Illustrator :: Paste A Shape Into Text Field

I am trying to do a quite simple thing in Illustrator that I used to know. But, I forgot how to realise it. Back in the days, on Illustrator CS2, I was able to paste a shape/brush/symbol (one of these) into a text field using the Type on a path tool. What I want to achieve is that I got a shape that I would like to use as a character so that I could paste it on a circle stroke. I don't want to use the brush to use the shape/brush as a stroke color because then the shape won't rotate to fit the circle correctly. The only way I am able to get the result I want for now is using the Rotation tool by putting the shape's rotation axis on the middle of a background circle's axis but this is pretty approximate as a method.

I know that I can use a clipping mask, but I prefer not to have the extra shape of a clipping mask. I've tried all of the Pathfinder commands and those don't work. The Shape Builder tool is tedious for this. An example is the circle with lines extending past the circle in the illustration below. Is there an easy way to delete just the portions of the lines that extend past the circle and leave those inside the circle?

In the past day I have run into a problem whenever I copy and paste any text inside Illustartor CS6. If I copy text from outside Illustator and paste in a file, everything is ok. But if I copy text from inside an AI file and paste into another AI file or to the same file, I get a bunch of extra text that gets displayed before the pasted text. In the example below I copied and pasted the text "This is a test" within the same AI file, and got the a bunch of information above the text.

Illustrator CS6. Is there a script that inputs in a text field the width and height of an object. I do proofs and for a printing company and we always have to write the size of the artwork for the customer to approve. It's easy to do, but when you do 100's a week, it gets old and annoying. I do scale the image down to be visible on 11x8.5. I would think if there is a way to input the size of artwork, there would have to be a way to write the script so it can multiply the scaled down artwork for proofs to the actual W and H of the object. If the art is 13"W x 20"H and I put it on the proof at 10%, I want the script to input in a text field the 13"W x 20"H.

I have a layer with some paths and lines of text. I copied some of the paths and text and tried to paste in another layer or document; the paths are not pasted and all the text becomes a single line. When I copied only the paths, it is pasted correctly. If I copied only the text and tried to paste in another layer or document, all the text becomes a single line.
If I drag the selection from one layer to another using the panel, it works. If I drag the selection from the artboard to another document, it works. But these operations sometimes are not convenient. What I would like is to copy the items, target a layer in another document and paste there. With a large document with dozens of layers and a lot of text the drag and drop solution is not feasible.

According to adobe, Illustrator CS4, CS5 have the unicode font support for asian languages. but when i pasted the text in CS4 , it shows junk characters. I applied unicode font(Vrinda) my target langugae.
What are the details to paste the text in unicode.

When I copy some text from one part of a layout to another, it retains the font settings of the original text. How can I have the text just be text and take on the format of the paragraph I'm pasting into?
For instance, I copy some words into a headline, I don't want them to be 12 pt Times, so I have to re-apply the formatting.
Currently I paste into an external text editor and copy again so that it is just text without formatting. Is there a way to do this in Illustrator?

Illustrator CS5.5 on Mac: When I copy text from one Illustrator document and paste it in a different document, the text canges to Myriad (the deafult font). Is there a setting somewhere to preserve the formatting? Even pasting into an existing text style still changes the font.

If I copy object and text at the same time, it will only paste the text and the object is disappear, but it's no problem if I copy them separately. Besides, If I copy multiple text objects, they will be combined to 1 text object and the font will be changed when I paste.

When I copied text over from Photoshop to illustrator it kept the text formatting. For example the font, font size, color. Now when I use CC and copy paste text from PS to AI, all text formatting is lost and everything is placed as whatever the current AI text setting is.
HOWEVER, pasting from AI to PS WORKS as it should. All font/text formatting is maintained. Is this a bug or is there a setting for this that I just never knew about?

We are having problems with text in Illustrator CS6.
1. When we copy / paste text within illustrator all color information is lost.
2. When we save documents in Illustrator CS6 then re-open text with color attributes changes to different random colors!!
For example: If we save an Illustrator document with a paragraph of text that is part red and part black when we re-open the same paragraph might be all gray, or orange or (you pick a color).

I am trying to create cut-out text from a shape.
I would like the shape to look like an enlarged outline of the text, I have done this by creating outlines of the text, clicking on off-set path which has created my desired effect.
I would then like to cut out my original text from this off-set path using the pathfinder tool but it does not let me do this.
This is the desired effect that I would like.

I have designed a C# application to To Print I Cards Of School. Here I am sending data from my application to a CDR FILE (Already Created ) Which Contains ADDRESS Text Field..Now I Need to Print Address(which contains 60 characters or more) on this Text field .

is there a way to mask text with a shape (ie text inside a square that gets clipped off if it goes off the square's boundry) without rasterization? All illustrator seems to want to do is to make a clipping mask the opposite way with the square being put inside the text. When I try to do it the other way it claims that is too complicated and will mess things up.

I'm trying to find a way to fit a text inside a shape and to align it exactly to the shape borders, I was trying to play with the justification panel under the paragraph link but couldn't make it work,
I was trying to fit my text inside a shape look like the number 7 so eventually when a viewer see it they can recognize the number 7 without a stroke - only by the text insize the shape, above is an example of what happe when I try the same with a circular shape - I would like the test to fit in nicely filling the entire circle.

Sometimes I have to subtract some outlined text from a larger shape. Usually I just select the shape, and the text group, and execute a compound path. Works fine.
Occasionally, this method is not so convenient If I need to knock out additional outlined text into an object that has already been compounded with some other elements. For this, I use the Shape Tool, minus-ing out the additional text,
What I've noticed is that as I do this, the process gets slower and slower as each path is minus'd out with the Shape Tool. Eventually it can take as long a minute or more to remove more areas. Then I discovered something. I uncompounded the final result to discover that the Shape Tool creates hundreds and hundreds of duplicate paths. And very specific duplicates at that. Here is what I discovered:
I can only draw the conclusion that there is something seriously wrong with this tool. Surely all those extra path copies hidden within the resulting compound path can't be right.

I have tried the offset path, however it gets too large. I am looking to keep things simple but need a bit more definition that just a simple outline will give. On this particular image I am looking to create an outline or fill shape behind the words and pistol but wanting to keep roughly the same shape.

How can I convert the shape of textbox to rectanglebox and fill any desired color into it? Can any API do so?
Here are steps that I follow in illustrator to convert the shape.
1. Create a textframe.
2. Select, choose "effect->convert to shape" menu-item.
3. Create a new fill from Appearence palette(Window->Appearance).
4. Fill the desired color from color palette(Window->Color).
I want to obtain the same result using API.

I have 2 layers, a text layer on top, and a shape behind it. When I add a drop shadow to the text, the shadow shows up BEHIND the shape, instead of on it. If I choose mode "Multiply," then it shows up in front but is way too big.

the regular copy/paste commands aren't working and it needs to be in the same layer so Duplicate Layer won't do it...

I just read a tutorial, in which a shape is copied from Illustrator and then pasted as a path into Photoshop.I tried the same thing with Xara (Xtreme Pro 4) and all it pastes is a bitmap, not even transparent.Is there any way, I could get this to work?
What I want to do, is create shapes in Xara and then convert them to Photoshop Custom Shapes in Vector (!) Format.If it does not work in XX4, is it possible with newer versions?

Is it possible to create a field that will show only a portion of the contents within an text object? Maybe using diesel or something?
Example:
There is a text object that contains "FIRST TEST", is it possible to create a field from that object that contains the first 5 letters of the text "FIRST". If the original text was changed to "SECOND TEST" the field would be updated "SECON"

i switched gimp 2.6 to 2.8 and new text tool behaves strangely, as i remember in gimp 2.6 when i try to change text content with selecting old text and pasting new text i could use same text size and same font with my old text without doing anything but now in the gim 2.8 whenever i try to change content of a text layer i need to choose again font and text size from toolbox options, but why do i have to do this, i have a text placed on my image with a certain font and certain font size and i just want to alter my text conten not the size of text or font , it changes automatically to back text size and font whatever i used last time in another work.
summary: i want to change my text content without setting my font and font size properties, i want to use my text layers old properties
