Lightroom :: 4.3 Corrupts RAW Images Stored On Local SSD Hard Disk

Mar 23, 2013

Using Lightroom 4.3 with Camera RAW 7.3 on latest MacBook Pro with 256 GB SSD harddisk, 8 GB internal memory bought 2 months ago. Hardware shows no other problems or malfunctioning, no issues with RAM or otherwise.

Started Lightroom 4.3 did an import from perfect images (viewed before using various other software packages) stored on the harddisk. Used option ADD to add to the catalog. Almost immediately certain images were showing missing areas or areas with pink/white stripes, etc.

I didn't even touch the images to view or edit them. The images were corrupted on disk as previewing them with other software packages showed.

Xara :: Error On Start - Unable To Store Info On Local Hard Disk

Feb 26, 2012

On start-up of Designer7 I now get the error message "Unable to store information on your local hard disk. The disk may be full, or read-only. Ok" as pretty well the last thing in the start-up process. On pressing Ok, the dialog clears and the program will run normally. Opening and saving files works just fine.

My discs (where the program is stored, where my user profile is stored, where the drawings are saved and when the temp files and Windows swap file arel orated ) have ample space and are not RO. I also ran a disc check and they're not corrupted or damaged.

No malware seems to be present (checked with a couple of different programs) but the only thing that's different is that we had a power cut while Xara was running. Since then, it keeps giving me this message.

I've just updated to the latest version and accepted the default settings and it still gives me the message.

Windows Vista 32 with Admin privileges.

Lightroom :: 5 Taking Up Local Disk Space While Publishing?

Mar 4, 2014

I have a relatively large photo catalog (200k photos +) that I am in the process of paring down with Lightroom 5.  Along the way I have kept certain groups of photos published to Flickr using Smart Photosets so that if I eliminate a duplicate photo from the catalog I will be able to "re-publish" and eliminate that duplicate from the published collection.

My Catalog Files, My Backups, and the actual image files that are referenced in the catalog are all located on an external drive.  I did this so that I could have everything on one drive for the time being while I eliminate a ton of photos from the catalog.

The issue that I am running into is that while a collection is being published to Flickr I get a message popping up telling me that I am low on disk space on my local (C) drive and that I need to free up some space.  This is odd because everything is located on the external drive (catalog and image files) and I am publishing to Flickr.

I am just trying to figure out if there is a default somewhere that is causing Lightroom to create new thumbnails or previews somewhere on my C drive while I am publishing images to Flickr or something like that.  What sort of data might be accumulating in the process here?  And is there anyway to move it all or eliminate it for the time being while I am finishing the elimination of duplicate files from my catalog?

Lightroom :: Move Folders Of Photos To Different Hard Disk?

Oct 15, 2013

LR 5.2 Windows 7 Pro

How do I move numerous folders and subfolders of photos to a different hard drive?

The hard drive I want to move to shows up in the LR Library Left Panel under Folders, but I can't drag and drop the photos from the C Drive to this D drive.

I have been working with LR for about a month; and I've uploaded about 2000 photos I have taken since about a year ago; organized by folders for year and date.    I just realized LR has been putting almost all my photos on my C Drive.    There is one folder of photos in LR on the D Drive.    I don't recall how I got that folder to go on the D Drive while the rest are on the C Drive.

I don't want any data on my C Drive.  I use my C Drive primarily for my Operating Systems and applications.

Lightroom :: Way To Delete Removed Photos From Hard Disk?

Aug 21, 2013

My wife and I have been using LR for a long time. We're currently on version 4. Unfortunately, she's not as tech-savvy or meticulous as I am, and she has been unknowingly "Removing" photos from the LR catalog when she really meant to delete them from the hard disk. That means we have hundreds of unwanted raw photo files floating around in our computer and no way to pick them out from the ones we want! As a very organized and space-conscious person, I can't stand the thought. So my question is, what is the most efficient way to permanently delete these unwanted photos from the hard disk

I did find to synchronize the parent folder with their respective catalogues, select all the photos in "Previous Import," and delete those, since they will be all of the photos that were previously removed from the catalogue.

This is a great suggestion, but it probably wouldn't work for all of my catalog since my file structure is organized by date (the default setting for LR). So, two catalogues will share the same "parent folder" in the sense that they both have photos from May 2013, but if I synchronize May 2013 with one, then it will get all the duds PLUS the photos that belong in the other catalog.

Lightroom :: Moving Photos From One Hard Disk To Another But Not Loosing Editing History On Photo

Nov 12, 2011

I have one hard disk filling up with photos, so I have purchased a secondary hard disk to expand my storage.  I would like to move my shoots from 2010 to that new hard disk, but I don't want to loose all of the edits saved on them in LR3.  I have experimented with moving non-important images that have edits on them, then re-importing them.  Unfortunately, LR3 does not preserve that history.

Lightroom :: Catalogs From Images Stored On DVDs?

Mar 5, 2013

I have hundreds of DVD disks that I want to Catalogue.  I import the files using just the ADD function into a newly created collection, yet once he DVD is ejected the files loose their path. I thought that files from external media did not have to exist on a hard drive to be catalogued.  I used Portfolio before this adventure into Lightroom and I had nop problem at all. I have studied  tutorials and the only discussion within these lessons is about files on connected hard drives or RAID systems.

Lightroom :: 4.4 - Local Adjustment Brush Not Local Anymore

May 5, 2013

My (previously wonderful) local adjustment brush has apparently quit working.  Whenever I attempt to make local adjustments - using either the standard presets or custom settings - all the adjustments made are applied to the entire image, not just locally.  Density and flow are set to my typical values and Show Selected Mask Overlay shows the extent of the applied effect, but whatever adjustment I make is applied generally, over the entire photo, rather than to the selected adjustment area.

Lightroom :: Delete Images From Disk

Oct 16, 2012

I have LR 4.2 on Windows 7 x64 (having recently upgraded from LR3).After flagging images in a collection as rejected I want to remove them from disk.In LR3 I just clicked Ctrl + Backspace and I had the option to delete from disk or just remove from catalogue, I don't get that option in LR4

worked fine in LR3. I've searched the preferences and can't see any option, I've also clicked "reset all dialogues" in case that was hiding the option but still nothing. I've tried in Library and Develop and no option still, I can only remove from catalog

Lightroom :: Finding Images Removed From Catalog But Not Deleted From Disk

Apr 28, 2013

I know that I have on occasion gotten stupid and selected "Remove" after marking images as rejected, when I meant to select Delete From Disk.  I believe this means I have image files on my hard drive that no longer appear in the Lightroom catalog, but I don't want them at all.  I meant to move them to the trash bin, but, like I said, just hit the wrong button for some reason.

Is there any way I can search for images still in my folders on my hard drive (where I save them when imported in Lightroom) that no longer appear in my catalog? I'd like to clean up my hard drive before transfering images to a new computer.

Photoshop :: Dedicated RAID 0 Hard Disk

May 18, 2009

I do video editing using Premier and After Effects, as well as digital painting and a tone of other graphical works in Photoshop and Flash and Illustrator...and Autodesk. My questions are about having a seperate hard drive set to RAID 0. I have the money to get a seperate hard drive (74GB 10,000rpm), and i was thinking about doing this. I know that RAID 0 is supposed to produce better preformance and such like, but i wanted to know what it could be used for in coallition with the programs i use on a daily basis, and weather or not it is really worth doing. 1. How do i format a hard disk to RAID 0?2. Is it ok to use a RAID 0 74GB, 10,000rpm hard disk along side another hard disk NTFS 500GB, 7200rpm?3. Does it have to be completely dedicated? Could i work it so that i have windows and applications installed on the RAID 0 hard disk, and use it as my primary scratch disk, and use the 500GB NTFS hard disk as data storage and secondary scratch disk? 4. Is there anything i should be awear of with this type of setup that are draw-backs?

Lightroom :: Why Won't Edited RAW Images Show After Re-install Onto New Hard Drive

Apr 3, 2012

Recently my hard drive took a (hike) and crashed - data may or may not be recoverable (Geeks are working on that), and I needed to reinstall my CS5 and Lightroom software to a new hard drive (I had to buy a new one). All of my RAW photos are stored on an external drive and were not harmed.  Here is my dilemma. Most of the presets I used also went crashing with that hard drive, (yes I believe they were backed up but also on that hard drive...stupid I know-trust me I know!!) but most of them were the free ones from the adobe recommended users on this site. I actually found many of my favorites still posted on the Adobe site and re-downloaded and installed the presets I'd been using the past year and a half, and imade sure those presets were housed properly in their folder via Preferences in Lightroom. Great. I can continue on with my work. WRONG! When I went to go import a recent shoot that I had already edited, it imported the RAW files but none of the previous edits I had worked on for these photos were showing up...it was as if I didn't even touch them and they came right from my camera. What in the world is going on? I'm baffled...and freaking out as I have thousands upon thousands of edited shoots in RAW, and I fear that none of the edits and enhancements made to those photos are going to be present and I'll have to start over. that all of my last 2 years of editing photos are still with the RAW files?!!!

I found a deal on a an HP Intell Core i7 processor) 2 TB hard drive tower, so I ended up needing to install the 64 bit versions of CS5 and Lightroom 3.6. I did test out the RAW (.NEF) file in Photoshop CS5 and my edited RAW image came up "correctly" - so I know that the information is still with the RAW image...I just need it to work and show in lightroom, as it is easier to export the files to the sizes I need them to be.
