CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 :: Colour Management With Epson R3000
Mar 16, 2012
I recently purchased an Epson R3000 and am having terrible trouble with the colour management from Corel. Everything I output has a very yellowy/browny caste over it when compared to my screen (for example a slightly warm grey comes out brown-grey and light blues come out very murky in colour tone). I have applied Adobe RGB (1998) to the document, opted for Corel to manage colours and turned off colour management in my printer. I am also using IC profiles specific to my papers. My monitor is self-calibrated but up until now the colour difference between screen and output device has never been a problem.

We are just in the process of setting up Corel X6 for deployment in our office and we are trying to get a handle on the colour settings. We have upgraded from CD11 which had very little in the way of colour management and so we are somewhat inexperienced in how to set up.
We have two production printers an OKI 821 and a Ricoh C820DN which we print to using PCL drivers. We believe that we therefore need to use RGB as our colour mode and use an ICC profile for each printer for colour correction with colour management switched off on the driver. Is this correct? We've had a try this afternoon and the colours on the prints differ greatly from the display (which has been profiled using an xrite i1pro calibrator). They also differ from each other.
The monitor profile is set as the device profile in the windows colour system, and we are using that as our engine in corel.

I run a little print shop as part of our Charity and we produce T-shirts, sublimation mugs and coasters as well as some paper based goods.
I've read a lot about color management but what is the best way to to set up to print to our postscript printers (one OKI 821 & a Ricoh 820DN)
Currently I have the default workspace set to CMYK, sRGB & coated Fogra39 profiles, color engine as WCS, preserve black off and the rest as defaults.
My question is how to set up for printing to postscript? I've read that this is best for color accuracy and allows for different colour spaces with in the same document. We print a lot of cards for local artists whose images are edited in Photoshop and output as srgb jpegs. We then import these into corel and add writing using the standard CMYK palette.
At the moment when we print we have corel set to manage colours, output colours as native as there is a combination of of RGB & CMYK elements. Within the printer driver we set either CM off or ICM managed by host, depending on the driver.
Is this correct? I did have a thought that this combination may mean that effectively there is no color management happening at all!?! It is useful for us to keep the jpegs as RGB because some customers will require their artwork on sublimation items as well which require transfers being produced on a non-postscript device. For these we use a sublimation ICC profile and a PCL driver and it works well.
With postscript I have found that outputting the file as cmyk rather than native dulls the image considerably. However, using native output gives different results from both of our printers.

I have more than 1000 installed on an xp system. I know I don't need this many. I'm sure I could get by with 400 or less. How do you thin down your fonts? How many do you try to keep on your system?
What are you using for font management? Bit stream? Something else?
Current System: i3 3.07ghz, 3gb ram, Windows 7 32 bit with all updates and X6

Something has changed dramatically between X4 & X6 when printing color.
Using X4 right out of the box with no "tweaking" all pantone colors print perfect on Xerox 700 Digital Color Press.
Trying to print same pantone colors in X6 with no "tweaking" on Xerox 700 Digital Color Press, color is not even close.
Is there a way to setup X6 to replicate color management of X4.

See the red marked area, where it is not accepting to select the rgb or cmyk. Only accepts the Lab only. It is changing the X5 but not in the X6.

I always use CMYK in my designs and the Pantone color codes for their logo design. I have never had to convert them before and have searched forums and boards with no luck in finding an easy way to do this.

This discussion is on using RGB file creation techniques to output to ink jet devices. I posted the comments below the link because color management off always pops up in the conversation as it turns to non-postscript devices so I wanted to circumvent the side bar conversation.
[URL]....
First let's get this straight, I've written it and said it about a thousand times, you cannot turn off color management.
When you select simulate color management off in the default application color management dialog, CorelDRAW simply utilizes a different set of color management settings. The rules of color management never change! The application requires guidelines on color and still must have rules that govern conversions, PERIOD.
These rules are not different, only the engines, rendering intents and profiles change. These setting in X5 and X6 can be, in some cases adjusted to simulate previous setting in versions prior to X5 that were labeled color management off, but this label in older versions (X4 and older) were deceptive in their nature, color management was never turned off, just set to a specific configuration.
Simulate color management off (in X5/X6) uses wide gamut cmyk simulation as the CMYK profile, it disengages the color engines (setting CorelDRAW to another internally controlled process) and sets the interface to RGB. It does not turn color management off.
These settings have many uses for industries such as laser engraving and screen printing separations and I support their continued use. Do not confuse this and use these settings for professional output using press work, ink jets or digital printers.

Corel X4, still installed on my PC, has no problem at all.But Corel X6 (CorelDRAW as well as CorelPHOTOPAINT) crashes after the preview scan with Epson Scan (EPSON Perfection V330 Photo) in professional mode. When I use the simple mode (which does all automatically: preview scan, border recognition, best guess about resolution and color mode and the final scan) there also is no problem.
But I wonder what the TWAIN driver does with Corel X6 after having finished the preview scan ..I already tried to uninstall and reinstall the (latest) driver suite from EPSON without success.

Document colors in Corel Draw X3 have changed. Example: dark green is now black on my designed object; Teal is now light green.
I thought it might be color management had switched somehow but all management settings do not make a change as they did before or at all. Basically I think the problem lies in the color management. I re-installed the program but the problem remains. Color management does not affect color appearances as they used too before.I run windows 7 and have had it for a couple of years with no problems.

The subtitle should be "How do I choose the best profile without wasting a lot of time and paper?"
I have an Epson R3000 using Epson premium glossy paper. I am printing from Lightroom (and Photoshop). My understanding has been that the best color match would come from using the Epson appropriate paper profile and letting LR manage the color. However, my output, especially for skin tones had a distinct magenta color cast and really looked terrible. I spent a few hours rechecking settings and making test prints to confirm settings such as turning off color management in the printer. Finally, I called Adobe support. They were very useful and by changing the printer profile from Epson 'spr premium glossy' to my monitor (which is calibrated) profile, I actually get output that matches my screen pretty well. The bothersome part is that I came away with a new understanding that I now have to experiment with profiles when printing.
This is contrary to my earlier understanding that Epson and LR do all the experimentation and that by using the Epson printer, paper and matching profiles I can get reliable color matched output from LR. There must be a reason that printer and paper manufacturers go to the trouble of developing profiles. how to choose the appropriate profile when printing? There is the further question of the best output to send to a professional printer. Should I just set to sRGB?

I have a problem with CorelDraw X6.
When printing 100% black on laser printer the Black is all in raster. Very strange because the same file printed from X4 /same PC and same printer/ is OK and is not in raster.
Probably the problem is somewere in X6.
I don't belive that the problem is in the color management because it's the same as my X5 and there all is OK too.

I have an Imac with Mountain Lion, CS5 and have just replaced my Epson R2400 with an R3000. Now the white background round the image is covered in small cyan and light grey dots. If the image fills the paper, then the margin is affected. But when trying to proof colours I am going through loads of paper as I cannot now print a smaller image on a larger piece of paper, then re-feed the same sheet through with another small image as the paper is now pale blue.
The R2400 was fine for proofing, as the image alone would print and then the printer fed through the remainder of the sheet without printing, leaving the rest of the paper white. I understood from that , that it was most likely a Photoshop issue and some sort of conflict with the Paper profiles. But, I have checked the profiles on my Mac and they are all version 2 profiles. I note that the few profiles that do work without the blue colour do have 'bkpt' in their profiling and that the ones for the paper I actually do use and in fact the majority of the profiles, do not contain 'bkpt'.

A lot of the time I like bullets to be a different colour to their following text. In past versions you could highlight the bullet and pick a colour from the palette. You had to do it with each individual bullet which was a pain, but it could be done. Now if you highlight a bullet and then click a colour, nothing happens. I was hoping that this might be because they'd added a function to choose bullet colour elsewhere (such as in the Bullets window), but apparently not.

I have just discovered the proof on /off switch in the bottom right hand corner in Draw. What is this for? I notice the colurs change when I switch it on or off. I work with RGB and produce digital images for people to print out on their home printers to use in paper crafting. Should I have this switched on or off? I notice colours are slightly different when I print my designs off myself to what they are on screen. Is this an important feature or not. I only have a liminted basic understanding of the software and have only recently began colouring my images so don't know much about 'Colour' at all.

The problem that has been with me for years is how to print a booklet as a single print job onto a digital printer that has say a colour spread on cover and centre pages... Coreldraw X5
Scenario: A3 12pp bookletI might receive a file in publisher or whatever but colour is generally on most/all pages but the client only wants colour on say cover spread and centre spread pages. I convert this file to a PDF using distiller, then save it as an EPS file to import into Coreldraw. (The step to convert to eps seems very important as I have encountered font and spacing issues when importing PDF into Coreldraw - eps seems to over come this problem)Even saving the PDF in distiller as a Black only file, am still getting the colour click on the printer...
is there any way to isolate say the cover pages and print as colour with other pages as black only I have tried saving eps files as black only but they still register as a colour print on the XeroxWould love to see an option to set properties of individual pages to colour or mono (does it exist?) At present, I have to print all the colour spreads and the black spreads and hand collate together! time comsuming to say the least!
surely there must be others out there with a similar problem? how do you overcome it?If I am designing I can easily ensure pages are black only but not when the arttwork is coming from so many different sources.

My background in Corel 5 is no longer white. It is a light yellow or cream & is very hard on my eyes Windows update downloaded an update for my monitor (Samsung SyncMaster 2233) & printer. When I opened Corel 5, I was asked what colour management I wanted, I did not know. I believe I selected "monitor based" or something like that, the way the question was, made me believe I was choosing the same setting as before. Obiviously wrong. Using Corel draw 5 help I selected "page background" picked solid: choose white but did not change. I then choose "no background" but did not change.
I have restarted corel 5 to no avail.

My corel x5 opens with object properties are set with x no fill and on opening a new document and creating a shape, it has no fill.
My boss opens corel x5 and his object properties are set with x no fill but on opening a new document his properties change and a blue color shows in his fill, and of course when he creates a shape it is filled with this blue color.
Yes, he can just change the properties to x no fill each time he opens a new document but i wondered if we can change it and have it set at x no fill as the default ? I have tried everything I can think of but it seems to want to keep this blue color as the default.

I'm producing a limited 8-colour palette mosaic for a restaurant wall using 1734 tiles represented as tessellated objects superimposed on a colour-reduced photo. Each tile will be one of 8 colours.
My question: how do I calculate the number of tiles per colour? I already have produced the tiles with their respective colour.
there is the scripting language - which is likely my only option - but as I'm new to the game:-
1. Is there an inbuilt Draw function to identify and count the number of objects with a specific colour, or
2. How can illustrate some Corel Script I can get started with to achieve this?
