AutoCad 3D :: 3D Extrude Or Sweep - Glass Block Out In Concrete - Complex Path
May 11, 2011I have this part that need to be extrude along a complex path. However, every time i try this the bottom of the part does not stay parallel the the x-axis.

Feb 5, 2014While working in the conceptual mass environment, I have inserted a closed profile (1 polyline) from a dwg file.
What I need is to either extrude or sweep this profile as a surface, but obviously Create Form only gives me the solid option.
How do I go about doing this?

But somehow it isnt working.Then I tried to create this figure myself by creating two circles (one at the top and the other at the bottom) and then creating the path for using the sweep command , but it gives a error " sweep produces self intersecting curves".
convert this surface in to a sloid volume or if thats not possible can this geometry be created to the nearest possible approximation.
AutoCad 3D :: Winding Stair Stringer - Sweep Command Options
Dec 27, 2011I need to SWEEP the yellow rectangle in this drawing along the magenta 3DPOLYLINE. This is a stair stringer for a winding stair I'm trying to model. The trouble is that when I SWEEP it the rectangle begins to rotate and ends up all out of whack once it gets to the top.
As I understand it, this is something that AutoCAD does not handle well and something like 3DsMax does. Problem is I don't have 3Ds Max and if I recall correctly there is a way to do this within AutoCAD. I just don't understand the SWEEP command options well enough. I've tried setting Align to No and Twist to the 270° that this thing runs, but each time I end up with the stringer rotated out of place.

Jun 6, 2013I have attached a sheet metal part (2014 .ipt) and am having issues trying to use the rip command, maybe my understanding of the rip command is unclear, and I should probably just create a sketch and extrude a slit.
Using the image below as a reference,
What I want to do is to create a rip or slit from P1 to P2, which will give me face C. After this rip, I want to bend face C at P1 so that it is parallel to face A, leaving face B at its current state.
(the construction lines are from the existing frame that this will be welded to.)
My 2 solutions are to create this slit using the extrude command then fold, or to cut face C out completely and add a flange to that cut edge. I am just curious why the rip command is not letting me create a slit from P1 to P2.
AutoCad 3D :: Unable To Sweep Object When Attempting Helical Sweep For Pipe Thread
Dec 22, 2012I am attempting to model an internal 1/8"-27 NPT thread, both the through hole and the tapered part of the hole are modeled, but after I draw the helix and the polygon and orient the polygon to the helix correctly, (or even if I don't, I have tried it) it keeps saying unable to sweep object. I am using Sweep with Alignment with the No option. If I select the polygon first, then click sweep, it works, but rotates the polygon so that what I get ends up looking nothing like a thread profile.
I have tried reducing the polygon radius down to a ridiculously small value, thinking it might have been interference due to a possible trig miscalculation, but with no success, still have the same issue. FYI, I am using a .037" turn height for 27 TPI and a polygon radius of .0214", with a helix small end radius of .177" and large end radius of .189".

Jun 7, 2013I have a tunnel profile that I need to sweep around a path. This path is a 3D Polyline but it has arcs and slope associated with it. The sweep command has this automatic banking or twisting to it that just screws everything up. The profile needs to stay perpendicular to the path and the floor of this tunnel needs to remain flat.
I have attached the actual working drawing. It has the profile (which is a simple typical tunnel) and the path all situated.I'm working in AutoCAD 2012 if that really matters.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Create A 3D Sweep
Aug 1, 2013Trying to create a 3D sweep. I want to keep the sweep parallel to the XZ plane (like a parting surface). In the attached part, there is a SweepSrf3 that has sort of what I am trying to do, but it does not go all the way around the path. Notice how the sweep is parallel to the plane. I tried to do the same thing in SweepSrf4, by selecting the 3D Sketch1 as the path, Sketch2 as the profile, and Workplane2 as the Guide Surface. That failed.
In SweepSrf4, the only way that I could get the sweep to come close to working was to use the 3D Sketch1 as the guide rail and the circle as the Path. Seems like I need to use the circle as the guide rail and the 3D Sketch1 as the path to get what I want... but that fails.

Jan 24, 2012Is it possible to sweep a solid along a 3d sketched line path to cut a groove / slot? This is like milling a slot in material on a milling machine so the cutter goes along a path removing material.
I can draw a rectangle that represents the side plane of a slot type cutter and this works but in the corners it is not working like a round cutter and leaves sharp corners which then need filleting to finish, but also I am not sure if it is cutting exactly as if a solid round/cylinder cutter would.

Jun 5, 2013I find it absurd that AutoCad C3D doesn't have a vehicle sweep routine built in to the design software. This is as basic to roadway design as super elevation is to horizontal curvature.
Buying third party software such as AutoTurn or Pathplanner R4 seems ridiculous.

Mar 5, 2013I am having difficulty aligning the profile for a sweep feature. I need the profile to be normal to the path, but aligned vertically. In other words, the rectangular profile should remain "plumb" along the entire sweep. Is there a simple way to do this?
I have shared the sample files, trying to use the profile in two different ways, through Dropbox (they are too large to upload). I am using Inventor 2013.

Jan 8, 2014I am trying to sweep a profile throughout the helical sweep path which is a series of 3d sketches. The sweet prifile sweeps correctly to the first 3d sketch profile but whin I select the second line the preview is gone and Inventor gives me an error saying the sweep cannot be done. how I can have the sweep done throughout the helical structure.Attached is the ipt file.

Mar 22, 2012I tried the tube and pipe run to build this segment, and cannot select the route from the 3D sketch.
This route was based off of a 3D sketch made from included geometry from another part.
Tried sweeping too - and get error that the sweeping operation did not produce a meaningful result.
But I don't get the self intersecting error.
All this is is a .250 OD and .180ID profile that needs to be run through the path.
I included the part file.

Currently, I'm manually creating cables profiles using plines from existing 2D drawings and the sweep function.. a very cumbersome taks.
I was wondering whether there is a way to speed this process up. At the moment, I draw a circle, copy it myriads of times, and sweep each along the dozens of plines (one by one). I cannot select multiple lines and sweep them all, can I?

Feb 28, 2011i used to use Solidwork's sweep-cut with a solid body feature but i can't find it in Inventor now.
Procedure:
In part file;
Create a second solid body (must be axis-symetric, like revolved feature),
Create a path that intersects with the solid (can be a line or a curve),
Sweep the solid along the path with cut command.
I need this where the sweep-cut with a profile is not enough, to get surfaces obtainable by milling on a cylindirical body on a helical path.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Sketch Disappears After Sweep
Sep 1, 2013So I have a 3D sketch. As you can see in the image attached, there are circles on a 2D plane that are attached to circles on another 2D plane via all the purple lines. My goal is to do a sweep for each of the circles so that I can get a bunch of holes. However, after I do the first sweep, the sketch disappears (see pic 2) and I do not know how to go back to the sketch so I can sweep again and again.

It generates a 3D spline, guide rail, and tool profile, but we're having trouble figuring out how to do the actual "sweep with guide rail" using the API.
Attached is an .ipt of the shapes our program is generating automatically. The problem is we are having to manually create the sweep after the geometry is created.
How can we automate the sweep with guide rail process?
