I just went through the tutorial on making an image transparent. It says that it should be saved as png most of the time. It also states that smaller images may not work. I am trying to make a symbol for my clan in a online game. The symbol is 32x32 and must be either in bmp or tga file..I have tried and seem to be coming up short here.

Photoshop :: Saving Extracted Image With Transparent Background

Feb 27, 2006

Is it possible to save an extracted image as a JPEG file with transparent background? I would like to use the following image of a Christmas ornament without the white background.

Using Photoshop 7 and the magnetic lasso, I had no problem extracting the original image from a white background. I then open a new transparent canvas and copy the extracted image to this canvas. However when I choose to save as a JPEG image, I'm back with the white background. I see in the Matte menu I can choose other backgrounds, e.g. black, grey, etc.. But is there any way to save the extracted pixels without any background.

The reason I ask is that I want to use this extracted image in PrintShop, a card making program. I would like to be able to insert the image of the Christmas ornament without any background. Very often in creating a card you've already created a colored background. It would be nice to be able to insert the ornament without the rectangular white background.

Paint.NET :: Saving Text As Image With Transparent Background

Feb 2, 2011

I am trying to save text as an image.

I've typed in the text in the color that I want. I've clicked on the magic wand, clicked on the white space and I get the checkered background. But it also covers my text and then when I try to use the saved image, it's all completely transparent.

How do I do this so that the text shows up, but the background remains transparent?

I want to point out I am currently exporting my image by going to File>Export>.PNG>(72PPI+Transparent).The issue im running into is; for example when I am exporting text, I am also exporting a certain amount of area around my image. How can I export the exact outline of my image?

When I wanted to use my text image for a website I was building I noticed I couldn't get the image to center. I opened the image in paint and noticed I was exporting the area around my image as well and not just the image itself.

I would like to export the text outline only. As you can see in paint I am exporting a fixed area around my image.

Illustrator :: 3D Image Appears To Be Partially Transparent?

Aug 22, 2012

I've built a 3D cylinder shape in Illlustrator and have applied plastic shading. Looks OK in Illustrator, but when imported into InDesign or opened in Photoshop, it appears to be partially transparent AND what looked to be smooth shading in Illustrator appears as a strange pattern in PS and InD, etc. We're getting close to final and this will be printing as it's a logomark. Is there something I'm missing that would make this shape a solid shape (instead of appearring to be transparent) and reproduce well? I just want it to look in PS and InD (and on paper) the way it looks in Illustrator.

Illustrator :: How To Exclude Transparent Areas In Image Trace

May 9, 2012

I have a logo file, saved as PNG, that is black on transparent.  Very simple file, just stylized black lettering on a transparent background. In Illustrator CS5, I can place that file, do a "Live Trace" in "Lettering" mode, and Illustrator will correctly ignore the transparent areas when I expand the trace.  After expanding, I'm left with scalable paths and an easy way to change the fill color to have the logo work with my background.

Fast forward to Illustrator CS6.  I try to do the same thing but a) there is no "lettering" preset for Image Trace and b) there is no setting I have yet found to cause Illustrator to ignore the transparent areas when I expand.  If I then fill, everything inside the bounds of the placed image (the square containing the logo) is filled with that color.  The only way I've found to get similar results is to go through the layers panel after the Expand and deselect each piece of the image that should not be filled.  I have a hard time believing this is the desired approach.

Illustrator :: Transparent PSD Image / Changes Color Of Vector Background After Print

Jan 11, 2013

URL....I have a green vector background in illustrator and then I placed psd image over it and created PDF for press and under Color bitmap images I selected no compression. After viewing image in Acrobat all seems ok, I even checked with picker, but after I send this to printer (xerox in thsi case) I end up with this: Both .psd and .ai are in CMYK color space. For this particular case I could use mask to cover up that transparent space but my original project has shadows which I cannot mask by vector :S.

how to set color profiles or whatever is neccessary to avoid this issue. One thing I was using was, opening PDF in Photoshop and flatening all. Problem is that sometimes I need vector files and cut lines for cutter. Don't want to have bitmap, if I can have a vector? Also when I flaten image I do get same CMYK values in photoshop (with picker) than I have in Illustrator on vector object, but when I print this they don't match at all.

Photoshop :: Saving As Transparent PNG

May 19, 2008

I'm using photoshop 7. If I save for web and save as PNG and preserve transparency, it seems to be showing up on forums as transparent for some of the people, but I still see a white box behind my siggy on colored pages. I'm also seeing the white background on all of the buttons on the forum, and the creator of the forum saved them all as PNG and she sees no white. Does this have something to do with the version of IE I'm running (which I'm pretty sure is 6)?? I've asked several other windows users on the forum if they see the white background and they say no! I see it on all 3 of my computers.

Photoshop :: Saving Transparent Tga Files

Aug 8, 2009

I've been using Photoshop 7.0 for awhile now. I haven't upgraded to any other version yet because the original 7.0 actually has a certain bug in it that has been very useful. The bug has something to do with transparency, alpha channels, and TGA files. Somehow this bug lets me save transparent TGA files without creating an alpha channel. All I have to do is save the image as 32 bit and it will come out exactly how I made it. No white backgrounds, just smooth transparent edges. Its easy since I don't have to waste time manually painting a black/white map. I'm wondering if theres a way to do this in the newer versions, but after trying the demos it seems like there isn't.  I don't know much about alpha channels, but I make dozens of TGA images with clear backgrounds so I really hope there is an easier way around this. To have to manually color the clear/solid areas with a paintbrush and lasso for each image seems like a nightmare. I wanted to get CS4 but I think it would be easier to just stick with this old version for this reason.

GIMP :: GIF Won't Maintain Transparent Background After Saving

Feb 18, 2013

I'm making a .Gif with transparent background. I've added an alpha channel on all layers and erased background I don't want to move in all layers except the last one. I've set it to combine the layers in the "Save As" pop-up, dithered the image (positioned,) and enabled dithering of transparent while converting to index. Looks fine in Gimp, but after I save it, the alpha layer saves as solid black instead of staying transparent to show the first layer's background. I would like to stay positioned indexed instead of automatically as it keeps the integrity of the image better. Is there a step I missed in keeping the layer's transparent after saving?

Photoshop :: CS4 - Saving PNG With Transparent Background And Blend Mode?

Apr 10, 2013

I have a logo that I want to layer on top of a background image that will together act as the header for the webpage.

The easy thing to do would be to create an image on photoshop layering the background image and the logo, with the logo blend effect, and then save and upload. Problem is that I want the background image to resize with the browser window - without resizing the logo.

Therefore, I figured I could save the background image and logo files separately, and then layer them using HTML and CSS. For it to look comparable therefore, I want to keep the background of the logo transparent. I would also like to set the blend mode of the logo to linear dodge (add) - so that whatever size the background image is scaled to, the logo remains the same size, with the same blend mode. The problem is that when I save the logo as a transparent png file (24-bit), it is not maintaining the blend mode.

GIMP :: Overlay Portion Of Image With Faded Map With Non-transparent Part Of Second Image

Apr 4, 2012

I have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.

I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).

Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.

So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).

I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).

And then my problem:

I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).

Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.

Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.

Photoshop :: Transparent Image (GIF/PNG)

I'm using Photoshop 6, I use the save as web image thing, and I can't get a proper setting for a .gif export (they all look like crap, the drop shadow defaults to a flat black color). So I tried a PNG 24, and it keeps the drop shadow looking nice, but it adds a background color in place of the transparency.

When I use the clone tool(opacity 100, hardness 100)  and try to clone the semi-transparent background onto the white inscriptions, the cloned background seems to be more opaque and the words are slightly showing through. If I do it a couple times over on a single word (like I did with "BROWSING TIPS") than I manage to cover the word up completely but the grey looks even more opaque.
