I've been experiencing problems with the Gradient editor since I got PS and the problem is that whenever I create a gradient through the gradient editor and then load it, it does load it and instead just duplicates the ones that already exist.

However it does (mostly) work when I import pre-made (from web) Gradients.

I don't know why this happens but it also did the same thing when I had CS5.5!
How do I return the color gradient or gray scale to beneath the sliders. They are all just currently gray. The whole process just slows me down not seeing the resepctive colors or greys beneath the sliders.

2.) I understand that every histogram is different and there is no right histogram. With that said, it does show if an image is too dark or too light and if I am just aiming for a good balance I am dragging the white slider to the left to lighten it up, and I am dragging it to where the histogram is just touching the bottom. Is there also some guideline to follow for the midrange slider where I can look at the histogram and determine which way to drag the slider?
This morning (10/25/12) after booted my system I had a notification that there was a set of updates to my Photoshop CS6 product set. I went ahead a did the updates which installed successfully. A few minutes later I started up Photoshop Elements 10. The start-up of PSE 10 appeared normal at first, but there was a lot of hard disk activity and the Organizer window would not respond when I tried to move the sliders. I started up Task Manager and could see that PSE 10 was continuing to use processor time. I killed PSE 10 and restarted it. I decided to let it run and so far it's been doing something for over 30 minutes. From time to time the window will flash and occasionally I get an hourglass icon to display over the window. I'm not able to move the window or shrink it. I guess I'll just let it run to see if it will ever become operational. My catalog has entries for about 40,000 images so I'm wondering if the Adobe update affected something in the catalog, although the update did not seem to include anything for PSE. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit edition with all the latest Microsoft updates.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI started using Gimp 2.8 and while watching some of the vide tutorials on youtube I noticed that version 2.6 has different sliders than the ones on 2.8. I have downloaded the 2.6 just to to try the old sliders and honestly I like them way better because some times when I am trying to pick a size on 2.8 I end up choosing a huge size such as 1000+. There's any possible way I can chage the sliders just like the ones on 2.6? because using 2.6 would take away the cage transform and I love using that brand new feature...

When I create a gradient and use the opacity stops they make the gradient bar transparent in the required parts, but it has no effect whatsoever on the image, nor on the bar in the adjustments panel. I feel there is some obvious solution, but it escapes me. Also, when I click on a preset like "foreground to tranparency", my image goes completely black..again, no transparency.

Well, I can open it up, but there's nowhere to edit the colour stops! It was DEFINITELY there and usable in version CS, but when I opened the same file in CS (which is still installed on the pc), the Gradient Editor has also now lost the colour stop editor! I've tried looking for it in the palettes, looked for it in the Windows and View dropdown menus, double-clicked the Gradient button in the Toolbox, clicked on everything from the Gradient Toolbar, clicked on the top righthand arrow, clicked on the gradient swatches, but a big fat zip naadaa! Anyone ever experienced anything like this before? I know I must be doing something wrong but I can't put my finger on it. In the Editor, when I create a gradient with some transparency, the transparent bit never transfers itself to my image.
I have tried using the opacity stops to set opacity to zero, and the gradient bar is almost totally transparent, yet this has no effect whatsoever on either the image or the bar in the adjustments panel. There is no tick box for "transparency" such as there is in the gradient tool option bar so what am I doing wrong??

Unfortunately, every time I do this my cursor is ALWAYS a pointing finger. I can put in color stops, but I don't believe that was what the technique used... I've tried using alt, ctrl, and/or shift in all the combinations I can think of, but no matter what I do, I always get the pointing finger instead of the arrow cursor.

I would like to divide the green leaves on the image below over the green object on the right so that the leaves create the shape of the lines. They have to fill the space of the green object at a similar shape as it is now.

I am a new user to Gimp and have gone out and watched many videos regarding how to use the different tools. I have recently been toying with the gradient tool on some text. Everything worked perfectly at first, but recently it seems to not be responding. Here are the steps that I take:
Open a new file with transparent background
Create a text box
Type in the text and adjust the font size and style
Go under layer, transparency, and select alpha to selection
Select gradient, select colors, select Dark Only mode
Drag my line from left to right across the text
When I used this exact technique last week it worked just fine, now, it either does nothing at all or will only respond only if I change mode from Dark Only to Normal.
I have recently discovered that there is more to gradients in GIMP than I had previously thought: the different varieties of pre-sets, as well as the"off-set" tool. How to make a new gradient of your own? Any other cool stuff? (Being able to manipulate gradients would be cool.)
