AutoCad 2D :: How To Use Different Weights Of Universe Typeface For Drawings
Nov 21, 2013
I'm trying to use different weights of the Univers typeface for my drawings - I have several condensed weights in .ttf format. They work perfectly fine in all other programs but in AutoCAD, all of them are showing up weird and jagged except for one, which will only show normally when bolded in the MTEXT formatting. I'm very much a beginner but I've never had this problem with any other fonts I've tried before - what am I doing wrong?
I'm using AutoCAD 2011 on a Windows 7 system.
Attached image - both lines of text are the same font (Univers LT Condensed) but the one on top is bolded in the MTEXT formatting options.

What controls the line weight in idw drawings in Inventor 13? If I zoom in on a section the line gets wider as I zoom in until it looks like a pdf drawing. I don't have this issue with Inventor 12.

For some reason when I use my Paint Skin weights tool, the mesh does not go into a grey scale type shader. Instead, the textured model is still displayed instead of the black and doesn't display weight values in the greyscale I'm used to.
Did I mess up settings somewhere? I know I'm in Paint Skin Weights tool because I can see the bones when it goes into Xray. I can open other scene files and can view the weights just fine.
Note: I have tried the following fixes: copied the mesh into a new scene, made sure it wasn't a subdiv shape.
I am using Maya 2010

When i select my mesh and click paint weights i get this error:
// Error: file: D:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2012/scripts/others/skinClusterInflMenu.mel line 568: No object matches name: LeftLung.liw //
LeftLung is a joint and i figure liw is "Lock Influence Weights".
I can change settings in the tool and then go to paint and it is a red x through a red circle. When i click to paint it resets all settings in the tool and logs absolutely nothing to the script editor, even with Echo All Commands on.
This leads to the next problem, locking weights is doing nothing at all. Locking them by selecting the joint or using the component editor shows them as "on" but it does not actually lock in any way. Putting influence to any other joint will remove/change the influence on the locked joints.

I am trying to place an EPS file into an illustrator file using Illustrator CS5 MAC.
The EPS file created in a CAD program uses the Garamond system font.
When I place the file, Ilustrator changes the font to bArial. Find Font doesn't show either Arial or Garamond.
I can open the EPS and see that it has Garamond.
How can i get illustrator to use the font in the EPS file when placed?

We have some extruded text that has yellow fill. Unfortunately, if we apply a bevel from the extrusion toolbar, the text turns light cyan and white instead of shades of yellow. Furthermore, we see no way to adjust the colors for the bevel applied within an extrusion. Why is the text face color changing?

As the title says Illustrator will not let me change typeface or type size. I am working on CS6 and Windows 8 platform. When I click the type button, the type size and selection does not appear, it stays with the stroke and variable width profile selectors. Is there any fix without unistall reinstall?

I'm using ACAD LT 2008.
When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.

Every now and then I go back and try to use publish to speed up printing but I always go back to plotting one by one.
I work in a housing construction office and I have 10 separate drawings side by side in model space for house plans that I need plot separate to give to certain people. My problem isn't that I can't publish them separately its that I can't save them over existing pdf's individually predetermined.
Q1. do i just have to go through and change every layout name before or after i publish?
Q2. how do i change the output publish location?
Q3. can each layout be saved to a different existing pdf and remember it?
Q3. can i save these setting across to a new drawing?

this might be a little specialized but i use corel generally to layout architectural drawings. I export them from autocad usually as a .pdf with a variety of different line weights, I notice its not the .pdf but corel tends distort or alter these line weights which typically undoes hours of hard work, is there a way to make these line weights transfer more smoothly to corel?

When we do DWG we may have more than one Assembly on one individual DWG. When going to put the weights on the DWG through the text/Physical Property insert yadayada it keeps referring back to the original assembly. Even after changing which component we want the info to be drawn from, it refers back to the original? Are we not doing this right? Program glitch?

I have noticed for many years (since ADT 2006...) that the OTB line weights seem to plot the same. For example, I don't notice much difference (actually none at all) on paper between A-Sect-Thin, A-Sect-Med, A-Sect-Fine, A-Dtl-Fine, etc... I have always remedied this by adjusting the Global Line weights, which I know is not optimal and I tell everybody else in my firm not to do it.
That being said, some of the more "seasoned" architects who are trying to use ACA are having trouble getting the line weights to print as they would have hand drawn them years ago. It has inspired me to take another stab at understanding this issue and trying to determine how it is intended to be used, and what I am doing wrong.
I have gotten the office to use the OTB - AIA LWT By Object.ctb, which I would assume coincides with the OTB AEC styles / objects. Can some one explain this to me or tell me where I am going wrong? I have the "Plot Object Lineweights" checked in the plot dialogue box, and honestly have checked and unchecked the "scale lineweights" box and notice no difference.

The line weights in the xref are as they should be - I can change the line weight (plot by layer/color) and it plots correctly; when I attached this file to another drawing, the line weights do not plot. I can change the layer color to modify the weight (.ctb file) and the correct line weight appears on the monitor, but when I plot - the line weight looks like a standard default width.
I checked the lwdefault in the xref and three other drawings, and in every drawing it is set to '25'; the lines are lines (not plines), and have a zero elevation. The units are the same as the other drawings;
I believe it's a setting in the drawing (not the xref) - what setting it might be.

I have a FrameGen BOM setup as desired and added the column for Mass/lbmass to get the weight. However on those rows where there are multiples of the Item QTY (2 of this, 3 of that) the Mass shows just the weight of one item rather than the combined weight...which is what I want. I tried making a custom property call WEIGHT and entering an expression, but in that selection I do have mass but not Item QTY as a selection.

I just had Inventor 2010 reinstalled on a new workstation with Windows 7. On any new drawings my line weights are fine.
On any drawings created before the new install, the line weights are all the wrong thicknesses now when I open them on my machine. They used to be fine and to our company standard.
How do I get it to where my line weights are correct on all idw drawings.

I am working on a new concept design for one of our customers. A critical design parameter is the weight of each of several sub-assemblies.
I have an idw of the top level assembly where I have added Parts Lists of each of the critical subs to show the weight of the components used in each sub assembly. I would like to add a line at the bottom of each Parts List that shows the total weight of that sub assembly. I would also like the header of the Parts List to display the Part Number (from the sub assembly iprops).
Is there a way to get why I want from IV? I am currently using IV 2012. I have attached a .pdf mockup of what I want.

My current code consists of a simple line to save my .idw that is produced as a .PDF.
_invApp.ActiveDocument.SaveAs(CurrentDirectory &"Submittal_Sheet_0" & drawing_count & ".pdf", True)
Within Inventor, if you select Export --> PDF, you can select an option that disregards the lineweights set in the drawing. How to set it up in VB to do that?

I'm doing a parts manual and would like to have a heavier perimeter line weight around each of my parts or sub assemblies. I know I can manually change the line weights however some lines that make up part of the perimeter also run into my part or assembly so this doesn't really work. Is there a way to get inventor to do it automatically?
I'm running inventor 2012, and generating a .dwg file from an .ipn.

I am using 2008 and have been using AutoCAD for 25 years, so this is not me! Some months ago when plotting, all my plots started coming out very feint as if all the line weights were very thin - this just happened overnight. I couldn't sort this but I have an older pc using 2005 linked to my main one, and I could plot using this one as normal (I did try installing later versions on the main pc but all plots were the same). Now, the same thing seems to have happened with the older pc but in a different way, again overnight (last week all was well) - colours have altered slightly and line weights are all plotting as default. I haven't installed or uninstalled anything, nothing has changed.

To see what I mean I attached a screenshot of a simple cylinder with the view set to shading with edges. Yeah the edges are there, but I'd really like them to stand out more.
