for some time now I cant use Times New Roman, Arial, and some other Font Families that comes with Windows 7. I can use the fonts in Word but not in any Adobe product. Why? That wasnt happening on Windows XP.
Another thing, is it possible to sort the fonts in illustrator..
Alright, so I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and Illustrator CS5.
Times New Roman Regular does not display correctly on my machine when using Illustrator CS5, but Bold, Italic, Italic Bold display just fine. Times New Roman does display correctly in every other program I use. InDesign, Word, etc. I've attached a screenshot to show what I mean.
I am trying to set font = "Times New Roman" to a text range.
But the API constantly fails with error code = "1430996551".

I tried "Times New Roman"
"Times Roman"
"Times-Roman"
"Times New Roman Bold"
I have all these fonts installed on my windows 7 machine and can see them in the AI's font selection menu as well.
What might be the problem ? And how to decode the errorcode (1430996551) ??
What would be the pros and cons associated with changing out our standard font of Roman.shx to Arial.
- From what I hear, Revit drawings don't use shape files and do not do translate well with Revit. Is this correct?
- Is it easier to make a searchable PDF or DWF with a true type font?
Are there any other advantages or stumbling blocks?

I have noticed that the text in these files often doesn't display properly: it is misaligned and in sarif. I have found this is due to many browsers not recognising the text 'Arial-MT' that illustrator uses as its standard Arial font.
It seems that Illustrator makes it impossible to save text within svg files as Arial - a universal font that all web browsers can read. This seems like a critical failure in Illustrator and basically makes Illustrator unusable for web-based svgs...
At the moment I have resorted to creating a program that finds and replaces Arial-MT to Arial within the actual svg file. Any actual way within illustrator to save Arial AS Arial and not this ridiculous Arial-MT fonttype that no webbroswer can use.
Pulling at now and trying to get my money back... waste to much time already

Now in CS6 I only find Arial as a font and can make it either narrow or bold but not both. This gets old when working with hundreds of illustrations. How I would go about changing all text that uses Helvetica bold to Arial bold and Helvetica Roman to Arial?
Would I loop through all the text frames and get the value of the font and use that value to change them or is there a more global way to go about this?
I've been asked to produce a timeline to be printed 110cm deep by 410cm wide and wall mounted on Foamex.
The time line will be made up of individual panels - one for each year. 2010 / 2011 / 2012 / 2013 / 2014...
The reason for each year to be printed as a separate panel is to prevent 2013 being plonked on the end of previous years - hope that makes sense! (Each panel will be a summary of the year.)
Ideally I would like to design the timeline with a flowing background graphic so I would need to create the main background as one, then exactly crop each year panel to print individually.
What I'm unsure on is how best to crop each year including bleeds ect so when butted uptogether the design looks seamless.

And after scaling down (about 10 times) it gets noticeable distortions:
Is it correct behaviour? How can I avoid it?
I tried with "snap to grid" and without it, nothing changes. I'm using Illustrator CC.
in Photoshop, Arial 12 points, *looks* like Arial 10 points.

Casual CorelDraw user. Currently using X5, 64 bit and Win 7. Yesterday, while opening an older cdr file ( I believe from version 10 ) I’ve got a message ( warning ) that I do not have fonts installed used in this file and they have to be substituted. Mentioned fonts are default windows Arial fonts. Quickly I realized that X5 not only warned about missing fonts. In fact it deleted them from my windows font folder. 4 Arial types were gone, affecting not only my drawings but many other programs on my computer.I reinstalled missing fonts. Removed X5 from HD, downloaded the latest X5 version, I believe containing Sp3. Now every time I open CorelDraw I loose after mentioned Arial fonts. I've been using X5 for the past few months and used to open older files several times without such problems ever occurring.
