I am wanting g to make a person partially transparent for a picture I am working on. I know you can use opacity but after I make the selection, the entire image still gets transparent.
View 6 RepliesI have an image that I am using as an app icon (embedded in a basic4android compilation). The image is in .png form and is a square with rounded corners. I want the corners to be transparent. When I outline the area I want to make transparent and then select clear it changes the current color (black) to white. When I use this saved file in my compilation the icon that it produces has corners that are white not transparent. How should I be doing this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.
I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).
Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.
So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).
I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).
And then my problem:
I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).
Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.
Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.
There seems to be tons of threads on how to make a transparent image, but I haven't been able to fine one to do one specific thing.
How do I set the alpha channel to be black? I want to have a black background on a png file, but I need the black to be transparent to things behind it on a webpage.
I got an irregular shaped image and I wish to get rid of the white canvas background underneath it.
I used lasso to outline the image.
However, when I right click, the lasso will not disappear.
I want my mouse to come back.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI make banners for our company newsletter that we do every month and they vary from month to month in design. I am working a few months ahead and creating a banner for our March newsletter, which I'm doing a Saint Patrick's Day design.
To do this, I am using a JPG of a four leaf clover that I want to remove the white space behind it and then set it to different opacities to add to a plain, green banner.
I do these steps:
1. Open the file.
2. Create a new layer.
3. Drag the new layer under the original file.
4. Use the magic tool, set to appropriate tolerance and select all the white space. It does the moving dotted lines around all the space I want removed.
5. Press "Delete" to remove the white space.
I did the same procedure yesterday and it worked fine. Today, it won't delete the white space. Is it because this image is a JPG?

how to make an image have a transparent backround! the image was imported as a png file, but was still pixelated so i turned it into a bitman by using the clipart outline smoothing feature. but when i try to export it as a png, there is a white block behind the image. i do have the transparenty box selected when trying to export, but that white block behind the image is still there.

The thing is i don't know how do this, and could use some help. What I tried so far is that I add to the original image an alpha channel which is the original image inverted, but that did not show me the checkered bg.
Anyway I added a faked impression of what i want to achieve. Thanks for any tips on how to make this work.

I am working with transparent images. An example is the image below. I've added borders so you can see what I'm doing.
As you can see, the background is solid white, but the image itself is primarily white. I want only the background to be transparent.
I've dabbled with the GIF Optimizer feature to make the background transparent, but part of the actual image becomes transparent also, since it contains white.
One thing I tried doing was use the color replacer to change the white background to another color, but in doing so, some of the image itself changes to yellow, despite my trying to avoid that.
Is it possible to configure PSP so that only the background is transparent? If so, what's the most practical method?
I like the 3D Tool but is it possible to use the 3D tool to raise the nontransparent part of an imported image while leaving the transparent part flat?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using gimp now for about 2 months and have just upgraded my OS to Mavericks and upgraded Gimp to 2.8.8.
Upon doing this I seem to have lost the ability to copy/cut an image or part thereof from one open image into another... Example:
I have an image window open with a picture a car and I have an image window open with a race track back ground.
I want to copy the car from image 1 into image 2, but for some reason I cannot do this function anymore. When attempting it, once the item is copies to the clipboard and I then swap to the second image, when I paste as a new layer it pastes the clipboard from that image and not the image from the first window...
I'm having some issues using either GIMP or PS to do this, so I figured I'd ask here. when it comes to image editing and tasks like this, but I'm currently being asked to do something for a job.
I need to take a single image which is a restaurant floor layout, then make it so all of the tables on the image are a different layer so that they can be moved around/customized accordingly.
As far as I can tell, this would involve creating layers, copying the tables from the main image, pasting them all on top as their own layer, and then sliding them around from there.
Is there any easy way to do this, or am I completely off-base?

As soon as I open a piece or try to make a new piece, it crashes! I can open the program but can't use it! I installed it and activated it and I can't use the program at all. I have sent many error reports beacuse I have opened it many times and had it crash many times and have always given my email address. Attached is the Error Report Details screen shot.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Gimp 2.8 and am a new user. How to make an image's background white. I have a watercolor painting that I have scanned into my computer, however you can see some shadows from the grain and edges of the paper. I have tried some different ways to change the background completely to white, but I feel like maybe I'm missing out on a quicker method. So far, the one I've been working on is taking me longer than it took to even draw and paint the picture in the first place. That method was to use the fuzzy (lasso) tool, make a rough outline of my painting, use the quick mask button in the bottom left hand corner and follow up by using the pencil tool to make a more precise line around the image.
Another tutorial I found showed I should use the Select by color tool, select an area that should be white in my image and press Ctrl+x. However, when I pushed ctrl+x, I saw no change in my background and my image remained outlined in the shifting lines that the select by color tool causes.
Is there a way to achieve a plain white background with out going through the long process of tracing around the detailed image?
It should be noted that I'm not hugely familiar with Gimp as I've only used it a couple of times with tutorials. So, the more basic you can describe something, the better. I am also running Windows 7.
I was wondering if there was a fairly simple and straightforward way to make an image's background transparent (for example, a transparent .gif) without using layers. Similar to some apps that have an eyedropper tool used to create transparencies.

Allot of the times eye color comes out wrong, for instance, when I did my daughter her eyes are blue but color came out brown eyes.

A white box around the whole image. The background should be completely transparent. No border at all. Just words on a completely transparent background.
