When I try to dimension my drawing in paperspace the dimensions are coming back as inches instead of the many feet that the drawing actually is. My viewport scale is 1/4" to 1' and ive done many other drawings without ever running into this problem.
View 9 RepliesWhen I make a layout with a part of my drawing in a viewport, I switch over to paperspace to draw dimension lines in it. Although the layout is displayed in another scale (e.g. 1:100) it puts the right dimensions at the drawing.
But now a problem appears:
With one of my drawings the layout does not put the right dimensions at the drawing in paperspace. I really don't know what went wrong. Strange dimensions appear, as if there must be a strange scale factor somewhere. (Dimlfac=1)
When using dimensions in paperspace i get the paperspace distances. Not those of the object i've drawn in model space.
f.e.: if i draw a line of 100 mm in model, and my zoom e on it in a viewport of 420, I'll get the distance 420. Like the dimension is not interacting with the model, see? Thought it would have something to do with the snapping, but can't find the link.
We do a lot of labeling in paper space and have been encountering a problem with our dimension command mislabeling lengths and widths. Please see attached DWG. The road width should be 24' and its labeling it 880'. BUT measuring hoizontally it seemed to work fine. Really strange.
I am using the dimension command and snapping nearest and perpendicular. If I just click without using osnap it seems to work.
We tried using the DIM / DIMFLAC / V / and selectiong viewport
The funny thing is that I dont have this problem with every drawing. Just some seem to have this glitch.
In paperspace I have a left and right view. If i dimension something in left view it appears backwards in right. do i need to duplicate geometry for right view to dimension it there also? or is there a way to fix the reversed dimension?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a little drawing in modelspace. in paperspace, i have a viewport. let's say it's set at 1/4" = 1'-0". everything looks okay so far.
i click on the 'annotate' tab, and then select 'annotative' for my dimension style. it has the little triangle icon thingy so it should be annotative.
i make a couple of simple linear dimensions on my drawing (still in paperspace). looks okay so far.
but now lets say i want to change the scale of my drawing. i change it from 1/4" to 1/2" = 1'-0". my drawing gets bigger, but the dimensions stay the same size and position. they're no longer attached to anything on my drawing.
then i change the scale again, let's say back to 1/4" scale. my drawing shrinks, but as soon as it's back to it's original size, the dimensions now suddenly get twice as big and are where they should have been at 1/2".
and it continues like that, when i change my scale, the dimensions change to whatever the last scale was at, so that they're never synced up.

Dimensions placed in paperspace that are scaled by the viewports, change on their own. This happens at no apparent frequency. And for no apparent reason.
This has happened after I've saved a drawing and reopened. Also has happened when I've moved or stretched a viewport.
Currently I am using Autocad 2012, but this has been happening for some years.
Modeling 1:1 in MS, dimensioning in PS different scaled viewports. Plotted from PS, did further work both in MS/PS and notice dimension readings have scaled up by 99.98% and 100% to what they were in hard copy. Changed dims in properties but for some reason they have reverted back to the percentage increase? For example I have a 5745mm truss span that is now a 574.5 meter spanning truss!!?? Haven’t altered dimstyle at all or any scalings. Laid another dimension again in PS along side the exaggerated one using same endpoints in order to check things and it’s fine.
Would like to know what has caused the dims to scale up in PS and, how to undo the problem, hoping not to have to re-dimension.
Attached is the dwg. and yes, I have dimensioned in MS but there was a reason. It’s PS that’s causing the grief.
I am in paperspace applying dimensions to views. When making a new Mview and scaling the view all the diensions move to locations all over the drawing. Does something selected in the options I am not aware of?

When dimensioning my viewports in paperspace, I will snap using the linear or aligned dimension and it will appear to snap to the first point, but when I snap on the other end, it will go somewhere way off the viewport or give me a "0" dim.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been dimensioning my 3-D model in paper space, but my dimensions are wrong and I don't understand why. The height on this drawing attached was drawn as 3'-9" but everytime I try to dimension it in paper space it reads as 3'-3 1/4". And my width should be 2'-6" and it keeps reading as 1'-11 1/4". I have no idea where this came from, and I have double checked my work several times now, it was drawn correctly. And on top of all that, now that I have been messing with it, my dimension no longer changes to oblique the right way, I think I may have changed a setting along the way and made things worse.

Instead of it being 1.8288 meters for 6 ft., it's showing as 1828.8. Everything I read says to 'just move the decimal'. But how do I do that without overriding the actual dimension?

Example, I have export set up for iPad resolution, 2048x1536px at 264ppi. If I now export an 3264x4928px image it should be resized to 1356x2048px. What I get is 1356x2047 instead, one pixel too short on the long side. This doesn't happen for all images source resolutions and ratios though. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.
I was adding a lot of aligned dimensions to a drawing and some where along the way they changed from aligned dimensions to rotated dimensions, even in the same string of dimensions.

I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.
Is there any way I can make exploded dimensions in an old drawing become live dimensions again.

Also be sure to pick the 'aligned dimension' method and not the 'linear dimension'. I hope that works in Revit as it does in AutoCAD.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor those who are using paperspace and want to dimension your modelspace 3D part.
1. Create a new dimstyle called 3D Standards (copy from your already standard dimstyle), the only thing you are going to change is the text alignment, change it to align with dimension lines.
2. In modelspace use your 3 point UCS and select 3 points on part how dim. will lay. So, if you need to dim. top, then pick 3 points on top, ect...
3. Change the dimscale to reflect the same scale as the viewport.
4. When finished dimensioning your part, select (Changespace) and select all dimensions (if you want all your dimensions to be in paperspace.
A file created over a year ago (I believe with AutoCAD 2010) is needing to be updated. I have AutoCAD 2012 and when I open it there is no text in my Paper Space. However, if my manager is to open the same exact file with his AutoCAD 2012 he can clearly see all of the text is still in place. Is there a setting somewhere that I have missed that may be making the text not show up? All layers are on and visible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've worked on a command that automatically imports a dwg into paperspace and positions it. I've just realized that when imported vertically, the titleblock is on the wrong side of the layout. I've imported it to (10,10,0) and would like to import to those exact opposite co-ordinates to essentially flip it but i'm a bit unclear as to how. I know that I can use the commands Database.PextMax and Database.PextMin to determine the max and min points of the primary layout, but what co-ordinates are these, are they the top right corner and bottom right corner.

when it comes to viewports in paperspace in 2013, due to the nature of my work i have several layout drawings all drawn on top of each other and all with ther own txt and dims etc, which again is all on top of each other making it impossible to work in model space, for this reason i work in paperspace within a viewport but now i have upgraded to 2013 while i am in mid command e.g. dimension and zoom into first point then zoom back out and in again to second point, by this time i have been kicked out of the viewport and just in paperspace so cant complete the command, doesnt always happen?

And then, when I set up a viewport in paper space even 1/128"=1'-0" is too small. I'm using a size 24"x36" paper. Everything is set to 1:1 and I drew 1:1 in model space. Previously, another person drew this drawing and it fit on an 8x11 sheet of paper at 1:10, but mine doesn't fit on 24x36.What did I do wrong?
