The recorder outputs into a .mp4 file. When I watch the raw footage, it is all properly synced. However, when I import it into Premiere, it is always out of sync without fail. I know very very little about the program, and have been trying to learn as I go, but I can't seem to figure out how to re-sync it. For now I've been having to cut the sound into parts and adjust the rates manually to get it to sync back up, but this is insanely tedious.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using LR3. I appear to be digging a massive hole for myself trying to sort out the catalog. When I first got LR, I had initially added just a small number of files just to see how LR worked. At this time I was still completing sorting out my full photo collection in 'my pictures' which were also copied to two external hard drives. Once that work was completed, I imported a complete folder (some 4000 images) into LR. The folder/subfolders appeared in the folders panel but the sub folders I had initially imported were displayed with a ? and a message 'file is missing or offline' Going down the road of 'find missing folder' eventually led to my problems.
About 6 sub folders are involved so I eventually took the decision that it could be easier just to remove them so I could then re-import them from 'my pictures'. That hasn't worked out as planned. When I go into 'file' to import photos from 'my pictures' the missing sub folders are there but the images are 'greyed' as well as the import button. When I put the cursor onto one of the greyed-out images the message 'appears to be a duplicate of another photo already in catalog' appears.

Each time I try to import, it goes through some number of photos, up through 2,00 plus sometimes and then says import failed and I get nothing. It claims the file is the wrong type (only jpgs and psds). I don't know what the stumbling block is or why elements doesn't jut ignore files it can't read and go on to the next.
