AutoCad :: How To Import Files Into AnSYS CFD Simulator
Mar 27, 2013
I have a design I made in Autocad and I would like to test its aerodynamic properties (lift and drag vs velocity from all angles).
How can I import the Autocad drawing in AnSYS without losing data or by losing as little as possible ?
What format should the Autocad file be converted to in order to keep it properties but be usable for analysis in AnSYS?
Used autocad CFD for evaluating lift and drag behavior of a wing at different angles (all angles from all directions)?

I have build a solid in inventor. I want to optimize the model in ANSYS, so I need the ANSYS code of the geometry. If I import a file into ANSYS (i´m importing .SAT and x_t parasolid) the geometry code does not show.
how can I save a part in inventor with ANSYS code, or any way to convert any CAD format to ANSYS code?

I am trying to calculate flex on a metal ring I have designed and are a bit confused with the contacts that I am getting when using automatic contacts.
Please see the pictures attached for reference.
When I use automatic contacts I get all bonded contacts, but I get the impression that bonded contacts are welded and that is not the case with my design it is bonded using bolts.
Which contacts would you use for this part? Or should I simplify it? Can I run it in the stress simulator?

Ideally I would like to use the nVidia normal map filter plugin - it's for Photoshop, and although, apparently, you can use some photoshop plugins, this one does not seem to work.
First question - is there a way to use the nVidia plugin?
Next - is there a Corel way?
I have created my own greyscale heightmap images and I can export red channel for alpha. Then I flood fill the red channel black and the blue channel white and export the RGB as the colour part. Creating a dds image gives me a pseudo bumpmap
BUT
Whenever I use this kind of bumpmap I get the effect I want on the aircraft models, but for some reason, "my" bumpmaps seem to remove the polygon smoothing of the 3D models so that when I "fly" the aircraft, I actually see the polygons instead of the smotthed mdl surface. This photbucket link shows what I mean.
The left hand image shows the original bumpmap on the original model. The next image shows modified artwork on the same model. Then I have change to a "D-i-Y" bumpmap and the last two show that although the desired bumps are there, I now have the wireframe polygons visible.

I am an archaeologist working with survey equipment and Map3D for a few years but now I have the following problem.
When I import the shapefiles created in my leica/topcon equipment into Map3D (mapimport) there is the possibility to select which attributes are going to be imported with an import profile file (.ipf).
How do I create the above and save it so that I do not have to go through the same process again?

I am currently using a Nikon D7100 and recording my photos in the Raw/NEF-RAW format. Recently, whenever I am uploading my photos to Lightroom 5, my photos are changing to .dng files rather than staying in the NEF file. When I go and look back at my previous imports from the past few times, they are in NEF and NOT in .dng. Why is this doing this and how do I turn this feature off so that my files remain the same going from my camera to my computer through importation.

I just upgraded to a 5D and LR4.. when I import the files load as CR2 files, not DNG files. When the files import it takes 4 files to find them. It also will not recognize the file names in the library. How do I fix this to import like it did in LR 3??

I want to import a csv file into map3D and set the layers to which the blocks with attributes are inserted on. Using
Click Home tab > Data panel > Import From Files > mapimport.
Problem is, when I do this, I do not get the dialog that the help file says I should, like a place to define an insert layer or schema. All I get is the plain dialog that asks for formatting (file format such as autodesk up loadable file), Z unit, Coordinate system, and create block.
I also want to export the attribute data into a survey point file.

I just downloaded AutoCad Architecture 2013 and I am having trouble importing DWG files. When I select the file nothing happens. I had AutoCad 2012 for Mac and it worked fine. I switched to 2013 for PC via Parallels on my iMac because I was told that the PC version was better than Mac.

If there is a way to import shape files into Autocad LT?
I have tried using the freeware converters such as Cad tools but have no way of opening the avx file, also tried Import Shape from ABC Autocad but have hit a wall there too. This made me wonder if its even possible in LT.
I managed to install the Import Shape program but it installs a bunch of files I don't think I am able to use. It gives me the following error when I run the SCR it installs. "Command: (defun LISP command is not available."

I am trying to import a ProE created STP or STEP file of a solid model into 2012. STP does not seem to be an option under format types. AutoCAD Mechanical 2012 seems to import the file just fine and it looks and act like a solid. I saved the file out in dwg format. When I try to import the dwg file into Inventor or just open it, a "styles conflict" dialog box comes up even though the dwg file being imported and the ipt file being used are the standard versions that come with the programs. If I click OK an idw file opens displaying a blank sheet. Then Inventor acts like it is done with the task.

The company I work for is looking into buying new AutoCAD software due to upgrading computers. We don't use 3D commands at all and are looking into purchasing the LT version for budgeting reasons. What we are trying to find out now is if you can export and import SHP files from GIS ESRI software. Are you able to edit the SHP files if necessary?

I created a task to import (convert) a specified folder of MDT files using a specified ini file to ignore the layout drawings (tests resulted in near-useless idws with most missing drawing views - mainly due to our ignorance in creating MDT drawings). I specified a subfolder as the destination for the converted ipt files. After the task runs, the ipt files appear in the main folder (where I did not want them), while the destination folder has files with the names of <original part number>.dwg.ipt. The ipt and dwg.ipt files appear identical and have the same feature tree.
A typical entry in the Import.txt file is:
22926.dwg Get Translator Success ...InventorConvert MDT Files
dwg 22926.dwg Open Success ...InventorConvert MDT Files
dwg 22926.dwg Import Success ...InventorConvert MDT FilesInventor parts converted from MDT files22926.dwg.ipt
dwg 22926.dwg Close Success ...InventorConvert MDT Files
So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. It appears to be mainly working, but it will require cutting/pasting/deleting I wasn't expecting. The main goal here is to create ipt files that our CAM system can (we hope) work directly with, as they dumped the MDT translators a while back.

I thought I'd share a little discovery we made here yesterday. Before we upgraded to Inventor 2013, there was a lot of fuss and hesitation due to 2013 not having the AMDT import wizard functionality. This lack of functionality was also confirmed by our VAR.
I can confirm that Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 DOES have the usual Mechanical Desktop import wizard.
I can also confirm that it still doesn't bring in extruded text :-)
I've attached a collection of screenshots as proof.
