View 2 RepliesWhen I click the select tool, a brown selection type of rectangle appears in a particular area of the illustration, even though I have not clicked on the illustration yet. I assume it is some type of warning indication, but don't know what. P.S. It is draggable and scaleable - I can move it off the artboard. An example:

View 3 Replies View RelatedNoramlly in CS5 and any other version of Photoshop or Illustrator that I know of, if you click a point in an object, it will show the handles for transforming the line. As I'm creating something today, it works for a while and then stops. Yesterday I had the same problem. I drew a few things and then suddenly, the Direct Select Tool is not showing any transform handles.
I can get them to show if I can click and drag a box over the point, but this is slow and doesn't work well for layered art. I already tried resetting my illustrator preferences.
Also, in CS5 there's a simple icon that you can click to convert the currently selected point from a curved point to an angled point. Is there not such a thing in CS2?
The only color the eye dropper tool selects is black. (CS6)

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning I had an update and now when I use my direct select tool, all these little dots/targets show up, how do I turn that feature off?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the direct selection tool to select multiple objects that also contain an image within a clipping set, occasionally the clipped image is included in the bounding box, even if it and its clipping mask are not selected. Selecting other objects includes them in the bounding box, but even after deselecting everything the bounding box around the image remains and the only way to remove it is to drag a handle (which resizes the image) and then undo the action. Obviously this is annoying and seriously interrupts workflow. I've had this issue ever since CS4.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a JPEG image from a drawing which I need for a design but I don't need certain parts of the image.
Does illustrator allow me to make a selection of the parts I don't need (in a jpeg image) and delete them? Or is the only option Photoshop with the Magic Wand tool, although Illustrator has that one too?
When I select a tool, nothing happens...my cursor remains a useless white arrow! What is wrong??
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know this discussion title is a bit murky, but the problem is a bit odd. I have Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2. In this version, I will activate the Select Tool, check Auto-Select: Layer, check Show Transform Controls, and then while using the Select Tool I will drag to create a rectangle to select multiple layers with content within the specified area.
Unfortunately, this action only works when I begin the selection from outside of the canvas area. If started from within the canvas area, no rectangle will appear, it will show me a measurement of my selection size, and then no layers will be selected upon release.
This cannot be working as intended right? I mean multi-select dragging cannot be intended to only work when started outside of the canvas right? Is there some way to fix this issue? Is this a bug? See the images below for more information on this issue.
I remember being able to select anything on the canvas with my Quick Select tool in CS5.5 Photoshop Extended. Recently, making the switch to CC, the Quick Select tool will show my slection as I drag along the canvas, but once I release the mouse, the selection seems to be reduced to the visible pixels. I was intentionally trying to fill the transparent sections with my effects as well.
Mind you, the magic wand will select transparent pixels just fine, but it also adds unintentional sections which is irritating. I should probably also pint out that I already looked into the "lock transparence" option in the layers, but I did not activate anything of the sort.
The arc tool draws 90 degree arcs by default. How can I draw an arc with a different angle, say 45 degrees? Or, how can I adjust the angle of an arc?
View 20 Replies View RelatedHaving just entered the world of illustrator (cs6) I'm finding trying to get smooth curves to do what you want is a highly confusing operation.Being a fairly competant user of Photoshop the same task can be acheived relatively easily by way drawing paths with the pen tool and simply adding anchor points to drag out the desired shape. This buisness of dragging out handles in order to create curves in illustrator is crazy, I just can't seem to get the curves to behave how I want them to, I've watched probably 20 tutorials on this now and all demonstrate the same technique for creating curves, is there a more straight forward, simple way to achieve precise smooth curves similar to PS?
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded Ai cs2 the other day. Whenever I come to drawing polygons with the pen tool I set the fill to a colour and the stroke to none(/) just so i can produce block colour shapes without an outline. However When ive come to do it on cs2 the pen tool only lets me draw thin black lines.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's as simple as that. How do I change the anchor point from which I'm drawing. I'm using the pen tool on Illustrator CS6 on a tablet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I take the Type tool and draw a text box it simply draws a box with no fill or stroke and I can't type in it. When I simply click with the Type tool, a one-pixel dot appears and blinks like a input cursor, and when I type it blinks like it should be moving but it's not. I can't write any text whatsoever...
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.
Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
I drew a cured line with the brush tool in illustrator CS5, but when I select the new "width tool" to change the width, it doesn't work.
Here are my steps:
1. Select the paintbrush tool
2. Draw something
3. Select the "width tool"
4. Try to change the width but it won't work.
Since I draw with the paintbrush tool, the "width tool" can be very handy if I can get it to work.
So everything is fine until I use the select tool, and then free transform a part of the image. Then my brush and eraser stop working until I save and restart the program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using the fuzzy select tool to select a contiguous region of white background (to make it transparent). The flower has some white areas and it selects a small area of the flower too.
I have another whitish flower and I have no problem with fuzzy selecting the white background.....except when I add contrast to the image (and the white areas are also selected). I haven't found a way to add contrast after fuzzy selecting/adding an alpha channel. Is there a way to do this?
I am trying to align some stuff and having a heckuva time. Its basically this..
word * wordyword * wordhere * wordwordword
the * are little blue dots centered horiz and vert.Everybody is on their own layer.I am trying to get everyone equidistant, the words aligned bottom and the dots aligne center vertical.
I select the align tool, then click on word. Next holding shift I drag everything else and it is all selected. K. I have trimmed all the layers so all that is there are the things I want to align.
I have tried clicking everything in the options box and the closest I get is with distribute horizontal centers with offset but that leaves me with odd spacing.. if I simply select the text it is better, but the spacing is still not right..
When I use my mouse to use select tools (like the lasso, the outline lines that appear (that show the selected area) show up fine. When I use my tablet, usually, they are not visible.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my opinion i think the Ellipse Select Tool could be a little more ellipse (even in a 800% zoom). In this image we see that the ellipse tool starts out as a small square; than it will gradually become a circle. i'm not against it but i do think there should be an option for you to pick, in the Ellipse Select Tool options, between a pixelated circle or a perfect circle.
The same can be said about the Rectangle Select Tool when it is rotated.

I've been using PS 12.0 for a year without incident. Recently I installed Superstition beta and started experiencing crashes both in 13beta and 12. I can consistently reproduce a crash in CS5, Win7 SP1, x64, by opening an existing PSD and then switching to the Type tool. The crash occurs before I even get to see the type tool. I've replaced the prefs a million times using the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on launch technique.
I have not change type management (not using any font managers at this time). My nVidia drivers are up-to-date (dual 9800m GTX), my RAM is good.
