AutoCad :: Viewport Is View Locked Switching To Paper Space?
May 30, 2012
A problem we are having in our office on 1 computer is that this message appears in the command line
'viewport is view locked switching to paper space'
It happens whenever we zoom or pan into one of our locked viewports. We have purposefully locked the viewport so we don't lose the scale when we zoom or pan and want to leave it this way, however, whenever we zoom or pan this message appears and it takes 30 seconds before the screen readjusts to the zoom or pan we require.
I'm in paper space, in a drawing I didn't create and, when I dbl. click in a viewport to open it and attempt a zoom, the entire paper space environment zooms, as if I was still in paper space, although the task bar tells me I'm in model space. Is this because the viewport is locked? If so, how do I unlock. I see nothing on screen regarding padlocks, except the tool bar/ window positions padlock.
If it makes a difference, I'm in Acad 2006, not 2006 T.
Just got the new 2013 version and I'm having this strange problem:
When I open a drawing (that was last saved in Paper Space) and I'm switching to Model Space, my view is not set to "Top" by default. How can I set my view by default to "Top"?

I have a site survey that I am having rotation issues with.
In the model space the drawing is rotated so when I draw a vertical line it points up (which is what I am used to). However in the paper space, the drawing is automatically rotated so that north is now pointing up, and if I attempt to draw a normal vertical line as i did in the model space the line now points NE.
How can I rotate the view of the viewport in paper space so that my lines as vertical and horizontal. This would not be such an issue if it was just a plan, but I have drawn sections that just look ridiculous.
We like to allow user to select a rectagular area in modal scpace. Then the code creates a paperscace viewport in a spcified layout. The viewport will show the selected area. find the old VBA code that achived this and the .net code I am trying with. .Net code always gives some exception.
VBA Code
'Lets find the center of the viewport in paperspace.
Dim center(0 To 2) As Double center(0) = newWidth / 2 center(1) = newLength / 2 center(2) = 0 Dim lay As AcadLayout For Each ent In ThisDrawing.layouts
I am getting this problem with my AutoCAD, whenever i am working in paper space and i move around the drawing my AutoCAD will freeze and become non-responsive while "regenerating model". Same thing happens when i switch between paper and model space and vice-versa.
I have gone and updated my AutoCAD with service pack 1 and the "ribbon" hotfix for this problem and it is still there.
Spec: AutoCAD LT 2012 Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit Intel Core i3 3.20 GHz 8GIG Ram Intel HD Graphics (integrated im pretty sure)
Every time i switch to Paper Space I get a Fatal Error in Civil 3D 2013. What could be casing the crash? It does it in every drawing so it does not appear to be specific to any one perticular drawing.
I'm having an issue in 2014 with switching between model and paper space. It takes 4-to-5 seconds for me to begin working in these spaces, after switching. Going between tabs is not an issue, it's just switching between model and paper space that causes the lag.
Trying to finish someone else's half finished project done in acad 2007. I'm working in Architecture 2009. I just opened a sheet template, xreffed the file into a viewport, and whenever I switch from model to paper space or back I get this message-
Cannot find the resource string number 25900 in resource AecXDisplayPropsData50-
ACAD 2010 text doesn't view the same in MSpace and PSpace! Model space is the acad default text: txt Paper Space it appears as it should as Romans. The drawings print as txt and not as it should Romans! When I change the text in model space to Romans, save the drawing, enter PSpace and the return to MSpace, it seems to 'reset' back to text!
This is specific to my workstation BTW, when I open the dwg file on a colleagues PC it opens Romans in both Model and Paper space.
CAD-Newbie working in paper space zoomed in close. I want to return to page extents but am zoomed in so close I can't click outside paper space to move view control toolbar to model space. is there a simple key command to perform this function?
I've managed to open a viewport in paper space of my overall drawing which is great, but I want to zoom in on that viewport to create multiple layouts of the same drawing but as zoomed in sections. When I zoom in the model overlaps over the drawing title block, I expected it to be behind the title block if that makes sense??
I have got a large drawing with multiple viewports and some layers that are shown in model space won't show when I access model space from paper space (through the viewport). I have had a look at the layer manager through the viewport and everything is switched on, there is no viewport freeze activated but still I can't see the lines in the viewport in paper space (either in model or paperthrough the template).
When working in paperspace existing or new layout viewports are non-selectable. The viewport boundary is not visible and all layers are turned on and thawed. Is there some sort of toggle to make viewport boundarys visible and selectable?
I am currently working on a .DWG in Civil3D which has 12 viewports. This particular .DWG causes my computer to lag quite a bit. I was wondering if there was a way of combining viewports in paper space (i.e. taking areas from multiple viewports and displaying them in one viewport), or if I am stuck with the individual viewports? I am just looking to speed up the process, it takes a long time to load the .DWG and work within it, the problem happens to others as well.
.DWG info: Large area with many smaller sites (retention ponds and such) All sites must remain in the paper space layout (I've tried deleting viewports, and that does speed up the process, but again, I need to keep all sites intact).
Computer info: Windows 7 64-bit 8GB Ram Intel Core i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800
This only happens from time to time. I have a sheet set up with multiple viewports. I double click in one viewport, type LAYER, and the layer dialog appears but my viewport has changed.
Is there no longer a way to edit the shape of a viewport in paper space anymore? I seem to remember being able to make viewports in previous versions and then edit the shape as i needed to.
I am using 2014, and trying to cut a corner off of a rectangular viewport so i can lay another one on my page.
I am working on a set of architectural drawings, and so far I got about 12 sheets (each sheet is on a paper space layout) of details. I am using AutoCad 2005LT. The text is in paper space and all the drawings in model space. I have to move some details from one layout to another. When I copy the viewport with text to different layout the items in model space don't show off . Is there a way to copy text in paper space along with detail in model space at the same time to a different layout?
I have had this issue for about two weeks. I am not aware of any changes to my system though Windows 7 updates automatically.
Often, but not all the time, when I am in a floating viewport which is locked and I zoom in, the part of the drawing disappears as if the view on the viewport has adjusted to one side so that I cannot see any of what I am working on. If I escape the command and 'undo' last command it takes me back to the correct view but in paperspace.
This is a pain as I cannot zoom in to locate a point accurately. It only happens when I zoom in quite close. The viewports are locked and it is only a problem recently. I have used CAD for 20 years and LT 2008 for the last 4-5 years so I dont think it is a user issue. Maybe a settings issue or bug, but I have not knowingly changed any settings which would do this and cannot see why this would be a 'feature'.
Let’s say you have a large building plan in model space but there is only one small area of the building that the view port is looking at. Is there a way that you can draw around that viewport and then take that into model space and paste it in the same place so now you have the same area located in both views?
At the moment I need to try and work out where the view is by drawing a rectangle around the correct area of the building and this is time consuming.
I could then trim/delete everything else outside that box.
I often have the need to change the orientation of my vieports to better fit my project.
I often, and I mean 9/10 times get one or more fata errors when try to do so.
For clarification I am grabbing the wheel in the top right corner between N and E and rotating the view. When I release the drawing is not in view. Then the program crashes.
It is very frustrating and adding hour on to my day.

I know I am not running a quadro but I should still be able to handle this type of task.
I have a drawing in model space the i drew to scale of 1'=1' and I went to paper scape to put the drawing in my title block using Viewports. highlighted the viewport and went to properties to give the drawing a scale so it would maximize the Viewport area, on my 22"x34" paper. but under the standard scale 1/64"=1' is too big and 1/128"=1' is too small. the simple solution is zoom extents but then in my title block i have to put NTS. I would like to add to the standard scale or be able to set the customer scale to a whole number. EX. 1:1000 or 1:150, etc. etc.
I have used the following code in a small app to create named views: LINK_TO_Autodesk_Help_Topic
However...A user of mine tried running the command while in a paper space layout. It appears the view still gets created but only within Model Space.
The help DOES SAY that "a default model space view is created", but how would I specify that I want the view to be created within the "current" layout, either Model or Paper space?
I tried setting the .OwnerID property of the ViewTableRecord to "doc.CurrentSpaceID" but that did not work - no error either.
We have a problem with the view port freeze. When we feeze a layer in the modelspace of a viewport and save the drawing, on re-opening the drawing we find that the layer that was switched off has been switched back on i.e. the saved mechanism does not work.
We have tried copying a view port that works from another drawing into this drawing by that did not work. We have also compared setttings with the drawing that works and the drawing that does not work. But there was no joy.
We think the problem is with the drawing and need a solution preferably with the settings of the drawing. having to redrawing the whole drawing.
I have a drawing with some 3d objects that I display with multiple viewports, in paper space, showing different views of the objects. The viewports themselves are all on one layer that is frozen. Each viewport with a 3d object is set with Visual style: Hidden & Shade plot: 3D Hidden, to hide all lines that should not display for that view and creating a nice clean image in each viewport.
Again, viewport layer is frozen so no viewport borders are displayed. The problem I'm having is that I get random viewport border lines that show up on my plot. It can be paper or pdf. and could be top in one viewport and side in another, etc. I have never had this happen before but it seems to be related to hiding 3d line because I have never had a problem when I didn't.
how can i rotate a drawing view in model space and paper space? UCS -> new -> 3 point -> and saving the view works, but trying to figure out how to do this with paper space now. My purpose if for pulling construction lines from plans, for elevations. In the past I simply rotated the drawing, but if i had a layer turned off it would mess up their positioning.
