Illustrator :: Correct Way To Open PDF In AI?

I created a design for a window cling using InDesign and submitted it to the printer as a cmyk PDF. The vendor is now requesting an ai file. Illustrator is outside my skill set, but I do have it as part of CS6. I opened the PDF in Illustrator and did Ctrl+Y to confirm that it was entirely vector, and it is. Is there any problem with simply saving it as a .ai? Or is there a better way to go about it? The file will not need to be edited in Illustrator.

I'm trying to create a swatch in Illustrator with our company's colors. I already succeedid in creating a palet with the RGB and CMYK colors, but I also want to do this with the PMS colors.However, I can't seem to find the correct color book in which to locate the correct PMS color.
I only have the number of the PMS color, I don't know which color book to choose?

So i created a new project in Illus. CS5 with an artboard size of 700x150 pixels. I have two graphics in there that are about 215 pixels tall so part of it flies off the artboard, but i have a clipping part that hides all the parts that i dont want to see.
The problem is when i go to Save for Web, the ouput image is 700x215 because it includes the space used by the graphics, that fly off the board, but you dont even see it. I was able to get around this by opening the file in photoshop and then cropping to 700x150 so the extra space is removed, but there should be a way to save this in Illus. without the hassel.

I take a number of cemetery headstone photos and in trying to keep my shadow off the headstone, I stand to the side and the image usually gets distorted. I have Photoshop Elements 11. I'm sure there is a good way to do it. I tried Filter, Correct Camera Distortion but end up with a worse distortion than when I started.
I was hoping to attach an example photo but can't figure out how to. I just get a black screen when I click on "insert image" icon. how do I attach a photo to a discussion question and second how do I improve my photo image?

I am current CC subscriber and love all the different programs and the capabilities that come along with it. How to scale my artwork. For example, I have designed my business logo at 220 x 220 pixels. When I export it as a jpeg file to upload into my SharePoint team site and resize it, the quality diminishes considerably. Sharepoint recommends uploading a picture that is approximately 60 x 60 pixels. how do I take my 220 x 220 artwork and make it so that when I export it, it is 60 x 60 pixels?

I am sizing illustrator artwork to be specific pixel dimensions (ex: 294 x 76 px). I slice by "making" slice (object/slice/make). I then export by saving for web & devices. When I then preview the artwork I see the file size is 295 x 77px the wrong size by one pixel. all artwork is expanded prior to being sliced so there are no drop-shadows or effects messing with the slices sizing.

My workplace works with both Digital and Print work and I wanted to know if how we're adding Pantone swatches is correct.
I'm using CS6 and I open the Pantone+ Swatchbook and add the Swatch from there. The Swatch is in the LAB Colour mode and I have "Use Lab values..." selected in the Spot Color Options Dialog.
My colleague, using CS5, opens her Swatches panel and selects New Swatch > inputs the CMYK Colour values from the Pantone+ printed book > selects Spot Color from the drop-down.
We're both working on the same documents, so when I open up her file, her colours look off to me. Specifically, Pantone 497 C - my brown is looking a red compared to her brown which is darker. When I open up my Swatch and change my Colour mode to CMYK, the values are completely different.
We'd like to understand which one of us is doing it wrong and which way we should go to streamline the colours to ensure that we're using the correct Pantone?

I am currently working in a Illustrator file that is 10% of the final print size. This is because the final size is 8,9 x 5,8 meters (15 x 7 times A1). It is therefor all my sizes have to be the EXACT size. Any flaws in sizes will be 10x as big on the final print.
So I am creating 15 x 7 A1 rectangles in my composition of 891 x 588,7 millimeters. 10% of a A1 should be 84,1x59,4mm. However, when I create a rectangle by this very size, Illustrator automatically changes it to 83,961 x 59,267 millimeters. This will result in a 5 pixel blank space on the 15 side, which means 50 pixels on the final size. I, but especially my boss ( -_-' ) would like this to be 0 pixels.
How to fix this auto correction? I think it will have something to do with the millimeters to pixel correction.

using illustrator cc, on a series of illustrations, i am placing an ai file with my color pallette into all of my files (if i update the pallate, all files will have the corrected version). when i place the pallette file, the cmyk values are slightly off. all files are cmyk. seems like a bug, reminds me of placing illustrator into photoshop, and colors values would be ever so slightly off.

I would like to export some GUI elements as PNGs for an iPhone application and encountered the following problem:
What I did:
1. The developer gave me an hex code with that I should produce the GUI elements
2. I set the color in illustrator and exported the GUI elements as PNGs
3. The developer imported them and we noted a difference in color between my GUI PNGs and the color of a background element set in the ios app via the same hex code.
I work on:
- MacBook Retina
- Illustrator document color mode is and was always RGB
- I experimented with color profile settings in Illustrator and Mac System Preferences but don't really know what the settings mean and dont have good feeling playing arround with them

Working in CS5.I have a vector image that I need to resize and save as a .png. I first create an artboard to the correct size I need (55x20 pixels), shrink my vector image to fit and then export to .png using the artboard as my boundaries (so that I get the correct size).Problem is, the resulting file is not 55x20, it is 229x83 (when I open in Photoshop). I can't figure out why the file is not saving to the correct size.
I have also tried opening the file in photoshop and resizing down, but that doesn't work either. My image becomes very distorted.I don't generally work in pixels or pngs...what would be the best program and process to do this. It doesn't seem like it should be so difficult, but for some reason it is!

Here is cylinder made of rectangle using 3d Revolve effect.I want to change perspective of this cylinder like the red lines show, but it goes a bit to the left. I need exactly to the front. I think this is because perspective based on the center of rectangle (in the green circle) not on the center of cylinder. Is it possible to move the center of rectangle? If not, is any other decisions how to make what I want?

The background is a gradient mesh(ignore the crosses). I used eyedropper tool(shift-click/normal-click both gave the same result) on the background and it gave me a strange result. As you see the back ground is blue-to-black gradation but the color picked is green-ish from nowhere.

I have a designer that created this beautiful (but complicated) design in illustrator and now we're trying to get it exported to html. The thing is, most of the images that are in tds we want to be background images so that we can put stuff on top of it. So we need the exported html to generate the image size correctly. For example, I don't want
<img src="someimage.jpg" width="100" height="100"...
but
<img src="someimage.jpg">
The problem is that illustrator for whatever reason is generating the images slightly too small (I guess to make the image size smaller?), then is stretching them using width and height attributes. As I'm sure you guys are aware of, the background attribute has no way of specifying a width and height.

I'm working with both Photoshop and Illustrator CS6 on a mac. I'm creating a graphic. The background is a (cartoonish) mouth and I finished it a couple of days ago. (It's an Illustrator file.) I've been working on the letters to go inside of the mouth, (Once I'm finished it'll look as though they're being crushed.) I scanned and edited small wooden letters in Photoshop, and now I would like to work with them with the background in Illustrator. I understand how to open a Photoshop file in Illustrator, but I don't want to open the document as a separate Illustrator file. Is there a way to open a file from Photoshop as a second layer?
Some of the letters repeat as well. Will I have to create two files for this, or can I open the same file twice?

I'm having a problem throught CS6 with the Open, Save, or Save As dialog boxes not opening for a period of time after clicking on the desired functions. It can take over a minute just to get the Open dialog box up to browse for a file. Eventually, the dialog boxes open, but during the time that it's trying to open, the program is unresponsive. It is happening with all of my CS6 programs. I have unistalled and reinstalled with no fix. The programs are updated.

I suddely cannot open Illustrator CS6 on my imac. The message says something to the effect that I should check with the software developers to make sure it works with this version of OS X and that a reinstall may be necessary.

I have had a problem recently of large EPS files not opening in CS3 on my new work PC.
The following error comes up when I try and open the file:
"Can't open the Illustration. Could not complete the requested operation."
When I click Okay, I'm greeted with either a completely blank page, or a page where some elements are missing - usually embedded images, which are presumably what's causing the problem.
Before you ask, I've tried the following:
Placing the unlinked EPS into a new document - no love.Placing the EPS in InDesign and exporting - I just get a blank, grey image and a file that won't open.Opening the EPS in Acrobat - again, no love. If I PLACE the file in a new document as a LINK, I get a preview image - it's when I try to embed it that it fails.
Now, I'm not after a way to fix my file, because I know it's corrupted and probably can't be saved. What I would like to know is why it keeps happening and how can I stop it?
I've noticed that it happens mainly when I place large image files into a document. I've also noticed, after some testing to try and find a fix, that if I save as an AI file, it opens fine, large images and all.
I need to save EPS files so that the files can be opened in other applications. Unfortunately, not everybody has Illustrator.
My computer is BRAND NEW and it can't simply be a memory issue because I have 8gb of RAM. Full specs are listed below.
especially given it never used to happen on my OLD work PC, with the exact same version of Illustrator.

According to Illustrators documentation it should be possible to open CGM files. I get a message: "The filter cannot complete becuase of an unknown error." There is a filter for this, located in plug-ins - Illustrator formats. (Reader for CGM.smrd).
Have tried to place, and also reset Illustrator prefs files.
Is there any special "tricks" here for opening CGM in Illustrator? Or is it just not working?
Alternative, any good 3rd part plugin or separate software for converting CGM to PDF on Mac OSX?

This problem just started recently on my PhotoShop 7.
Whenever I try to open an EPS file that was created in Illustrator or Freehand (or any other EPS that is not a Photoshop EPS), it opens up as a blank document, like a transparent layer.
I tried everything and looked everywhere but without success.

Everything is working fine with opening .psd files in photoshop. Everything was fine a few days ago opening .ai files with Illustrator. Now I can't open any .ai files most of the time. My computer will start up Illustrator but no file will load. Occasionally, the files I tried to open will all open and load at once after a reboot. But after the reboot, the files will not open again. I uninstalled Illustrator and reinstalled, however, this has not fixed the problem. I'm also having trouble exiting out of Illustrator, it won't let me close the program at times. I'm using a Macbook Pro with the Lion OS.

I've tried everything I can think of, I've reinstalled twice, deleted preferences, removed problematic fonts, installed patches, restarted my computer 3 times... and it just worked yesterday morning. Illustrator will open up fine, but if I try to open anything it freezes up, whether I drag it over the icon, double click, file/open... whichever. I can create a new document, but it freezes if I save it. I know there are a ton of different problems it could potentially be, but I don't know what else you'd need to know to figure out what.. have work to get done for a huge trade show that is fastly approaching. Can Illustrator CS4 open files created in CS6? or can CS6 files be converted to be opened in CS4? like CS6 InDesign can be saved in IDML files to be opened in previous versions. Or if there is any other work around ways, like save CS6 files in PDFs/eps/... so the files can be opened in CS4 and work from there.

I received a .eps file (actually two of them) and cannot open it. I tried two different macs (Tiger & Leopard). Tried Illustrator CS 2, 3, 4, & 5. Tried Distiller and preview. Tried to import to InDesign, Illustrator & Quark. I keep getting "The file is in an unknown format and cannot be opened.
Emailed it to a friend who opened it immediately (Leopard & CS5), saved and returned a working file. I can't keep emailing people to open my files for me.
