AutoCad :: Annotative Scaling And Title Block With Attributes?
Jan 7, 2012
I was just notified I am supposed to show a small class how to make our company title blocks using attributes and what annotative scaling is and how to use it. videos or related forums so I can set up something to show tomorrow morning. We are going to be setting up our block library and setting up our title blocks. Should this be done using templates for each paper size?

I have a co-worker who needs to create a block where the attributes scale with the anno scale, but the block container does not. He's creating a tree block and wants the canopy and trunk attributes to scale without scaling the tree symbol.
Making an attribute annotative and applying the scales to the attributes doesn't seem to work if the block itself isn't annotative.
Are we missing something, or is this just not possible?

I'm setting up CAD standards for my office (title blocks, tool palletes, dynamic blocks, you know the drill). This should have been done long ago by another employee who makes more money than me, but that is beside the point. (Maybe you know the drill on that front too...)
This is a granite counter top fabrication shop, and I've created a dynamic block containing all the edging profiles we are producing at the moment. Contained in the block are "3D" versions of each profile, both with and without dimensions (for annotation purposes), and a 2D closed polyline showing only the "section" of the profile, to be exploded from the block and used as an extrusion shape when 3D drawings of the finished look of a countertop are necessary.
The issue I'm having is with scaling/annotative scaling. I have created a custom tool pallete with this edge profile block and a couple other dynamic "mark-up" blocks. (See Layout1 in the attached drawing.) What I need is for this edge profile block to insert into model space at "actual size" (3/4" thick), so when it is exploded and extruded, I'm creating that 3D edge at the proper proportion in my drawing. But for annotative purposes, I want to be able to insert the block at a different scale in paperspace (roughly at the size it is shown in the attached drawing).

I'm trying to make some command which allows me to easily scale blocks.
I've this
BlockReference br = (BlockReference)obj as BlockReference; br.ScaleFactors = new Scale3d(0.5, 0.5, 1);
Everything is ok, lines, circles, etc. in block are scalling correctly.
But I have problem with attributes (look at the image) - attributes are not scaling and their position are not correct.
Simple command ("scale") is working OK

We are having some issues with title block scaling when importing them from the design center. Some people have this problem whilst others have had no problem at all or only in the past and this has since stopped.
Layout Template.jpg
The image above shows an example of the problem. The Layout basically appears 25.4 times larger than the paper itself (the paper is at the bottom left). This would indicate something is wrong with the insertion scale.
The drawing containing the title blocks is in millimeters and the drawings which it is being inserted to are in a mixture of millimeters, inches, or unitless. I have checked the insertion scale settings within options and both Source and Target units are set to millimeters for users that have this problem and users that don't.
I know a quick fix is to just select that block and scale it by 0.03937 (1/25.4).

I "work in both worlds" It's somewhat important. (Windows at my "day job", Mac Student Ed for my University teaching.
I have an Annotative Associative block with attributes (TTFs). The Title attribute is multi-line. When the block used in a file that is opened in Windows, obvkously everything is fine. If that same drawing is opened in ACAD Mac, the position of the top attribute shifts and can't be corrected until the block is edited in Windows. (It has to be Windows because ACADmac can't edit associative blocks in this release.)
Process I used (MacBookPro 7,1):
Start ACAD12win (Parallels 7 w/WinXP), used default ACAD.DWT.inserted block "Tag Drawing Title", accepted all attribute value defaults, accepted default annotation scale of 1:1save fileopened file in ACAD12mac (multi-line attribute in wrong position)save fileOpened again in ACAD12win, and multi-line attribute is still in wrong position. Save fileOpened again in ACAD12mac, and multi-line attribute is in a greater incorrect position.

I have set up a template to A3 - I have amended the page setup to A3 and I have drawn my title block and saved it as a template.
I am now trying to insert the template onto a drawing I have done. I insert the template into a new layout and then do MVIEW to insert my drawing from model space. The problem I am now encountering is that my drawing in MVIEW will no scale correctly. It should scale as 1:100 at A3 as the drawing does before I insert my title block, but when I insert it, I then have to scale at 1:500

I'm trying to chnage the text of the sheet number and total sheet number attributes for each layout in my drawing. I have code that adds and deletes the specified pages, now I need to edit the attributes to reflect the correct page and correct total amount of pages. Here is my code, based on my old VBA version.
I know there is a problem with the line:
For Each item In myBTR.ObjectId
I've used a number of websites and books, but I would really like to find something that teaches about block tables, block table references, block table IDs so I can get a better understanding of breaking stuff down to get the info I need.
Public Sub updatePageNumbers()
Dim myDWG As Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Document
Dim myDB As Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.Database
Dim myTransManForPageNumbers As Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.TransactionManager
Dim myTransForPageNumbers As Transaction
[Code]....

I've completed my drawing (Autocad architectural 2012) and set-up my multiple view-ports (at 1:50 and 1:5 scale) on my title-block.
I'm now going to add my text and dimensions im model space....and that's when the problems start!
I've created text and dimensions in annotative style.
The issue I have is when I change annotation scale from 1:50 to 1:5 my text and dimensions in model space automatically changes (as can be seen on attachment) to a huge scale but is perfect in layout view for differing scales.

I have just upgraded to 2012 and I am having a few issues with the title blocks I am creating. For some reason everytime I add attributes to the block they never come out in order. For example I create the title page, add the attributes using ATTDEF (job name etc) then I create the block and check my attributes using BATTORDER, I can arrange them using the up/down buttons which is fine. But as soon as I try to edit the attributes outside the block editor they are all out of order again! I have tried making the attributes in and outside of the block editor with no avail! And to make matters worse I have a jumpy mouse.

way I can link my AutoCAD title block attributes to excel and make changes in either excel or AutoCAD and then be able to run an update? The attributes would be “REV” “DWG_NO” “TITLE” “LOCATION” “DRAWING_SIZE” and “FILE NAME”.

I have searched high and low and still could not find a tutorial to really explain how to create a drawing title with attributes (Detail Number, Sheet Number, Detail Title, Detail Scale). All I find are on creating dynamic block, which I could achieve, but I need one for a block that has (or will have) attributes.
I was able to find a tutorial on attributed door numbers, but it does not work for drawing titles that has attributes. GOAL: I would like to have all my seven drawing titles in one file and to be able to stretch the leg of any selected title to a desired length.

I was given a customers title block but there are no defined attributes. I'm using AutoCad Electrical 2010. I have to double click on the title block and the edit block definition box pops up. I select the block to edit and click ok. I would like to use the enhanced attribute editor on these title blocks. Is there a way to define the attributes on this kind of title block using the enhanced attribute editor?

I have created fields in the drawing properties custom fields dialogue box, then inserted those fields into my title block attributes.
Two things I hope to get out of this:
1. link these fields into the drawing property summary, so that I can display the drawing title and other pieces of info in the help strings that appear in windows explorer by simply hovering the cursor over the file.
2. I wish to be able to fill out the information in the title block by data linking it to our drawing lists in access.

I have attached the block for reference. Now that I have found the error of my way with the annotative cutline. I have a slab-on-grade block that needs to have annotative hatches; I also need the cutline to be annotative and dynamic so that as the drawing scale changes the scale of the cutline will be match and I can adjust the length of the extension lines. I have made the cutline a nested annotative and dynamic block within the slab-on-grade block. When I insert the block into my drawing the cutline is annotative and the dynamic grips show up but they do not work.

I'm currently trying to make an MV block which is a combination of a 2D symbol and its 3D representation. I want the 2D symbol to scale in line with the annotation scale so have set the annotative flag on my symbol block but I do not want the 3D representation to scale so this does not have the flag set. However, when I put the two blocks into my MV block and then alter the annotation scale, both the 2D and 3D blocks both scale.
Is there something more that I need to be doing to to make the two blocks act independently and comply with the annotative flag set on them? I have seen this behaviour work on MEP2013 but can't see anything different on its 'devices' and my simple blocks.

I've been watching some youtube tutorials on annotations, seems like I need to set the scale for Text / Dimensions / Multileaders / Leaders / Hatches.
Just wondering, is there something like a "master annotation" config I can use to set them all at once?
And which scale do I use to control the scale of my lines in my drawing? I draw in metric, and when I select a linestyle called HIDDEN, I need to set the scale to about 300 for it to appear as a HIDDEN line, other wise it's just a normal line.
How do I go about fixing that? Under normal circumstances, it should appear as a hidden line with just a scale factor of 1 in properties right? Why do I always have to make mine a scale factor of 300? I draw in 1:1.

I had started placing dimensions in a drawing before I realized that I had to change the scale of the entire drawing. So now I would like to change the annotative scale of an existing dimension style but I am not clear on how to do it.
This would be for any new dimensions that I add. They continue to appear at the old scale. All of the dimensions are correct I would just like to see the dimensioning scaled up to the proper size for the drawing.
I realize that I could just create a new style but instead would really like to know how to change what I am already using.

I have a drawing (attached) with the following settings: LTSCALE = 1, MSLTSCALE = 1, PSLTSCALE = 1.For some reason the linetype is not scaling based on the annotative scale. It will update correctly if I change the LTSCALE but for some reason it wants to ignore the MS and PSLTSCALE variables.
As a note, the drawing was converted from a Microstation drawing and the linetype is a converted Microstation linetype. Is there something in the linetype that is doing this.

After drawing in model space(1:1 Scale) I then dimension as needed using Annotative Dimensions, Multileaders and MText using the same 1:1 scale. But when I create the variuos viewports on my layout pages the dimensions aren't scaling to the viewport scale.
This is where it may be partly my fault; When I first started using annotative dimensions etc. a box would pop up asking what scale to use. Because I am dimensioning in model space, rather than always seeing this text box I selected "Do not ask again" check box to always use 1:1 scaling.
These are some of the other settings in place;
ANNOAUTOSCALE = 4
Annotation Visibility = ON
Automatically Add Scales = ON

I love annotative scaling of objects it is a great feature. I am however having one problem that I'm not sure if I've missed a setting or something. Is there a way to prevent civil 3d from scaling your annotative objects based on the view scale you are looking at? For example if I zoom out (in model space or max viewport) to show my entire drawing and regen, civil 3d scales all my text and blocks to an enomous scale esentially blocking my entire drawing with solid colour. also if I zoom into a small area to do some detail work all my text becomes microscopic and unuseable. This makes adjusting text so it doesn;t overlap other text very difficult if it never appears at the correct size. Is there a way to freeze annotative objects at thier correct scale (for the current viewport scale) so they dont scale simply because you zoom in or out on a drawing?

I have been making blocks Annotative by using block Editor. I would open block Editor and change the block property to annotative. When I do that I notice that the block's attributes become unreadable. The block's attribute appears to become so squished up the I can't read it. I have tried to change the attributes width to make it readable but that does not work.

From the attached image you can see what I'm talking about.
(left=original, middle=ROTATE, right=PROPERTIES)
When I rotate blocks using ROTATE command everything is fine, but when I rotate blocks using PROPERTIES my attributes get messed.
I need to rotate several blocks at once with PROPERTIES, because I don't have time to rotate each one separately.
The same thing happens when scaling blocks, but this was resolved using the command BSCALE in the command line.

When I insert Annotative blocks and change the scale drawing (E.g. 1:100 to 1:200), attributes of Annotative blocks move to anywhere. I tried already ANNORESET and ATTSYNC, and it solved at that moment. But when I close and open the file, the problem appears again. I have to apply ANNORESET and ATTSYNC every moment. How can I definitely solve this problem?

I'm trying to create blocks which will be used in multiple drawings for Gridlines and detail marks.
These blocks are basically a circle with an attribute in the centre, and once created as a block are annotive as they will be displayed in multiple viewports.
I can create the block with attribute fine using the "block" command which then allows me to make the block annotive ( The "wblock" command dose not allow this )
However when I insert the block into a drawing I need to explode the block before I can edit the attribute ( even though I explode the block it's still actually blocked )
It's as if the block has been blocked twice?
