View 7 RepliesI'm trying to create a distressed look on an object that has a gradient mesh appliet to it. i've done this with regular objects but never on one with a gradient mesh. one of the steps in this process is to expand the object, but i'm not able to do so because the expand option is grayed out in the drop down menu.
normally after expanding the object i would use one of the artistic charcoal brushes to create a texture over the object in a different color. then i would select the brush strokes and expand apperance. then, using the pathfinder, i would merge the expanded brush strokes with the expanded object and then delete the brush stokes. what remains is the object with little cut-outs where the texture of the brush strokes used to be.
however i can't do this because i can't expand the object with a gradient mesh.
Ive made a logo. But for some reason it is still looking a little 'flat'.

Which techniques I could use to make it more alive?
I have seen that there are several posts regarding "transparent backgrounds," but but they're difficult to follow.
I'm using AI within CS5.5 but new to it. I am importing/converting a JPG file to vector format. The image is a logo with a large black circle boundry and a white opaque background. The background elements inside the boundry circle are also opaque white, and I wish to leave that as is. The edges of the circle touch the boundries of the JPG file tangentially by about 100px or so on each side when the JPG is viewed at original size.
My objective is to make everything outside the boundry circle a "transparent" background. What would be the best/easiest way to do this within AI? Is there, for example, a tool that will draw a circle that I can expand to get on the edge of the black boundry circle, and then make everything outside it transparent?
Im working in Illustrator CS5 and I've designed a logo for a client and want to send a version that is in color, a version that's black, and a version that's white. The color and black are fine since they already stand out on the default white/transparent background. But i want to put the white design on a background that will make it visible. Is there a way to set up the document so that the background is a color so that you can see the white design, but when it's place into another document it's just the design and dosen't include the backgound?

Problem is when I put the logo over a picture the outside area of the "o" in natco shows behond the red square. I want the outside of the "o" to be flush with the red square so it looks good when I put it over a picture.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a distressed, rubber stamp effect in Photoshop and am having some difficulty with the orientation of some of the text inside a text wrap. The text on top appears just how I want it, but when I try to place text on the bottom, it appears upside-down. I've tried using text-warp as well, but it obviously distorts the text and I don't want that. Is there an easy way to have the text on the bottom of text-wrapped circle orient rightside-up?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow to make a vector shape appear distressed or cracked in a natural-looking way? The best example I can think of is the Chickenfoot logo. It is a simple 2-color logo and looks nicely aged. I've been thinking about this for a while, but can't decide on an effective approach to achieve it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am looking for an explosion for a logo. I have been using one of the explosions from one of the tutorials, and it looks ok, but it still isn't what I had in mind. I have viewed dozens of tutorials, and I think the problem is that most of the explosions in the tuts look too real. I am looking for something more comic bookish, but not too much so. As this is for a small site selling R/C products, I thought it might be cool to have a remote control car, plane, boat, or all three coming out of the blast, with the logo somehow in the blast.

I'm trying to make a logo consisting of a bunch of simple shapes which are all individual layers. All of these layers are on top of a transparent canvas. I'm not sure if canvas is the right word, but basically what I mean is that I launched GIMP and made a new image that's 512x512 filled with transparency, and by default that became a layer titled background which I consider to be the canvas of my entire Image.
I can't seem to draw on new layers anymore. I've been trying to make new layers filled with transparency and draw on them with the free select tool, ensuring that the opacity is not 0 and that the layer is selected, but its drawing on the background layer rather than the layer I made to draw on. So now when I try to adjust the position of the layer, the shape I drew stays in the same spot because its not part of the layer.
formatting a logo for the web.
1.) I am putting an Illustrator logo on a Photoshop web banner graphic. What is the best procedure to apply this to the banner? Right now, I am exporting it from Illustrator to a native Photoshop file with export options as follows:
Color model RGB
Screen 72 dpi
Write layers checked
Preserve text checked
Maximum editability checked
Anti-aliasing checked
2.) What is the best format to to send to my client if he plans to use this logo for future web use? Simple RGB, or should I output on Save for Web and Devices for other options such as a GIF or PNG-24?
I need to export my logo from illustrator to a dxf for a sign I'm having made. However, they said that illustrator is exporting it using "splines" and they need me to change my settings to export as "polylines." How to do this and didn't see it in my export options. I'm using Illustrator CS4..
