AutoCAD 2010 :: Paper Space Viewport Not Selectable
May 17, 2013
When working in paperspace existing or new layout viewports are non-selectable. The viewport boundary is not visible and all layers are turned on and thawed. Is there some sort of toggle to make viewport boundarys visible and selectable?
I've managed to open a viewport in paper space of my overall drawing which is great, but I want to zoom in on that viewport to create multiple layouts of the same drawing but as zoomed in sections. When I zoom in the model overlaps over the drawing title block, I expected it to be behind the title block if that makes sense??
I have got a large drawing with multiple viewports and some layers that are shown in model space won't show when I access model space from paper space (through the viewport). I have had a look at the layer manager through the viewport and everything is switched on, there is no viewport freeze activated but still I can't see the lines in the viewport in paper space (either in model or paperthrough the template).
I am currently working on a .DWG in Civil3D which has 12 viewports. This particular .DWG causes my computer to lag quite a bit. I was wondering if there was a way of combining viewports in paper space (i.e. taking areas from multiple viewports and displaying them in one viewport), or if I am stuck with the individual viewports? I am just looking to speed up the process, it takes a long time to load the .DWG and work within it, the problem happens to others as well.
.DWG info: Large area with many smaller sites (retention ponds and such) All sites must remain in the paper space layout (I've tried deleting viewports, and that does speed up the process, but again, I need to keep all sites intact).

I have a site survey that I am having rotation issues with.
In the model space the drawing is rotated so when I draw a vertical line it points up (which is what I am used to). However in the paper space, the drawing is automatically rotated so that north is now pointing up, and if I attempt to draw a normal vertical line as i did in the model space the line now points NE.
How can I rotate the view of the viewport in paper space so that my lines as vertical and horizontal. This would not be such an issue if it was just a plan, but I have drawn sections that just look ridiculous.
This only happens from time to time. I have a sheet set up with multiple viewports. I double click in one viewport, type LAYER, and the layer dialog appears but my viewport has changed.
Is there no longer a way to edit the shape of a viewport in paper space anymore? I seem to remember being able to make viewports in previous versions and then edit the shape as i needed to.
I am using 2014, and trying to cut a corner off of a rectangular viewport so i can lay another one on my page.
A problem we are having in our office on 1 computer is that this message appears in the command line
'viewport is view locked switching to paper space'
It happens whenever we zoom or pan into one of our locked viewports. We have purposefully locked the viewport so we don't lose the scale when we zoom or pan and want to leave it this way, however, whenever we zoom or pan this message appears and it takes 30 seconds before the screen readjusts to the zoom or pan we require.
I am working on a set of architectural drawings, and so far I got about 12 sheets (each sheet is on a paper space layout) of details. I am using AutoCad 2005LT. The text is in paper space and all the drawings in model space. I have to move some details from one layout to another. When I copy the viewport with text to different layout the items in model space don't show off . Is there a way to copy text in paper space along with detail in model space at the same time to a different layout?
In 2012 Autocad, cannot change from model space to paper space, or paper space to model space without locking up in several drawings.
In 2012 Autocad, cannot change from model space to paper space, or paper space to model space without locking up in several drawings.
I can log into another user's computer and open the file fine. But when i use my computer or a brand new computer fitting all Auto CAD specs, it locks up. When I plot I have to reset my settings to the PTE standards every time.
I now get CAD errors when CAD is not even open. Also VTPSUHM barely works. I generally have to restart my computer several times to get it to work.
determine if Fields can be used in model space inside a block and show up in the paper space view as a correct number, (say for a detail number)? I have all of my detail blocks in model space and would like to place fields in the title blocks of the details so that they would show the paper space sheet number that they are being shown on in paper space. I have done some experimenting and cannot seem to get it to work. Or will this just not work?
1.- Details in model space are blocks, and I want to edit the block and insert a field into the detail callout.
2.- I want to have the model space detail read the paper space drawing number, and have the fields change to the proper sheet number.
3.- The result will be the that the model space block fields have changed to the proper detail sheet number shown on the paper space border.
I have a drawing that has several Paper Space tabs, and each tab has one or more viewports.
When I open the drawing, I can see all the information in Paper Space mode, and I can access the Model Space through the viewports, using the MS command. When I switch to Model Space, nothing is displayed.
So I just recieved drawings from a contractor and they placed all the multileaders and details on the paper space but when I go to change the model space things are no longer pointing at the right spot.
What I am trying to do is copy them into model space but.... when I use crtl-c from paper, crtl-v to model it doesn't scale properly.
I'm in paper space, in a drawing I didn't create and, when I dbl. click in a viewport to open it and attempt a zoom, the entire paper space environment zooms, as if I was still in paper space, although the task bar tells me I'm in model space. Is this because the viewport is locked? If so, how do I unlock. I see nothing on screen regarding padlocks, except the tool bar/ window positions padlock.
If it makes a difference, I'm in Acad 2006, not 2006 T.
I often have the need to change the orientation of my vieports to better fit my project.
I often, and I mean 9/10 times get one or more fata errors when try to do so.
For clarification I am grabbing the wheel in the top right corner between N and E and rotating the view. When I release the drawing is not in view. Then the program crashes.
It is very frustrating and adding hour on to my day.

I know I am not running a quadro but I should still be able to handle this type of task.
We like to allow user to select a rectagular area in modal scpace. Then the code creates a paperscace viewport in a spcified layout. The viewport will show the selected area. find the old VBA code that achived this and the .net code I am trying with. .Net code always gives some exception.
VBA Code
'Lets find the center of the viewport in paperspace.
Dim center(0 To 2) As Double center(0) = newWidth / 2 center(1) = newLength / 2 center(2) = 0 Dim lay As AcadLayout For Each ent In ThisDrawing.layouts
I had the need on occasion to dimension in Paper Space. I set up a "Dim Style" to accomplish this in either 1/8" or 1/4" Scale. The problem I am having is the consistency of the actual dimension.
For example: I could draw a simple box 10'x2'. When I dimension in Paper Space, sometimes it correctly displays the dimensions and sometimes it incorrectly displays the dimension.
I attached 2 screen shots of what is happening. Notice the dimension on top of the box shows 10', but when I dimensioned the bottom of the box it shows 480'. This seems to work at random.
The other screen shot shows the Dim Style settings I used.
i have been sent a border from my client which has been drawnt in model space and they are asking the border they sent me for my drawings to be inserted into Paper space. When i insert the border into paper space the border is way to big for the paper space and i dont know how to make it fit ISOA1 size.
We detail an extensive amount of 3D solid entities using viewports in layout tabs. Most of detailing entities are in model space, things like dimensions, part callout, and other text entities that provide description as to what's going on in the viewport. Periodically, there is a need to create entities in paper space. Lets say for example, I'm zoomed out to the layout of the page setup, and I have a viewport with a lot of 3D solid entities. Still zoomed out now, I want to add an icon to the corner of the viewport. When I invoke the "endpoint" osnap to insert my icon at the viewport's, without zooming in, and try to pick a corner of the viewport, the icon gets inserted to an endpoint of an entity that's in model space. What a pain in the behind. The only real work-around is to zoom right into the corner of the viewport, which defeats the whole point of osnaps in the first place.
I remember this not being the case. Did AutoCAD introduce a variable and set it's default to something that I don't it to be, or is this a screw-up of AutoCAD?
I reloaded my CAD and now I have a black background in paperspace. This is what I want but I want it to print white while haveing a black backgroud for drawing. How do I do this?
I am attempting -- without much success -- to put my dimensions in paperspace. The problem is that sometimes (almost always) the dimension value is in paperspace. That is, when I do a Linear Dimension of two points of an object while in paperspace the resulting value will be a few inches instead of many feet.
My model is drawn at full size; my viewport is set to 1/4" = 1'-0"; I am using ACA 2012.
I am not sure if it instructive, but I have found:
- The only time it comes out correct is if my first point is at 0,0. But if the second point is 0,0 it will be wrong (paperspace value). Bizarre - most of the "wrong" dimensions have the "Associative" property set to "No". The box is grayed out so I am not sure how to change it. - If I MEASUREGEOM, the value is the correct model space length but if I do a linear dimension using the same two points the value is in paperspace.
When dimensioning in paper space and move or make any adjustment to the viewports the dimensions go haywire and move of the parts but not all dimension and not all viewports are doing this. I'm using the same dimension style and templates that I normally use.
How to change your settings so that when dimensioning an object that is in model space, while floating over it in paper space, it will give you the actual dimensions in model space?
Seems that it should be a variable setting or something you can change in DIMSTYLE.
in general, I add my multileaders in paperspace after I have set my model space scale. However, I am now bound to that scale! That is, ML in paperspace really only have one scale: 1-1, right? For example, I wanted to zoom in to a part of my project (ie, reduced my scale by a 1/3) and all my ML we pointing erroniously into space.
Just so I undestand, if one anticipates changing the scale of a drawing mid-project, the ML should be made annotative, and placed in model space?
