Is there a way to always add to a selection of objects? If I marquee drag around a group of objects, they are selected. But if I miss a object or two, holding down the Shift key while marquee dragging again, will toggle my selection off and on. I have to go in and shift-click to add specific objects. I find this fiddly and annoying (especially with lots of little objects)
Is there a keyboard shortcut or setting to always do an additive marquee selection so it doesn't toggle off what I've previously selected?
I am trying to find out if there is a way to select only the objects within a selection marquee? In AutoCAD you can make a selection window from left to right and only those objects entirely within the window are selected. If you window from right to left all objects that are "crossed" or touched by the window are selected. Is there a similar technique in Illustrator?
Currently I have to select the objects, then go back and hold the shift key to deselect the object I don't want, or put objects on different layers then lock layers to prevent extra objects getting selected.
In AutoCAD, my primary program, you simply draw a selection window, left or right, depending on what your next step would be. No special tools or toggles or thinking ahead, it's just the primary selection process and very intuitive.
When I click and drag with the direct selection tool, I'm getting a drag on the object rather than a marque for selecting points. As soon as I click, the tool switches to the black arrow tool. Did I mess up a setting somewhere? I'm not using any modifier keys.
When I pasted a selection made with the Marquee tool there is a transform grid around the pasted selection. I use a MAC and Photoshop CS6 and would like to deactive a feature for this automatic grid, if there is one.
I have Mac OS X with PS CS5. Is there a way to save an image in which I have selected a portion of an image, and have the selection marquee (marching ants) be part of the saved file so that when I reopen the file, the selection marquee is still visible?
When using the marquee tool, clicking and dragging would create and resize the selection marquee. Holding down the space bar, without releasing the mouse button, would then temporarily allow me to reposition the marquee, and releasing the space bar would allow me to go back to resizing the marquee.Well, I just had the opportunity to tutor somebody in Photoshop, and she had the newest version. I went to show her the above trick, and all that happened was the selection got frozen and its x and y values got displayed.
I just downloaded the CC trial for photoshop, then started using the elliptical marquee tool but when I try to use the spacebar to move the selection the selection will only move a few pixels then wont move at all. Also i have the screen flickering problem.
I make a new 400 x 400px document and I want to use the marquee tool to make a selection. How do I make a selection with the marquee tool to go down 14px from top and 14px to the right? I know you can use the move tool and move the selection 1px at a time with the arrow keys on your keyboard,
way in which you can create a selection with the marquee, and then rather than MOVE the contents of that selection, move the SELECTION ITSELF with the MOVE TOOL'S alignment tools (like left, center, right, top, mid, bottom)
For Max design 2012 x64 (running on Win7 Ultimate with Geforce 9800GT) I get an invisible marquee selection box when trying to select anything in any viewport.
I’ve update Max with Sp2 and Hot fix 2 but they have no effect. I’ve updated graphics card drivers to the latest available. I have the View cube switched off.
It only wants to subract from the selection, even though I have not hit the alt key. I've restarted many times. The oval marquee works just fine; only the rectangular one doesn't. It just started doing this.... so odd. I have CS5.
I use Photoshop to design interfaces and then cut down the graphics, by using the rectangular marquee tool and selecting the area that I want to save, copy-merged and then paste into a new document, of the correct canvas size according to the selection area, and then save for web..I end up with dozens of open windows all "Untitled" something, unsaved.
All I want is being able to select an area in my document using the marquee tool and then select from File a save function like "Save selection for web and devices...".
Perhapse this option could be in the "Save for web and devices.." dialog, where you could select from a dropdown the following: "Entire document" (default) "The entire selected area" "Trimmed down selected area"
I'm trying to use the rect marquee tool to do a selection and then crop a photo but when I do nothing happens.
A couple of strange things have/are happening:
-At one point, while I was in transform selection I there was added space around the marquee, which became the new edge, as opposed to the marquee itself.
-The marquee is in the shape of a rounded rectangle.
The quick selection tool now doesn't work on the image I'm editing at all. When I try to select only the leaf, the marquee jumps straight to the edge of the photo, effectively selecting the whole of the image and background. Here is a screenshot:
When pressing Enter/Return to commit a marquee selection the Feather box turns white for input (and I'm not trying to change the feather values)!?
Pressing Enter/Return should commit the selection but it doesn't why? I have not changed any short-cut preferences in PS CS6.
When I use the Marquee or Lasso tool and make a selection and I'm happy with the selection, I press the Enter (PC)/Return(Mac) and the the "marching ants" should disappear..this has always worked until today? Now, when I press the Enter key, the Feather box (next to the Anti-alias) on the upper left corner goes from grey to white and wants me to change the value?
I am trying to use the selection tool or the direct selection tool to create a rectangular marquee somewhere within the boundaries of an illustration.
I want to select only those objects that are fully or partially within that marquee.
I can use the lasso to select objects in this way. But if I try to use the selection or direct selection tool, it selects and moves the first object I touch.
I can use the selection tools and begin from outside the image area and create a rectangular marquee of selected objects. But I can't do this if I begin within the image.
This morning, my Selection Tool (the filled-in arrow) is acting like a Direct Selection Tool (the hollow arrow), but only when I click and drag on a group. It ends up select the anchors within the group rather than the whole group itself.
I've checked my preferences, quit and relaunched Illustrator a few times, and nothing seems to fix it. The problem briefly went away a few minutes ago, but came back when I quit and relaunched for good measure.
It's happening in Illustrator CS 5.1. I have CS6, and that version works fine, but I'm waiting on some plugins to be updated for it, so I'd like to use CS 5.1. I'm also running the latest Suitcase Fusion 4.
Using the selection tool i should be able tp reduce or shrink the size of the box or an image as a whole without changing the format. Iam not able to do that. I think i disabled something in my illustrator.
I have an ADMHierarchyList and I need it to support multiple selection. I see numerous places in the documention that indicate there is a way to set multiple selection (e.g. "... in a list that supports multiple selection..."), but don't see a way to actually set this behavior.
in control bar, far left color pull down, I can change fill but AI will not "let" me select the stroke to change that. Is there a trick AI now requires?
Used to be X would pick the other one; if fill was front, X would make Stroke be front and vice versa.
I know in photoshop you can make shapes with the pen tool and then covert them into a selection path.I was wondering if there is such similar feature in Illustrator
For example with the picture I posted here, what I want to do is be able to select the objects that are in contact with the black object on top without having to individually select them or use the "lasso" tool
It would make things easier with a "Select all objects under or above" option, theres only the "Select next object under or above"
I was wondering whether one could proceed as follow. Say, you want to make a vector mask of a given image, part of a photograph. One could of course use the built-in vector features of Photoshop (pen tool, vector shapes tool) to create the vector outlines used for the mask. But, it is possible to export the image in Illustrator, use all of the Illustrator vector tools to create the vector outline, and then import those vector outlines back into Photoshop, at the *exact* same place as they were in Illustrator (relative to the image being traced/masked).
I know how to go back and forth between Illustrator and Photoshop, but I don't know how to ensure that the vector paths (from Illustrator) and image (from Photoshop) keep their relative positions between the programs.
In older versions of Illustrator, I used to be able to make a selection of multiple objects and give them a stroke or other attribute. Now it says “Mixed Appearance” and I can't do anything to the selection. How do I modify a multi-selection if it says “Mixed Appearance?”
I am working on a PC with Illustrator CS6 and an Intuos 4 Wacom pad. Essentially, when I use the selection tool, it will drag the selection box around with me until the pen stops hovering. So I click down, it starts to drag a selection box, I remove the pen and it keeps dragging.
I can't figure out why the selection tool won't work. When active, I can't grab an object to move it and the icon next to the selection arrow is a line with an arrow pointing to the left, like this
The two selection tools in CS6 Illustrotor not working properly. They don't select the object when I click and drag a box around them and the handles on drawing path won't stay highlighted when I use the direct selection tool so I can adjust them
