AutoCad 3D :: CHAMFEREDGE Distance Setting
Jul 26, 2012
I am looking for an explanation on CHAMFEREDGE Distance1 and Distance 2 Setting with respect to UCS or VIEW. I usually do it by trial and error but an explanation as to where Distance 1 and 2 are applied will be great.

what dimension setting controls the distance in which dimension text is offset when it doesn't fit between extension lines.
See attached image for example.

I have created an item made up of lines, circles and arcs. One side line distance will control all other sides, circles and arcs. I applied geometric constraints and then Dimensional constraints. D1 is the distance that will control all other objects. I have it working so that when I change D1, the sides adjust accordingly and the arcs and circles keep their geometry.
I was wondering if there is a way to add a range of distances for D1 so that if someone goes below the minimum value, nothing happens and if you go above the maximum value, nothing happens? I know if you make a block, you can make a list of distances for D1 to move. Is there a way to do this in the design drawing? Although, I don't just want a set range, I would like any distance between, say, 8 - 12 inches.
I tried to set some parameters in the Parameters Manager with no luck. Maybe there is an expression to use? Where would you find this expression if there is one?

I have this classic kitchen situation: two boards (in the drawing one is a box, the other a extruded polyline) forming an inner corner. While chamfering all the outside edges I come across one edge (in the drawing the long one of the long board) where I want to chamfer the edge only from the right corner to the point where the two boards meet.

I am trying to oTrack distance from the top circle edge of a cylinder to a certain distance ... whenever i try to do that ... it either track to x and y .. but not in z :/ ... the video i have on you tube he did it so simply and it seems to be easy .
I am not sure what is wrong .. but i heard parallel and perspective view could make a difference .. i actually try both :/ ...

I would like to draw a smiple line using the transparent command 'AD (angle-distance).
My distance is not horz., so I want to enter the Vertial angle and the slope-distance, in LLD the command was AD VD.
So how do you do this in Civil 3D 2012.

Best practices for setting up systems in a lab environment. We have a lab enviroment of about 200 systems that access AutoCad, Inventor, Mechanical and others.
We need to have a customized interface come up when Autocad is opened by students.I have read that you can do this with profiles and workspaces and also with loading a acad.lsp file.
In the past we have just copied the Windows admin profile used to customize AutoCad to the default profile. In AutoCad 2013 that does not seem to grab everything. It doesn't seem to be the best way to do what we need.
We will also be moving to Windows 7 soon which will also cause an issue.I want to find the best way to do this with out having to deal with the Windows profile.

I am trying to get the distance of multiple block insertions that fall along a polyline to the startpoint/endpoint of said polyline.I can do this pretty easily using straight line (as the crow flies) distances between the block insertion and the polyline startpoint/endpoint, but I need the code to actually follow the polyline whenever it changes angle.
Is this possible using .NET? How to start it?Below is my code to to get the straight line distance between the polyline startpoint and block insertion point:
Dim dist As Double = Math.Sqrt((acPline.StartPoint.X - acBref.Position.X) * (acPline.StartPoint.X - acBref.Position.X) + (acPline.StartPoint.Y - acBref.Position.Y) * (acPline.StartPoint.Y - acBref.Position.Y))

It's the strangest thing. I'll draw a 6' long line, go to measure it and it comes up as 5-'6-1/2".
Units are set to architectural at 1/16" precision
Measureinit is set at 0
The drawing is copied from another file which I did not create.

How to get a point in the polyline with a set distance and obeying my current ucs. A projection of the point as an orthogonal snap.
I wrote a code creating a polyline between the lowest and the highest initial polyline and obtaining the intersection. But when it comes to many points the rendering is quite time consuming.

Here goes= If i have a rectangle that is 27.125 X 27.5 and i want to chamfer a corner, but i also have a set distance(or the hypotenuse) Which is 22. How can i get it to put that angle in there with out trial & error of drawing a 22" long line on a 45 degree angle and moving it till it fits properly, then trimming off the corners... I have tried all the different commands in chamfer, the best i can do is guess at the distance, which is a crap shoot to me.

Using Autocad 2000LT, Windows XP
1) One circle is inside the other circle, need to measure distance from the outside edge of one circle to the to the outside edge of the larger circle?
2) One circle inside the other circle, need to measure from the center of the larger circle to the nearest outside edge of the smaller circle?
3) Circles are near each other and need to measure from the outside edge of one circle to the outside edge of the other circle?

what the minimum distance between two 3D rectangles is. I can do trial and error using the INTERFERE command (Acad 2012) and move the 2 groups until they stop hitting each other, but I wanted to see if there is a command in ACAD that will tell me how close 2 objects pass.
I have an old pile foundation group for 4 tower legs and I wanted to see how close I could get the new pile group to the old group. I'll try to attach a dwg file with 3 options I was trying. The old group is in Cyan and the new group is Red.
I'm guessing I could use UCS and set it on one of the piles and measure to the closest old pile, but the screen gets so cluttered. Is there a way to only show a slice through the objects?

I'm using AutoCad LT 2007, so I understand I may not be able to do this.
I have two object, such as circles, and they are a certain distance apart. It does not matter. I have an object/text between them that does not fit between them. I cannot scale the inside object as it has to be the same size as the others of it's kind. I would like to take the two circles and put a greater distance between them. In other words I want there distance to go from, say, 5 units to 10 units without moving the center point of the two objects. I was thinking something similar to: select the two objects, select the midpoint of the two objects, and enter the command to change the distance between them. Almost like a stretch command out from a center point, but with two objects. I can find the center point of the two objects, that's no problem.
This is the way I do it now, and I'm trying to find a quicker way to improve my AutoCad skills. Select the object on the right and move it right a certain distance, then select the left object and move it left the same distance. It works, it's just slow.

is there a way to change the way distance is measured in a drawing from fractional to decimal? I get drawings that always display dimensions in fractions and being an engineer not a carpenter I need dimensions to be decimal so I am not forced to look up what the decimal equivalent of a fraction is all the time. I am amazed that AC doesn't force me to input dimensions as fractions on these drawings.
This is another one of those options that appears to be hidden but should be available in a real page setup option or in the options. Unlike the current page setup which seems to be a print setup instead. I love hidden options, like when I made the mistake of changing the default fractional style that I am now stuck with. I love being caught between 2 bad options. Either I have to put up with being asked constantly if I want to change how fractions are displayed or I can't change the default ever again.

I am trying to find a routine that will allow me to offset an arc by a distance and to a scale.
The offest command is very limited as to how far I am able to offset without the boject completely vanishing.
I am trying to make a flat pattern from a cone or something close to it. The routines and programs that I have found do not quite accomplish this very accuratll. They are always off on the upper and lower arcs and on the distance between the arcs. Tho this would not completely sovle my problem, it would allow me to get the distance between the top and bottom correct.

I have located steel beams of an existing building roof frame. I am being asked to provide a distance from the theoretical roof to these points. The roof is sloped and I can create the sloped roof plane but I am unsure how to get the distance from the point to perpendicular to the theoretical roof slope, not the difference in elevation. Also would it be possible to label or make a table?
I am using Autocad 2013.

I used direct-distance entry to place the dimensions 3/8 away from the object lines... needless to say, while most horizontal dimensions are 3/8 away, the vertical and inclined dimensions are not. see attached. other than creating construction geometry and physically moving the endpoints of the arrows to the correct location, is there any way of getting this precise and correct the first time i do it?
