I am in the process of adding lighting effects to one of my images. I'm trying to get a lightning effect, and decided to use Supernova off of the image's frame. This worked for full-frame layers, but on smaller layers, not so well.
What's happening is that I'm trying to get single objects in layers to have a lighting effect, but it's lighting up the transparent space around them, making a distinctly brighter area... well, it's better if I show you:

The Unsatisfactory Result:
How to merge two or more specific layers together, that'd be fantastic.
we just upgraded to acad 13 at the office and now when i pick single line text to edit it the transperancy of the shading is so dark i cannot see the text line to place my cursor where i need it to be to change say.. one letter or whatever.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I choose the Lighting Effects filter, it is always very dark. Depending on the variation I choose the image appears either extremely dim or completely black. See the two screen captures below.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been faced with an almost identical problem listed here URL....The only thing that changes it from complete blackness is the "Ambience" value. I've done all software and hardware updates, reinstalled the graphics card driver, and restarted a multitude of times. I am using:
Dell Optiplex 390
Intel(R) HD Graphics 2000
Windows 7 64 bit
Photoshop CC
No Color Management
No plug-ins, or anything other than default PS settings
I used Lighting Effects on Photoshop CS3 and CS6 for almost two years on this machine with no problem. This was the first time I had tried to use it since I upgraded to CC. I uninstalled all other versions of PS when I upgraded, so I have not tried to replicate the problem in older versions.
Stage 1: I wish to mark up an existing image with transparent, highlighter-like markings. I've come close with paths, stroking with brush, and applying a gradient map (with alpha adjustment), but I would like to get the density of the coloring to vary and I haven't been able to find a combination of brush and gradient adjustment that will accomplish this in a visible way. Specifically, I would like the center of the broad line more transparent and the edges less so.
Am I using the best approach?
Stage 2: Carrying Stage 1 a bit further, I would like the edges of the broad line to be discontinuously more intense than the center, so that they appear as edges. This seems like a gradient map function on the line left by the brush (standard fuzzy, (19)(21x21)) but again, I haven't found a gradient that will do it. I've tried splitting the map, etc, but I may just lack the experience. Or this might be the wrong approach altogether.
I ran across a thread a while back on doing a 3D box, that I believe Rik did. Shown is the example box. How to do the "shading" effect on the front of the box? Is just a overlapping of different shapes with different transparencies? I played around with the transparency tool, but didn't get the same effect.
I am new to this and get over whelmed by all of the cool effects you guys do. Is there a "central" location that might show samples of looks, and a how to? Also the 3D box thread link, can't seem to find again.
I've had trouble creating a certain type of motion blur effect. Typically, motion blur radiates outward from one single point. However, What I would like is for a whole section of an image to be clear (for instance, a character's torso) and then have the image GRADUALLY get blurrier from there.
I cannot figure a way to do this (apart from a very long process of creating many duplicate layers and doing an independent motion blur for each one).
Attached is an example of what my attempts look like right now: an obvious line around the region that I'm trying to showcase, rather than a smooth, gradual transition into the motion blur.

I need to shade a curved surface on a simple patent drawing and am restricted to using either a stipple or a simple straight line surface shading by US Patent Office guidelines. I'd like to use stipple but the only stipple I can find is a symbol for the spray tool which, when used, creates a spray pattern way beyond the drawing boundary which is not eraseable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen videos of people doing this with photoshop, and I was wondering if it was possible with GIMP.

I'm looking to acheieve this same style lighting effect.
I know how to do this over a black background, using blending modes, lighting flares / effects etc...but I cannot get this "GLOW" and realistic looking bright light effect without a black background.
I am currently attempting to apply an image, and then filter -> lighting effects -> any light effect. When I apply the affect, at the bottom of my applied image, it appears as though there is a spot that was NOT hit with the "apply light effect." (So, basically, that spot looks normal while everything else is shadowed above it.)
I am running Photoshop CS2, the image is in RGB,
I've experimented by taking a layer and filter -> lighting effect to see if it had the same outcome, but it did not. It appears this is only a problem when applying the image.
i have been trying to do a lighting effect on some text but that option under render is not 'on' for me to select it. if i bring in a jpg those options comes on but then if i create a new sheet, that render option (and lens flare) is 'off'.

I have attached 2 images (before and after.jpg) I cannot seem to duplicate the effect shown on the after.jpg. I have tried the bevel tool,
I'm creating an effect to some text, but for some reason the lighting effects filter in the filter menu is greyed out.
I have rasterized my text, so it's not that. I have also checked that I have the lighting style files in the folder where photoshop is installed, I have even dowloaded and added some new. It didn't help.
I'm trying to make a glass/crystal ball glow in the dark and have the glow emanating from a central point within the ball .... anybody have any ideas? Does this belong in a 3d forum?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem in photoshop CC, there is no lighting effect ( Filter>Render>lighting Effect). I have installed it manualy in Plugin folder. now it is present in Filter but Disabled. while on same laptop in Photoshop CS4 it was working properly. I am using RGB image with 8Bit mode.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt is clear air brushing and skin toning was used to create the somewhat surreal skin surface. But I cannot figure out if the lighting is from the Render / Lighting Effect tool, or air brushed to emulate lighting, or something else?
When I use the PS lighting effect tool, everything turns dark in the photo outside the lit target area. Notice the shadowing on the arm and breast. It appears the light source is coming from two opposite directions. Like if this is a multi-layer process, etc. Not asking for a hand-holding tutorial.
When I use the lighting effect filter in CS6 extended, it only creates a new layer without any change in the menu and other things. I try to edit the GPU setting under the edit menu but the column is in grey colour and cannot be edited. I have changed my display card to AMD Radeon HD 7770 with an updated driver but it still not works.

I have created a shape, converted the layer to a 'smart object', and rendered 'lighting effects' to it. When I do that, PS creates a 'Lighting Effects' layer but the settings don't appear and how to access them. I am using CS6.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've read all over that the filter only works with an 8bit/RGB file, which my file is, so I don't understand what the problem is. I am attempting to light a smart object (3d bevel and extruded text) that I created in illustrator, and thought that I might just need to rasterize the smart object before the filter would work, but even after I render it and or flatten the image, merge visible, I still don't have the option to use lighting effects!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI create or load an image it is always darker than it is actually supposed to be. When I go to save a created image, it will always be lighter. What I want to know is how to make the image on the screen the same color as when I save it to my computer.
Example: I was following a tutorial to create a banner and when I finished (without saving) it turned out like this. Now, the image from the tutorial is actually suppose to look like this when finished. Then, after I saved the image it looked like how it was suppose to look.
I came across a thread a month or more ago that described how to get the effect of the Beatles picture that shows half their face in the light and the other half darker. Probably not describing this well enough here.. But now that I want to try it I can't find the thread anymore. Thought it would be cool to do with my 4 kids.
