Illustrator :: Making Seamless Brushes - Uniform Patterns

Aug 30, 2013

I understand how to make the brushes, but is there any way to have greater control over how uniform the patterns appear?

For example: I'm trying to create a brush that is made up of tiny beads.  But I can't seem to make one perfectly, as the beads get distorted or chopped off when I attempt to create shapes with the line or pen tools.

And yes, I've tried all of the preferences in the brushes pane, but neither of them works well.

With this bead brush, I would like to write words.  So you can see where I'm going with this.  The letters of the words would be made up of tiny beads (there are fonts like this, except I'd like to colour the beads my own way).

Photoshop :: Plugin Recommendation For Seamless / Repetitive Patterns?

Jun 12, 2013

I have been using the Artlandia Symmetry Works for AI and am very pleased with the ways it can be tweaked and set up. I am now looking for a similar plug-in for Photoshop, that would allow me to create repetitive patterns, seamless textures etc. It should allow a variety of settings, possibilities to repeat/rotate/mirror the original picture in order to create a pattern for eg. fabrics or fashion design.

Illustrator :: How To Create Seamless Pattern Brush In CS6

May 2, 2013

I am trying to create a seamless pattern brush in CS6 .When I use the no fill/no stroke bounding box placed behind the object to define the repeat, instead of cropping the object for the brush, it overlaps it.  Here is an example:

When I do this in CS5- the bounding box works fine and crops out the space outside.  Was there an update in CS6?

Illustrator :: Create Seamless Pattern Bigger Than 9x9 With New Pattern Tool In AI6?

May 26, 2012

I played with the feature a bit and understand how to create the patterns. Problem is when I go to fill in my 12x12 space there are seams. I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Am I doing something wrong or is the largest size you can create with this tool seamlessly only 9x9?

Photoshop :: Create A Seamless Pattern In CS6

Dec 4, 2012

I'm trying to create a seamless pattern in CS6. Before I had CS6 I didn't have this issue.

So, I have my 1500 x 1500 pixel document.I have set up the new pattern design in the center that I created.I go to Filter/Offset - wrap around and choose 750 px for both the vertical and horizontal.I fill in the spots, not touching or going to the edges to create the rest of my patterned tile.Define pattern. Then, go to fill a new larger document with the pattern and the offset is not seamless. See attached.

I have not encountered this problem before and have made lots of patterns this way. I do realize I can do this in Illustrator, but my client needs a PS file.

Illustrator :: Seamless Repeat / Clipping Mask - No Stroke Width

Sep 5, 2012

I am trying to create seamless pattern repeats. Most of the time when I do this I get thin lines between the tiles (I place the original pattern and move>copy it to exact measurements). I have read in other forums that these are 'ghost' lines which don't appear when the design is printed out, but I've had fabric samples printed that do contain a line. Also sometimes the motifs on the edge of each tile don't match up - see the slight line down the orange / white cups here:

I move>copy the motifs using the exact measurements of the artboard, I line up my clipping mask with the artboard and they are exactly the same size, and they have no stroke width. I can't work out why it still does not work.

Even before I copy and tile the design I sometimes have a thin white line down one side - see below.

Illustrator :: Seamless Repeating Pattern - Using Embedded Images With Clipping Masks

Jun 25, 2013

We struggle a bit creating a seamless repeating pattern that includes embedded images with clipping masks applied. Our pattern is a 550x550mm black square with various embedded inserted on top. All of these images have Clipping Masks applied to hide unwanted areas. These images are placed so they create a seamless repeating pattern and this includes areas that overlap the square.Once we create a swatch from this pattern the repeatable area becomes too big as it includes the unwanted areas hidden by the clipping masks.Because the repeatable area is now too big it's actually not repeatable.

Pathfinder/crop to delete the unwanted areas in the images etc.We though of just live tracing the images, but due to the complexity this is not an option.Do we really have to do our "cutting" in Photoshop .

Photoshop :: Patterns And Brushes - Create A Graphic Like Image?

Feb 22, 2012

I am trying to created a graphic like image in the following tutorial:

[URL]...

how to do it right.

1.) At 1:40 into the tutorial, he selects a diamond pattern as a Pattern Overlay effect. However, it's a pattern he created himself. How do I create a pattern like that?
2.) At 4:35, he draws a line with the pen tool having first selected a brush and then strokes the path. However, my path doesn't look like his. It's just a straight line,  while his splays out a bit so he's able to create that shining star effect when he rotates a copy. I've attached a jpeg of mine.

What am I doing wrong to not get a line like his? Am I not choosing the right brush. I chose a brush with the diameter of 17 like he does in the tutorial. Does it look like I selected it from a different place?

Photoshop :: Create Action Where User Is Able To Choose From Particular Set Of Patterns?

Mar 4, 2013

I would like to create an action where a user is able to choose from a particular set of patterns (created by me) and excluding all the others (that may be present otherwise) from view. My action is currently working either from choosing from the whole pattern set (using insert menu item in the action), or a single pattern of my choice. (no insert item menu used).

I want the user to choose from my set of pattern in this particular instance but not the others that are currently in the presets.

I had the idea of making the action replacing temporarily the patterns with my set (replace patterns in the drop down menu) and then reset or load the user's set at the end of the action. It made me think that maybe people wouldn't want me to mess with their presets in an action.

I am currently using PSCS4.

I can either use a new pattern layer or a new "blank layer" with a pattern overlay (layer style)

I am really looking for a spark that'll light my Eureka moment.

Photoshop :: Patterns - Create Image And Then Use Brush To Recreate Randomly Over On Canvas?

May 12, 2011

I am currently working on a texture for a turtle that will be used on a model in 3ds Max. I am a moderate to expert level user of Photoshop, in my own opinion, but still have much to learn.

My question today is this. Is there a way to create an image and then use the brush to recreate it randomly over and over again on a canvas? This question is in regards to the scales I am making for the turtle texture. The brush has a whole slew of tools for changing the size, orientation, and scattering of the brush so I was wondering if it is possible to use my scale image with it somehow?

I have attempted to use the pattern stamp tool but it spaces them so far apart and there is no control like you get with the brush tool.

Illustrator :: Changing Colors For Patterns?

Mar 7, 2008

I was in my Adobe Illustrator class earlier in college and our professor taught us how to change the colors for our patterns under any swatch. For example, the orange polka dot swatch I switched it to hot pink...we did that using the direct selection tool and changing the fill. I did the same thing on a Mac at our school (we have a Mac lab for all the Graphic Communication classes) and it worked fine but when I tried doing the same thing at home with my Windows PC it didn't work. How can I switch and play around with the colors for pattern swatches on a Windows?

Illustrator :: Defining Seemless Patterns In CS5

Jul 23, 2012

I am attempting to create a seemless pattern in illustrator cs5 with a logo a customer provided. I have looked through several tutorials and read most everything I can about the process but seem to be running into a strange problem. I make the pattern like all the lessons say with a rectangle with no fill or stroke set behind all the elements I want in my pattern. When I deifne the pattern it doesn't just include the objects inside the square but also the parts of the elements that leave the square. If I am understanding everything correctly thats not how its supposed to work. I am using illustrator cs5 on mac os x. Here is a screen shot. Back ground square really has no stroke or fill. I am only coloring it in so you can see the example.

Illustrator :: Creating Seemless Patterns With Placed Art

Aug 30, 2012

I am trying to create a seemless pattern using a customers logo in illustrator cs5 on a mac. I tried to place the logo and then create the pattern. When I drug the pattern to the swatches panel nothing happens. Similarly when I go to edit> define pattern it is unavailable.

I then tried to embed the file and go from there but that created new problems. The graphic had clear bounding boxes surrounding it which I think threw off the pattern. Is there a better way of doing this?

Illustrator :: Save AI Patterns With 8bit / Channel?

Jun 27, 2012

I would like to create seamless greyscale patterns in AI CS6 by using typical Vector-Tools, Gradients and Transparency.Output however needs to be 16Bit/Channel RGB - 256 greys are clearly not enough on the Gradients, they would lead to nasty artifacts in the intended field of use explanation here.I realize that AI is 8bit and that internal Image-Conversion from Vector clearly was no option. The underlying question for me is - does AI also internally work with just with 256 shades of grey in its gradients too?Or was there theoretically a way to pass smoother Vectors over to PS which in contrast to AI can save 16 bit Gradients? All I tried thus far (importing AI though Clipboard as Shape-Layers/Smart-Objects) yielded unusable results for what I'm after.

Illustrator :: How To Build Patterns From Multiple Shapes And Colors

Jan 23, 2013

I work in Ai to build patterns from multiple shapes and colors. At some point in the process, I use the clipping mask to crop away the parts of the build-out I don't want to see/use. Then I copy that cell/tile I want to use, and build repeated pattersn. When I bring all of these tiles together - even at 6400% - no matter how close I get the tiles to each other's edges - flush or even slightly overlapping - there is almost always a white line demarking the edges. Sometimes 3 of 4 edges appear in a centered-x/y axis, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it and I can not reverse engineer the cause.

I have hidden my edges. There is no stroke on a box. Even the clipping path has been checked and does not have stroke. What's going on here? This is a huge stumbling block for my business.

Illustrator :: Cut And Rearrange Image By Geometric Grid Patterns

The first, second and third pictures attached are the kind of grids that I want to make (I now know how to do this), to use as a template to cut up the picture, the third and forth pictures are as close as I can find to the outcome I want, with the faces rearranged (I think these were done by hand in these examples).
