View 9 RepliesHow to develop 2D contour diagrams for noise contour diagrams. If you look at examples essentially it is just taking plotted noise data over layed on top of a particular drawing showing representative noise measurements. From my understanding of creating contours it is a matter of triangulating the data points.

Not sure if what i'm doing is right or wrong, I've never used civil 3d. But i'm getting break-line errors whenever i'm trying to create the surface from the contour lines.

I am using Civil 3D 2011 and wondering how to create just one contour on an existing surface at a specific elevation. I need to show where floodwaters would get to at a specific elevation so that contour would be the easiest way if I can contour the surface with just 1 elevation. I don't want to have to create 0.1' contours all over the site and then remove all the extras.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI need to create a truncated contour map based on data from a .asc file. I have connected the .asc file but there is no option for adding with query so I have brought the whole file in.
I then created a contour layer and added to map (all good so far) but when attempting to query this layer for my area of interest nothing appeared on screen.
I then did some manipulation of the sdf to create polylines at the contour elevation and tried to MAPTRIM but I stopped Civil 3D after having "not responding" for 15 minutes

I am working on a project, I was given a file with the contour already mapped out. I am tasked with finding volume of a fill I had to create. I made a 3-D polyline at the elevation I want my fill to start from and going down to my final grade. How can I make surfaces with my map. I do not have any files to make the surface off of. What is the easiest way I can make a layer, TIN has already been done but no surfaces are in the file.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI was comparing a few drafting and was curious if CorelDraw X6 had the ability to create contour plots using 3-dimensional spatial data (e.g., topographic surveys). Basically, what I was looking to do was import a table (say from excel) with a number of data points which each have three coordinate locations (X, Y, Z). I would be looking for the program to take these data points and be able to draw lines or shading between them in essentially what would be a topographic map (contour map). In the past, I have used another program called Surfer to create the contour maps, and have then had to import the exported image to an older version of CorelDraw.

I am trying to create an outline color for contour cutting and I have the outline color in my spot colors but now I was wondering if I could apply these change to all the images at once instead of changing each one.
Take a look at a sample diagram I've created for my company. I'm torn on what scale or even what units I should be using, since I am not drawing real objects. When I took an entry level class, it was so much easier doing the assignments because we used a scale that made sense based on what we were drawing.

I am using the rectangle tool in "Paths" mode and even though it will draw a rectangle I cannot see it in the layer. Its all grey and when I hide other layers and just leave the rectangle layer open I cannot see it.
How can I do this? Also how am I able to adjust the line thickness?
I have a number of images which are all mainly line diagrams of equipment. I'm trying to tidy up the images (they were created using xfig years ago) using gimp. The aim is to smooth them out and neaten them up a bit.

I need publishing a PDF from a Word document full of diagrams created with Adobe Illustrator CS6. My diagrams are all vector. I am free to export them anyway I like. My Word doc has many cross-references, footnotes and Endnote references and a large table of contents. It is a few hundred pages long, with around 50 diagrams. I would like to preserve the original quality of the vector art and the intra-document clickable links.
Each step in the process has multiple possible paths, and each path often many options. There are 3 steps:
1) Export from Illustrator to: .ai, .pdf, .eps, .wmf, .emf
optional 1b) Convert (eg. use Acrobat to convert .ai to .doc, .eps or .ps)
2) Import to Word: drap and drop, file cut and paste, insert picture, insert object, insert object linked to file, PDF Reflow (Word 2013). I tried them all.
3) Publish to PDF from Word. Many different paths...
- Print to PDF: I have AdobePDF, PDFCreator, NovaPDF printers installed
- Save as... : Save as->AdobePDF or Save as->PDF or XPS
- Plugin toolbars: Acrobat->CreatePDF, NovaPDF->Save as PDF, PDF Architect->Convert
or
- Save as .doc and convert with Adobe Acrobat.
I have tried many different permutations. There are 4 possible errors:
E1 - The diagrams are converted into bitmaps.
E2 - The diagrams are 'linearised' - curves are converted into chains of linear sections
E3 - The diagrams are corrupted - text missing, characters changed, dotted lines become solid lines etc.
E4 - Hyperlinks are lost.
Here are some results of my tests.
I see no difference so far between Word 2007 and Word 2013. Results below stand for both.There is no difference between Word->Acrobat->CreatePDF and Acrobat->Convert Word to PDF.Illustrator -> AI -> Acrobat -> Word almost works, but diagrams are corrupted in various ways (eg. dashed lines become solid).When export from Illustrator as EPS level 2, EPS level 3, EMF, WMF and PDF and get different results depending on the path to PDF:
No links preserved:
Word->Print to AdobePDF: Good: eps2, eps3, emf Bad: PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Print to PDFArchitect: Good: eps2, eps3, emf Bad: PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Print to PDFCreator: Good: eps2, eps3, emf Bad: PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Print to NovaPDF: Good: - Bad: eps2 (E2), eps3 (E2/E3), emf (E3), PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Toolbar->PDFArchitect: Simply prints with current postscript printer. One of above.
Links preserved:
Word->Save as AdobePDF: Good: - Bad: eps2 (E2), eps3 (E2/E3), emf (E3), PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Save as PDForXPS: Good: - Bad: eps2 (E2), eps3 (E2/E3), emf (E1), PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Toolbar->Acrobat: Good: - Bad: eps2 (E2), eps3 (E2/E3), emf (E3), PDF (E1), wmf (E2)
Word->Toolbar->NovaPDF: Good: - Bad: eps2 (E2), eps3 (E2/E3), emf (E3), PDF(E1)
So, only the "Word->Print to PDF" pathways provide good quality vector diagrams, but none of these preserve intra-document links.
I have:
- Adobe Creative Cloud CS6 (Illustrator, Acrobat etc. all latest versions)
- Word 2007 (latest version (SP3 12.0.6683.5002))
- Word 2013 (Office 365 latest version)
- Access to a Mac with Word 2011.
How to convert a 3D Polyline contour to Polyline contour.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulties with plotting labels on pdf. I am using 2011 map3d. I am struggling with labeling contours. Basically i have shape file which draws out isometrical lines, then i label contours, everything looks nice/works before plotting but when i plot it on pdf, it basically seems to do a selective plotting of contour labels (all the contours are plotted nicely). Some contour areas are covered nicely, some have only few left, but most parts have none.
My drawing is basically large tiff and shape file on top of it. Contour lines are covering slightly bigger area than the tiff file. contour labels that are actually plotted are mostly drawn on the bottom and left part of the drawing (plus they also seems to be somewhat following the vertical measurements, as if they are only drawn to a certain height or so), mostly out of the tiff part, but also partially continue on top of tiff, until are not plotted anymore. When i want to view contour labels on the whole drawing area, i basically have to "dr" tiff to back, altough drawing order is set so that tiff is drawn first and then other are placed. Sometimes it just boggles my mind why CAD acts like this. If it wouldnt draw any contour labels, i would understand, but it basically does it partially/regionally somehow and even then there are those regions, where labels are drawn only partially, but are still drawn.
It has got to be something to do with the size of the labels compared to the screen. At the moment size context is set to "map space" and when i look at the drawing in model, i can see all the labels nicely (they are drawn in absolute units and are not relative to screen). When i look at it in the layout (layout scale is set to 1 mm=1), i can only see lower part of the drawing covered in labels. As i increase the size units, it gradually draws labels to the upper northern part also.
I was suggested to export the contours and labels as a dwg,open it and then plot it, but what happens is that map3d seems to be able to export only 2000 items (labels). I am sure it would work, if i somehow could manage to export all the contour labels. I am going to add a picture also just to give a better understanding of the problem. Polyline marks the tiff image location and basically the black dots are the labels that are being plotted.
The thing is, that it actually copies exactly 2000 labels into text, which seems to be corresponding to the "rasterthreshold" command limit of 2000, is it just a coincidence?
I've got a routine that gets the surface, I can rename the surface, get the min and max elevations,... But when i want to add a ContourData there is a problem.
I set up a SurfaceAnalysisContourdata (see code below), when I try to add the maximum elevation to the array I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Dim cdata(0) As SurfaceAnalysisContourData
cdata.Initialize()
With cdata(0)
.MaximumElevation = TextBox1.Text 'Maximum surface

When generating a line of contour labels with Contour-Multiple, most of the labels are orientated properly but some of them on the line are rotated 180 degrees. Why aren't they ALL orientated in the same direction?
Also, sometimes, all of them will be orientated in the wrong direction such that they are, essentially, upside down. Is this a bug or is there a setting to adjust?
I have recreated two surfaces for my design, existing and proposed. I had used polylines for contours for in each surface. I tried labeling the contours but it will not let me select the contour itself.
I then tried to make the contours to 3d polylines and again added them to the surface and rebuilt. I still am not allowed to label the contour since it doesn't let me select the polyline. I am able to select the surface however.
I am trying to draw/create my own contour map from scratch. I am going to draw chemical concentration contours on a site rather than elevation contours. How to do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I create a grid from our OSIP DEM files the contours come in as a block. I usually do 1' and 5' contours. I would like to break these so that when I select a 1' contour it will show up individually with elevation data still attached. If you select one now, it selects the entire grid. If you explode it, you lose the grid file. Is there a way to do this or will a just have to label the contours so I know where I am at?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I have finally been able to create a surface that I like and slice some 3D solids using this surface. But now I would like to draw some contour lines of that surface. I have seen some videos about creating contour lines (such as this one: URL.... ). But in this video they import the surface using the 'connect to data' button in the toolspace area. Is it possible to insert a surface from your drawing into the toolspace area and then draw the contour lines? I managed to insert the layer containing the surface using Data --> Add drawing data --> Drawing layer... but I cannot change style or create contour lines.

Unable to create contour labels
Issue You were unable to create contour labels. When you tried to create a single contour label, you could not select any of the contour lines of a surface. When you tried to create multiple contour labels, the contour label line disappeared after you selected the second point.
I have a plain 3d contour map with all the lines on the same layer.
I want to make it readable in 2d by changing the linetype of each so it's easier to read.
The map is pretty large, I was hoping there was some way I could isolate all lines with the same Z Vertex so I could do an entire elevation at once?
I cannot import contour lines generated from a TIN. Not always, but this one time. I receive instead boxes with text in them stating "AeccPbCogoPoint"
how not to get this message and receive actual points and polylines?
I have a client that just started using C3D 2010. When I sent him a topographic survey with contour lines (I am also using C3D 2010) he called me and asked if there was a way to select an individual contour line and have it display the elevation in the 'properties' dialog box. I have not been able to find an answer for him.
