With an object selected, I double click the black selection arrow and key-in a value, whether it's positive or negative the object moves opposite of what it should. (-1mm keyed in, object moves 1mm up). Is this a bug in CS6, or some kind of setting?
View 9 RepliesSo, I just installed Illustrator CC, which I now have on a trial license. About an hour ago, illustrator suddenly started refusing to move any objects while I'm in the Selection Tool. I can move the objects only in Free Transform. I use hot keys a lot, so it's really slowing me down. I hit "V" to click on and then move an object, and then it won't move. I get the error sound, but no dialogue box pops up to explain what the error is.
Since I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and start paying a hefty monthly fee for this program when my trial runs out, this is pretty aggravating.
I created a carpet and decorated it with symbols. When I tried to place it in the perspective grid with the perspective tool, it wouldn't move. I can move it fine with the selection tool and there's a bounding box but nothing happens when I use the perspective selection tool.

When I click on the box and move the pointer the entire box and image move. This was working OK until about 5 hours ago.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis morning, my Selection Tool (the filled-in arrow) is acting like a Direct Selection Tool (the hollow arrow), but only when I click and drag on a group. It ends up select the anchors within the group rather than the whole group itself.
I've checked my preferences, quit and relaunched Illustrator a few times, and nothing seems to fix it. The problem briefly went away a few minutes ago, but came back when I quit and relaunched for good measure.
It's happening in Illustrator CS 5.1. I have CS6, and that version works fine, but I'm waiting on some plugins to be updated for it, so I'd like to use CS 5.1. I'm also running the latest Suitcase Fusion 4.
I choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEver since CS5, the move function has operated normally in the horizontal direction but backwards in the vertical direction. In other words, entering a positive value moves objects down, entering a negative value moves them up.
At first I thought this was a bug, but it has continued in CS6 and CC on every computer we have. Yes I'm getting used to it but it's opposite of every other software package we have or have ever had, including Illustrator up to CS5.
I can't find a user control to correct this. Is there a way to do it?
Using the selection tool i should be able tp reduce or shrink the size of the box or an image as a whole without changing the format. Iam not able to do that. I think i disabled something in my illustrator.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden in the last two weeks I can no longer move my selection tool with my mouse. It will only move with the arrow keys. Also, I am unable to deselect by clicking the mouse, only by Ctrl+D or selecting another tool. I have not changed anything with my system in 5 months.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started with a tif image that's a black & white drawing and used the fill tool to fill in some black areas that were supposed to be solid, but weren't. I also did a lot of cutting to get rid of specks on the image. It looked fine when I closed and saved it, but when I went to convert it to a PDF, all my tif's have a black background and white lettering--should be just the opposite. I have gone into the images and they all look that way (apart from the PDF). I'm guessing this is a layer issue, but I'm new to this program and can't figure out what I did wrong and how to fix it. I really don't want to start over. So, to restate, everything that should be black is white and all that should be white is black.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am a new user to paint.net, because the tool I used for complex image manipulation does not run on the OS of my new machine. Although I could easily purchase the newest version, I needed work on some pictures now. Paint.net was easily available and does most of the thins I need at the moment. In addition, it is officially supported at my work place, so it's a good idea to learn how to use it.
Paint.net has some great features and a cute UI, but there are some issues I would like to see improved. The one at the top of my list is the font preview. I am doing some text on a number of pictures and want to check out some fonts. Unfortunately I can't change the sample text in the font list (at least I do not know how).
However, meanwhile I found a even better function (actually the way I would like to see it). When the font list is open, I can scroll through the list and the text will instantly updated. Cool.
Great thing would be to move the color picker out from the tool box into the color selection, so that it would be always available. Also it would be useful to not only pick one pixel sometimes but the average of a greater area.
While using the 3D extrude and bevel tool, specifically the isometric preset from the position drop down menu. I am noticing that when I expand the shape (in this case a perfect cube), the vertical paths are not exactly perfect, and are not truly vertical, but off slightly. Is this something that can be fixed or adjusted in the settings, or is this how the tool works?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use the Selection/Move tool a lot in Illustrator, but this never happened in CS3 or CS4: If I select a mark or a shape to move a specific amount, click on the Selection arrow to specify the distance, using a minus sign if I want the object to move down-screen, when I click on OK, the object moves up-screen. Is this the new, improved, Illustrator? I mean, all right, I can get used to changes in conventions, but isn't this sort of an unlikely change? Aren't there other improvements to be made in the app? Is it me, or is it Illustrator?

Essentially, when I use the selection tool, it will drag the selection box around with me until the pen stops hovering. So I click down, it starts to drag a selection box, I remove the pen and it keeps dragging.

If I have a rectangle shape on my screen selected, the hash marks that are normally in the middle are no longer there, also at the edges of the rectangle the selection tool doesn't change over to the rotate tool. My selection tool also has a small black square at the bottom right of it that I haven't noticed before. I have no clue how I got into this mode, preferably without resetting all of my preferences,

View 2 Replies View RelatedNoramlly in CS5 and any other version of Photoshop or Illustrator that I know of, if you click a point in an object, it will show the handles for transforming the line. As I'm creating something today, it works for a while and then stops. Yesterday I had the same problem. I drew a few things and then suddenly, the Direct Select Tool is not showing any transform handles.
I can get them to show if I can click and drag a box over the point, but this is slow and doesn't work well for layered art. I already tried resetting my illustrator preferences.
Also, in CS5 there's a simple icon that you can click to convert the currently selected point from a curved point to an angled point. Is there not such a thing in CS2?
I have been working on a project in illustrator and all of a sudden, I couldnt use the selection tool to rotate and manipulate objects anymore. The arrows don't even show up to make that sort of action. Is there some way that I accidentally turned off the tool? If so, how do I turn it back on so I can work with it the way it was before?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI frequently used the ctrl key shortcut in illustrator on a PC to temporarily use the selection tool last used. This still works in CC, but I used to be able to toggle selection tools by keeping ctrl held down as before and then toggle selection tools (selection tool - black arrow, and direct selection tool - white arrow) by tapping the shift key. The tool description in the very bottom of the window shows "toggle selection" when I do this, but the toggle selection tool doesn't actually occur.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been working with the perseptive tool for a couple of hours now. I've watched 3 or 4 videos, and read writting directions but I can't for the lift of me figure out what's going on. I am using the perspective grid and selection tool. I can get my objects onto the left plane only. When I try to select for the right plain (2) or the horizontal grid (3) it keeps moving my shape back onto the left plane. I've tried using the icon to select the areas and I have tried using keyboard shortcuts. What am I doing wrong?
