View 6 RepliesI understand it is possible to make one colour transparent when you save a photoshop file for the web. This is useful to make objects appear to float over backgrounds on your web page.
My problem is that I don't know HOW to do this! When I save for web, I can't see how I select a colour to be transparent. If you set the background as transparent when you create your image, it just gets saved as a white background.
I have scanned in some red coloured Chinese characters. They were on white paper. Now I want to make the 'white' disappear, because it ist not quite white, and when I print I get a shadowy block around the characters. If I save a .png, can I tell it to make white invisible, transparent?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have followed about a dozen tutorials on how to make a background transparent and it seems as though I am doing everything right but... When I go to import my new image to PrintMaster it gives me a warning that the transparency may turn black. It does darken the transparency and has a noticable rectangle around the image that should have a transparent background. I have tried exporting the image in every form possible and nothing seems to work.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI wanted to create transparent icon.i created it and i can see black&ash rectangles around the image, this confirm that as a transparent image. But after exporting it to jpg or png White color background is coming when i see it in photo viewer.
How to avoid that white background, am i doing a correct method?
If I have a black background, and I make a new layer that is transparent. Then if I put a filter>nature>flame on the transparent layer, it's not as good looking, as if I put the flame directly on the black background. Why is that? Annoys me a lot, for I can't make good pictures because of this, since I can't use layers to make it more "deep looking"

How do you make a white background transparent? I've seen some of the tut's on this site, but it seems like it should be pretty straightforward.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there was a fairly simple and straightforward way to make an image's background transparent (for example, a transparent .gif) without using layers. Similar to some apps that have an eyedropper tool used to create transparencies.

how do I make the play button in this image transparent, so that you can see the background behind it?
View 3 Replies View Relatedas you can see I was able to make the background transparent by 'select by color' + 'add alpha channel' + 'remove selected area' but I also need to remove the white behind the 50% opaque reddish orange flames as well, i cannot select the white by 'select by color' or 'magic wand select' or any of the selection tools because of the issues of the white / reddish orange mix of opacity, so I need removing this white behind the part opacity color.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI try to anti-alias or matte the edges of a shape in order to make a transparent gif/png of it without having pixelated 'hard edges'. The current situation is that I have a selection of some shape in GIMP. Below the layer with the shape in it, I stroke the selection of my shape with a lighter colour by using a fuzzy paintbrush. This gives me some sort of anti-alising effect, but it isn't any close to the matte option in the 'export for web' dialog of Photoshop. Because I really do like GIMP, I am curious if there is a better way to get anti-aliased shapes using Gimp?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am working on a website that has existing template images. One of these in particular has a predominate blue background colour, specifically #0a2a35 (195 81 21 [HSV], 10 42 53 [RGB], 81 21 0 79 [CMYK]). I want to transform this colour to an orange colour, #be5d27 (21 79 75 [HSV], 190 93 39 [RGB], 0 51 79 25 [CMYK]). At the same time, I want to change the lighter and darker blue accent colours of the image to become variations of the orange colour.
I have tried several things already, and one method that almost worked for me was using the "Colorize" tool to match the HSV values of the blue colour to orange colour. It almost works except the RGB values don't quite match up.
Windows 7 and Gimp 2.8.2 in single window mode.
I am trying to to use Colour to Alpha by picking a specific colour from an image. But I can't get the colour picker to work.
The image has an alpha channel.
I choose Colour to Alpha, then click on the From swatch. The Colour to Alpha Colour Picker window appears. I click on the eyedropper. But when I move the eyedropper over the image, the cursor changes to the previous tool that was used. For example, if I used the zoom tool, the eyedropper changes to zoom as the cursor leaves the Colour to Alpha Colour Picker window, and zoom becomes active.
How do I pick a colour from the image?
if you go to the address with the usual prefix for all websites beginning with "w" and suffix beginning with "c" (address is fmaarchitects). The picture slideshow on the homepage has text below the pictures written on transparent background.... I want to achieve the colour of the transparent background, how do I go about this ?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen I use the brush tool, it doesn't apply the full colour. It's very pale (as if the opacity is low), but the opacity is 100%? When you go over an area with the colour that has already been applied with the brush, it deepens/darkens the colour, but still not full colour. I believe this happens when there is a transparent background. Is there a setting to control this? Is this the only circumstance where this happens?
(i.e. can you set this when there is a colour background)?
Can you turn it off with a transparent background, so when you apply the brush, the full colour comes through and doesn't change (deepen/darken), when brushed over again?
I work with a German version and so I do not know the exact English words of the objects and functions. What I want to do is drawing circles with an outline (I know how to do that) but with a filling (background) colour which has a transparency of for example 50%. Is that possible and how should I do that?
Must I enter the outline and the filling part on two different layers to get the transparency for the filling colour?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat I have is a shape which uses a pantone colour. However, the background is also the same pantone colour and I'd like it to stay 100% tint of that colour. What I'd like is for the top shape to be darker than the background even though it uses the same PMS colour.
I've tried to do some reading about it, but couldn't quite get the answer I was looking for. I have my .ai file set to Overprint View and have given Multiply a try, but it doesn't look any different.
I would like to know how to change the colour of a single layered, single coloured gradient (foreground to transparent) image. There is nothing more to it than that other than I don't want to use the hue/saturation adjustment as it's hard to get a specific colour.

My printer company is insisting that I convert my image to a CMYK profile.
After a bit of googeling it seems that a good generic CMYK profile might be ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc
And I found a utility to to do the conversion (URL]. However this utility wants to know what the source colour profile is. So, what does the GIMP use? I.e. if I create a new .XCF and paste in some images and do a bit of painting etc, and then save it as a .JPG, what profile will it be in?
Is the answer none? But I still need something for this utility. Or is it sRGB? There seems to be several variations.
how change brushes to paint in colour. I have downloaded quite a number and the screen shots before you download them show them in colour but when you go to use them they are all grey scale.
