GIMP :: Pen Input Is Not Pressure Sensitive?
Jul 19, 2013
I use GIMP 2.8.4 and ThinkPad X230 tablet with Windows 7.
The pen input is not pressure sensitive. All I see is a box that is titled Dynamics and displays Pressure Opacity. It's in Normal mode.
I upgraded the multi touch driver. How do I make it work?

As a new gimp and tablet user, I'd had some difficulty making my tablet feel like I wanted it to. After looking at numerous tutorials, I spent a day customizing a brush that would respond well to my tablet's innate pressure sensitivity. The brush worked perfectly that day! Since then, however, I've needed to customize my brushes everyday, and mess with my tablet until the brushes actually respond to pressure sensitivity.I guess the big question is: how do I cause Gimp to recognize my tablet as being pressure sensitive each time I launch it?

Running on Vista Business 32bit, Phenom 9550 Quad Core, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 7600 GT.
I just tried my WACOM tablet and the brushes were very slow, missing the start of some strokes and most importantly no pressure sensitivity. I did
a little searching and someone suggested switching off OpenGL and this has
fixed my problem.
Does anyone else have a similar experience ?
Also, is my 7600 GT card not powerful enough ? When I moved to CS2 from 7,
I had to upgrade my graphics card - which was running just fine with 7.

I'm using Photoshop CS6 64-bit with a Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet. I've already tried fixing/resetting the tablet numerous times, and I've come to the conclusion that the problem is with Photoshop, not the tablet. Important points of my problem
1. Whenever I completely reset my computer, photoshop recognizes the tablet and uses it correctly. The problem arises after I close my laptop or unplug the tablet. When I try to use it again, it gives the triangle warning box that says pen sensitivity is not available without a pressure-sensitive tablet.
2. The tablet with Pen Pressure works in Manga Studio 100% of the time. This is why I'm posting this in the Adobe Forums, not Wacom.
I've tried several fixes, I must have reinstalled different versions of my Tablet Driver 10 times at least, it always comes back to this same problem. No matter what I do, it works for awhile, but when I put my laptop to sleep or unplug the tablet, photoshop no longer recognizes it.

In Illustrator CS2, is there any way to set the width of a tool to grow when more pressure is applied (talking about for use with a tablet)
I know it's under PSCS2 under brushes>shape dynamics>size jitter>control=pen pressure. Is there any equivalent for Illustrator?

I have used mostly Corel Draw or Photopaint for quite a while in combination with 3d applications to do architectural renderings etc. I do have a question here about the "simulate pressure with Mouse" button in the Pen Settings. I can get my stylus pressure to work but I can't get the "simulate pressure" for the mouse icon to do anything. So my question is does this work and if so how do I get it to work.

I've seen this question answered before, but I followed the criteria; 99 transparency 100 opacity, but nothing is working. I have a tablet set up, and on my first laptop, the pressure worked fine in Corel.
I got a new laptop and downloaded Corel again, but it doesn't work now. I've downloaded the driver from the internet, but again, no luck.? Pictured are the different attempts of pressure, each the exact same.

I am UNABLE to follow a tutorial on how to make a repeatable pattern using 'texture transfer' on some fire I want to make into a pattern!!! every time I select the area I want to use and the 'input map' and paste as new image and I tell Resynthesizer to use that image it ALWAYS errors out as "The Input Map Should Be The Same Size As The Input Texture Image" according to the tutorial another person gave me on this forum he said NOTHING about being the same size!!! in fact, his selection was SMALLER than the actual image that he was using Resynthesizer on!!!

Draw specific, Is there a vector tool that will accept input and change thickness with pressure from the pen?
Can I use the eraser in Draw? Any other cool things I can do with it now? I'm still getting used to it, but it seems neat.

I have a Digipro tablet that I'm trying to use with GIMP on Mac OS X. I cannot get the pressure sensitivity to work. I've tried:
1) Setting the Quartz Pen in Input Devices to Screen Mode (also Quartz eraser) so that it will detect the pen.
2) Creating a new dynamic and adjusting pressure settings. The pen is detected but pressure settings aren't applied. Preset pressure dynamics don't work, either.
3) Making sure the pen pressure is working; it works fine in photoshop.
Does GIMP 2.8 not support Digipro?

When I try to add a value in the drop down menu to the pressure tab in the configure input devices window I get the following message when I try to save....
Could not create 'C:Documents and SettingsOlly.gimp-2.8devicerc': Permission denied

basically I have a Genius MaxFire G-12U Vibration joypad controller, I wanted to map to certain actions and plug-in calls, but unfortunately this appears at the status of the device in "Configure Input Device" menu:
IDirectInputDevice8::SetDataFormat failed: incorrect parameter
When the actions have been mapped to the different buttons, and after GIMP has been reset, the actions do not happen after pressing the associated buttons.
GIMP website did not show an entry for such menu.
Using GIMP 2.6.12, Windows Vista 32 bit, 4 core Intel processor.

I recently bought a graphics tablet. Sometimes it works perfectly, and sometimes it doesn't do pressure sensitivity. I've narrowed it down to a single thing. This window here:
When it works, the Stylus is selected, when it doesn't work, the Core Pointer is selected.
So how can I switch the currently selected one? Clicking doesn't work, there's no button in the configure input device dialog.
Things I've tried:
- Plugging in the tablet before starting gimp
- Plugging in the tablet after starting gimp
- Rebooting (this seems to work, for the first time I open gimp after a reboot)
No matter what I do, it seems mostly random as to which is selected.

I'm trying to get the pressure levels for my tablet working right. I want it to increase hardness when I press harder, but instead hardness DECREASES. Is there a way to flip it around? The matrix just seems to be booleans, with only checkmarks or no checkmarks.
Actually, scratch that. Now the pressure levels aren't detecting AT ALL. I have the tablet enabled in Input Devices, and the pen is Pressure-Opacity but nothing changes based on pressure.
I tried this video but the fix did not work.

If there is a way of testing the pens sensitivity to pressure in real-time. I can hear it now. "Draw a line dummy."
To be more specific, any tool that can test number of levels of pressure sensitivity that a pen is capable of. I thought for sure I would find some downloadable software somewhere but no luck.
I'm using a Bamboo Pen and interested in how to verify it is in good working condition and reaching it's whopping 512 levels of sensitivity and also whether I'm pressing harder then I need to.

I just installed Gimp 2.8 using Jernej Simončič's installer on my Windows 7 system.
I seem to be unable to customize the pressure dynamics. All options in the mapping matrix are grey, and I can't do anything about the curves. I've tried copying the tool presets and changing my copies instead, but the only menu that becomes non-grey is the one with options like "Apply stored FG/BG", and changing options there doesn't unlock the mapping matrix. I fear a bug, especially after reading this post:[URL]

I am using GIMP 2.8, and the brush dynamics do not seem to work. Whenever I use Pressure/Opacity, no matter how hard or light I press, nothing happens to the opacity.
I tested my tablet's pressure sensitivity using the built in pressure test. Everything seems fine. It works fine with Photoshop CS2, but I want to use GIMP.
Everything seems fine when I use Speed/Size & Opacity.
Additional Information:
OS: Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
Tablet: Huion H690
GIMP: 2.8.2

I'm having one really annoying problem and that its that gimp is not re-sizing the size of brush accordingly to the pressure level it just changes the opacity from low to 100%. I tried going to preferences and configuring but it resets back to previous state and in photoshop tablet works fine.

The problem occurs since the GIMP requires GTK+ version >= 2.24.7 (Around November 25).
Currently I have to date the latest versions from Git of babl, gegl and GIMP. Gtk +-2.24.8, glib-2.31.2, pango-1.29.5.In Edit > Preferences > Input Devices > Configure Extended Input Devices only shows "Core Pointer". Do not show my mouse or my Genius tablet, which before the version I had mentioned they appeared and everything worked.
In Gimp 2.6 everything works tooI tried deleting the ~/.Gimp-2.7/ folder but the new generated "device.rc" file only shows "Core Pointer".My distribution is Kubuntu Oneiric 11.10 64bit.xserver-common, xserver-xorg-core = 1.10.4

So I recently got my graphics tablet and have been playing around with it on GIMP, getting the eraser and pressure sensored stylus configured. But I'm having a weird issue- the two side buttons on my stylus already have inputs from GIMP (that being pan and image menu), regardless of what I select for it on the control panel's 'Bamboo Preferences'. I'm not sure how to change it after looking around into the programs preferences window, including 'Input Devices'. Uh, I've checked that my drivers are up to date and I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a crappy laptop, if that means anything... This is really irritating me as the input GIMP determines and the ones I choose from the control panel happen simultaneously and I just want my own inputs.

OS: Ubuntu 11.04
Arch: AMD64
Desktop Manager: Gnome 3
I recently blew away my Ubuntu 10.10 and installed 11.04. Not liking Unity, I figured I would try Gnome 3. After getting Gnome 3 set up, I downloaded babl, gegl, and gimp tarballs and proceeded to install all sorts of dependencies(required and many optional ones) via apt-get packages.
I then compiled babl(0.1.4), gegl(0.1.6), glib(2.29.8) gtk+(2.24.5) and finally gimp 2.7.3(note that all the above are from the gimp.org ftp site. Prior to compiling gtk+, gimp failed on the make with some really strange errors, which is why I compiled my own copy. Also note, ALL of the above were compile into a different prefix with :
./configure --prefix=/home/joefrazierjr/opt
Once I finally got GIMP compiled, I can see my tablet in the input devices, but they are greyed out along with all of the below:
SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
Virtual core XTEST Pointer
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 cursor
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 eraser
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 pad
Wacom Bamboo Fun 6x8 stylus
The ONLY thing that is NOT greyed out is Core Pointer.
The main reason I complied is because for whatever reason, the PPA package available does not also install Python(but does let the tablet work).
Note that I am comfortable with "using" the shell, but am a power user in linux, so assume that I know nothing about linux in any replies. Also, if I need to remove, any of the compiled code and recompile, I assume running "make clean"will fix it up correctly?
Note, my Bamboo Fun works fine in MyPaint(with pressure sensitivity, etc), so the issue is with either GIMP compile itself or GTK appsin general(If MyPaint is GTK or not). Also, I still have the build folders, so if I need to link to any of the config.log files, I will put on my dropbox.

I am having a serious problem with gimp on my mackbook pro, running os x mavericks, but the problem also existed in mountain lion.
When any dialog box appears where there is a text box for keyboard input, the keystrokes go to the background gimp main window instead of the foreground dialog box. So it's impossible, for example, to type in a new file name on a save as dialog box. Another example is it's impossible to type in an image width in the scale image dialog box. This is true of all the dialog boxes I've checked.
This makes gimp practically unusable on a mac, and is therefore a serious problem. I know of a workaround that involves typing in data into the mac text editor and pasting it into gimp dialog boxes, but that's ugly and unacceptable.
