Is there a way to copy just one item out of an x-ref? I am coming from MicroStation where the X-Refs acted alot differently. The only thing I miss so far is just being able to copy one item from a x-ref into the active file.
View 9 RepliesHow do you copy a non-block item from one drawing to another drawing. With both drawings open, the two methods I've used are the Edit>Copy in drawing 1 and Edit>Paste in drawing or Right mouse button (drop down menu)> Copy in drawing 1 and Right mouse button> Paste in drawing 2. Sometimes one or both methods work and at other times neither works.
Is there another copy method or am I doing something incorrectly?
I know that in ACAD you can use the xref manager to see where the actual file for the xref resides on your computer/server/etc. What I'm curious about is whether or not the inverse action is possible. Can you somehow access the file (not the output sheet where it's being xref-ed) and see what other files are using it as an xref?
I've come in on a project that is nearing completion and have been assigned the task of "cleaning up the project folder." Unfortunately, there are a ton of files in the different folders that are no longer in use on the final output sheets and I need to keep the ones still in use and archive the ones that are no longer needed. What I've been doing is going through those sheets and reviewing the xref manager for each sheet to see which files are actually put onto those sheets and making a physical checklist from which to organize my findings. Once the checklist is made, I then archive all the files that are no longer being used.
Is there a macro or lisp file that allows you to click on a element in the xref or active file and turn it off?

i xref the base and then try freezing all the parcel layers and the go away but i am left with a copy of the parcel lines on xref layer zero with no control over it.
Eventually after I copy and paste with the clipboard enough times within one drawing, the ability goes away and I can no longer copy and past one item from one drawing to a separate drawing. I need to use the clipboard function because that is the only way of getting an item from one drawing to another.
I have download a clear clipboard function but it doesn't work. Closing CAD and restarting does not reinstate the function.

This hotfix is already installed.
This particular file (and a few others) has an issue whereby the computer pauses for a LONG time whenever an XREF is placed OR a copy/paste system command is executed (not the COPY AutoCAD command, but Ctrl+C/V). I have audited and purged the file; there are no audit errors. I also tried recovering the file and it made no difference.
I checked one of the problemmatic files on my machine (different machine but still AutoCAD 2012 and Win7) and the same file has the same issues.
New files do NOT have this problem. I have attached the file. Steps to recreate the problem:
1. draw a simple rectangle
2. try to copy/paste it with ctrl+c/v
3. this other machine and my machine both pause for 8-10 seconds
I'm confident that it's something in the file, but I don't know how to track it down.

Trying to create a bit of code that when the 'OnNew Document' event is fired the code checks for a particular Custom Property. Depending on what the Custom Property is set to a form is then fired with relevant text to point the user to a specific area in the workspace. Al this works ok.
But if they press cancel i need the code close the activate 'Part1' which inturn then allows the user to select 'New' to begin again.
I have tried various scenarios but the main problem is that Inventor then crashes!

I'm looking to get the file path of a selected part/assembly while inside of an assembly. I think I found something that can get it but the example is just different enough I can't figure it out and I don't have time to play with it. There also might be an easier way I couldn't find while searching.
This is the example code that seems to be able to do loads of things including get the full path, if you know what you're doing.

We have had this issue now for a couple years and don't know what is causing it. We are using vault pro with admin set single project file. A user can work for months using correct.ipj, then randomly at 10:42 they will notice the active project was been changed to some other temporary project location "c: emp.....". Then it will happen to different users at different times. I cant seem to find any correlation to anything. I can only imagine that it is somehow triggered from the vault addin.
We are inventor 1012 and vault 2012 pro.
I am having an issue when opening and saving files is very slow when I have a project active in the Project Navigator.
If I have an active project, and I open a file via Project Navigator or Windows Explorer, the process hangs for 15-20+ seconds at the 'Opening C:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.ac$' point, where it is creating the temporary file.
If I 'Close the current project' in the project browser and open the same file via Windows Explorer, the process takes less than a second.
Since Edge only has rectangles and ellipses built in as available shapes, how to I/we work with polygon shapes and active mouseover areas INSIDE of these shapes and non-active mouseover areas OUTSIDE of the shapes?
Problem/symptom: when I import a polygon, be it any file format from from Photoshop or SVG from Illustrator, a rectangular border/background (transparent) gets applied, leading to this rectangle defining the mouseover area of the shape - and not the shape itself (be it a star or whatever).
WHAT I WANT: the very shape defines the mouseover area. How do I achieve this?? See examle below:

If regsvr32 registers my AddIn DLL why does the .AddIn file require the Assembly item?
It seems to me that the path to my DLL is duplicated. It is present in the call to RegSrv32 as well as in the .AddIn file.
I may be missing something vital of course...
I have a more then 10 folder(Irrigation-Telephone-electrical- general layout-profile etc) and one x-ref folder i want to attached that x-ref with all folder files in that folder more then 10 files so how can i attached that x-ref with easy way if i attached one by one its time less so any easy way to attached x-ref in multiple folder.

I xref file A into file B, and ALL layers in file A's xrefs are turned on, and I have to go into layer manager and turn off all unwantd layers. When I attach an Xref to the file I am working with, it is dimmer in color. Is there a way to edit the xref file so that it appears brighter & easier to read. I seem to call this ability in some previous training, but I cannot seem to figure out how to change it.

In AutoCADD you can insert an xref that is linked to the file so that when a change is made to the attached file the xref also updates.
