Jun 3, 2013I'm here with 2013 SP2 64 bit Build 200 and two screens. Left screen is graphics area, Browser is on the left of right screen. Graphics is ATI Fire Pro V7800 with driver 9.3.3.3000.
In video (zipped MP4) you see a cutout of both screens, think of screens changing at the left of the browser.
Now, in many cases, after doing an operation, the browser is jumping back to the middle of my graphics in the left screen.

Oct 8, 2012Dialog boxes are appearing in various different places rather than a central location on the screen...
For example: the Save dialog appears half off screen towards the lower right section of the display. Various other boxes appear in the top left, upper right. All dialog boxes are moveable, so i can reposition them to the middle but the next time i used appear where they were, not centrally.
I work both on a 13" macook pro seperately and with and a 27" apple display attached. Dialog boxes are visiable on the 27" display but often in odd places.
Is there any way i can reset their position? I have tried reseting all dialogs, trashed the preferences in the preferences in the library folder on the computer but no luck. I am puzzled.

May 7, 2012I really loved the welcome screen as it made it working with illustrator a bit more efficient for me. For some reason I cannot seem to get this to come up. In CS 5 I think I could reactivate it in the help screen menu but its not in this version.

Jul 27, 2010I am using two screens and moving Illustrator to the larger screen from my laptop so that I can see things better. I am still using CS2. One day for reasons I still do not understand, my PDF dialog box disappeared. Illustrator thinks it is there, but the only thing I can do is escape out of it. I can't save a file as a PDF, and I need to do that on a regular basis. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling CS2, but it did not change anything.
How to retrieve a dialog box that has gone off the screens?
Illustrator :: Saving A PNG For BOTH Screen And Print
Jan 20, 2014I have a client who is requesting that their "image" be saved as a PNG at "715px X 915px at 72 dpi", and have it print with the text crisp and clear. I have tried to convince them to use a PDF instead to ensure that the print quality would be where they want it to be however they reject that idea.
1. They are requesting 72 dpi not ppi. There is a difference, one is screen one is print. You cant have both in my opinion. I have been using ppi, since that is the setting that illustrator and photoshop allows.
2. You also should not save anything for print at 72 ppi. That will not produce the best quality image regardless.
3. I have attempted several different ways to save this.
- I have saved it in illustrator as a png and mulitple resolutions.
- I have used my illustrator png and put in Photoshop and re saved it, after re sizing it. The dimensions in illustrator never seem to stay accurate.
- i have attempted to save it as a PDF and convert to PNG is acrobat.
None of these work. There is no issue getting it to look nice on screen, its the printing part that I am having an issue with. When I save it at anything higher then 72 it increases the dimensions. If I create it at anything higher then 72, the dimensions increase as well. I have not been able to keep it at 715px x 915 px and have it print clearly. They come back and tell me i need to decrease the size, or the text is too blurry.
How do I get this PNG to be 715px by 915px at a 72 ppi (or dpi) resolution look good on screen, and print with clear crisp text?

Jan 19, 2014I installed Mavericks and decided to update to Illustrator CC. It downloaded fine and when I went to launch it it opened up to the promo screen showcasing the new features like rounded corners and the segment editing tool etc. When I go to click the "Done" button Ai CC crashes. Nothing I do resolves this. So I ran uninstall and re-installed it and the same exact thing happens every single time.
A few points of fact:
- I have NO PLUGINS installed for Ai CC
- I do have Ai CS5 installed (Need this to access old art in my archive that is FreeHand format)
- I have Ai CS6 installed (Because most of my clients aren't on Ai CC yet)
- Photoshop CC works fine
- MUSE CC works fine
I uninstalled Ai CC again and the past two days had a MAC IT specialist come in and clean up my entire system to make sure it's in perfect condition before I downloaded and tried to install Ai CC again. My system hasn't been this fine tuned since I installed Mountain Lion, everything is working great.
I tried to install Ai CC again and the exact same thing happened it crashes at the promo screen. When I go and click the "Done" button the beach ball spins and the whole app goes down. Every single time with no exception.
Ai CS6 works fine, no problems at all.

The inane "Adobe Customer Care" on twitter isn't cutting it with their scripted responses that solve nothing and blame everything on the user.

Illustrator :: Get The Window Not To Open Full Screen?

Illustrator :: Print RGB Files Since They Are Closer To What Is On Screen?
Feb 13, 2014I have an important question about how to set up my files for print. In school I was taught to work in CMYK or at least convert whatever RGB file I'm working on to CMYK. I'm at work now and the files I am printing are coming out dull (in CMYK). I converted a file to RGB and assigned the RGB 1998 colour space and re printed it. The first CMYK print looked grey and was not vibrant. The new RGB print printed very vibrant and matched the screen colours better than the CMYK. My boss wants me to do the rest of the prints in RGB seeing as it prints with better vibrancy. Also, I am working in Illustrator.
So my question is: Can I convert all my CMYK files to RGB, send them to the printing company and expect the prints to be vibrant? Or will converting my CMYK files to RGB mess up the printing companies standards?
RGB prints better, but I was taught to always print in CMYK mode.
Actually I'm going to leave the files in CMYK since turning them into RGB may cause colour loss during the final large prints. I will print the presentation files in RGB though.
Illustrator :: Unremovable Rectangle Keeps Appearing On Screen
Aug 16, 2013On Mac, CS6, there is a rectangle that is always visible and I can't remove it.It appears even on every document and even if no documents are opened. It's static on screen and doesn't move with when moving the document.Maybe its a bug or an element from the GUI? Even a system restart doesn't fix it.

Illustrator :: JPG Places Huge At Screen Resolution?
Jul 26, 2013I have been using illustrator since 1988 and I am not sure why all of a sudden this is happening. I must have clicked the wrong box or something. I save a jpg from my psd file at 5 x 6 inches at 300 dpi. I place it into my letter sized page in illustrator CS5 and it comes out huge. I look at the bar at the top at it says its 72ppi.
Just earlier today, it place fine and viewed like a 300 dpi file. What did I mess up to make this happen all of a sudden.Why is it placing at 72 ppi?
I checked InDesign and it places fine.
I place the psd file and it places fine.
But the jpg places huge at screen resolution.
I understand the difference between print vs screen resolution.
Illustrator :: Placing Images (Screen Caps) For Callouts?

I'm placing screen captures (screen images from software) in my artwork files to add callouts and create illustrations for a user manual.
The machine I'm capturing on has a screen resolution set at 1920 x 1080 (required for software). I'm using Snagit and capturing the screens, saving files, then placing in Illustrator. I've been using images minimum 300 dpi and never upsizing in Illustrator. Still I think my results could be better.
In the past I've used .jpg as my export filetype for placing into Illustrator. But, recent reads of postings in this community lead me to believe my practice might be flawed.
Question: What is considered best practice for placing images from screen capture (or any source) in Illustrator? What file type from capture will get me the clearest and most adaptable results?
My Illustrator file color mode is CMYK and my other art and callouts supporting the screen cap are working great.
I'm creating the artwork for import to Framemaker and creating a PDF for online and print.

Jun 27, 2012I'm relatively new to Illustrator (I'm a fine artist not a graphics professional) and having some difficulty with preparing pdf files for screen printing positives.I passed some of my photos through Vector Magic anf got a 3 color vector pdf.I converted the colors to global spot cmyk.What I need to do is get each color onto a separate layer. I don't have a postscript printer and would like to have everything prepared before I take artwork to a print shop to get screen positives printed.For some reason when I go Select > Same > Fill color (and either cut to a new layer or select inverse and delete on a duplicated layer) I'm not getting everything showing up. It looks like the document needs to be flattened or something, though I have tried that with no effect.

Illustrator :: Screen Freezes And Fails To Update While Dragging?
Jan 2, 2014Just started a pen tool exercise in illustrator, at some point while using the pen tool I don't know why or how it happens but my screen stops "updating", "refreshing" or "drawing" while I drag it with the hand tool. What I mean is that if I start dragging with the hand, the rulers move as normal, but anything inside just stays a still picture and only when I release the mouse button is the screen changed to where I have dragged. Although the very edges of the artboard/workspace near the rulers behave normaly, I can see bits and pieces flying past there, but it's like there's this big square at the center of my screen that is a still image.
The problem is only inside Illustrator, the rest of my computer and screen behave normally.
I am using Windows XP SP 3, all updates 'n' stuff.

Apr 11, 2013When using the gradient mesh tool or paintbrush in Illustrator - the technique is not reflected ACCURATELY on the screen. For example when painting with a red brush - the screen shows a different color. Sometimes a different magnification will resolve the issue other times it will not.
Running MAC OS6 10.7.5 This is currently happening in Illustrator CS6 Illustrator 5.5 is also on the machine too.

Sep 26, 2013I got a shape locked on the screen and can't unlock it.It is just a rectangle with 2 rounded corners. It has a strange shadow... I don't recall doing that shape ever, I was switching among Illustrator and Photoshop and in a second it just appeared.I tried many alternatives but still can't get rid off it. Dec 16, 2012Since upgrading to a new iMac, I see a flickering square at the cursor, when editing a path using pencil tool and Wacom tablet. Specifically, it appears when holding "Cmd" and selecting a path or "Option" dragging along a path to simplify the path. I captured a screen video and to my surprise, the square did not appear. In it's place is either a red or black circle. I am guessing these circles are part of the AI interface that I do not see on screen. I have not found any preference or documentation about them. Review this video. You'll see the circle, but not the flickering square I see on my screen.

Illustrator :: Cannot Make Readable PDF Separation (Screen Printing)
Mar 16, 2014I am unable to save .pdf versions of color separations. I followed the tutorials (changed all colors to cmyk or spot colors, selected the printer adobe post script, changed the output to Separations (host-based), desected the colors I didn't want on the separations), but something goes wrong when I save. When I click save, I am given no option to save the separation as a .pdf. The program seems to be unable to save the separation as any sort of readable file. In the drop down box where it should provide a .pdf option, it merely says "All Files." If I save my separation using this option, then Illustrator creates a file unreadable by Acrobat Reader.
