AutoCad 2D :: Copying And Renaming A Block
Feb 15, 2012is there any faster way to copying and renaming a block, than opening it with the block editor, doing "save as" and than inserting it again?

View 9 RepliesIs there anyway of re-naming an existing block without creating a new one? I made a rookie mistake of naming my blocks with names containing spaces i.e. 'block A' and 'block B' and have found that some routines like replace block won't work because of it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a specific problem with renaming layouts. I found some similar lisps, but I just could not make them work.
In every layout I have following attributes.
PROJECT: 306
PHASE: RD
OBJECT: A0101
PART: EL
DRAWING: 611
ZOOM: X
REVISION: 01
I need to rename every each of layout using those attributes. Layout's name should look like that: "306_rd_A0101_el_611_x_01" . "rd", "el" and "x" must be written using lowercase.
Getting into Dynamic Blocks in a big way. As the blocks we use are variants of each other, if the parameters that are created in one block can be copied into another block to save having to re-do the entire parameter sets again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am copying and pasting a block from one drawing to another but as soon as I past it, AutCAD stops responding. I have done purging and auditing and still can't solve the issue.
I am using Autocad Architecture 2012.
We have a large AutoCAD file received from a survey company consisting of one large block that I want to explode and edit. When I attempt to explode it, a portion of it disappears.
This is the fifth version of the file that we have received. The previous versions did not have that portion at all, so we had to keep sending back for it.
What's been tried:
1. Turned on/unfroze all layers and zoom extents
- No change
2. Tried both Burst and Explode
- No change
3. Tried to copy/paste into a new drawing.
- "Copy to Clipboard Failed"
4. Inserted drawing as a block into a new drawing.
- The disappearing portion did not seem to be inserted along with the rest of the drawing
5. Attempted to edit the block.
- "This block contains proxy objects and cannot be edited in the Block Editor"
AutoCAD Version:
AutoCAD Map3D 2012
I have tried to copy a object from 1 drawing to another but it doesnt work it seems to copy but the paste function does not work in the other drawing.
So i tried to wblock the object and i get a error message "write block operation rejected due to a proxy object that does not allow copying"
What is a Proxy object and how can I fix the problem?
I need a routine that will duplicate the current sheet's Layout tab and content to the next tab, set it current, delete the titleblock (by name) on the new tab and reference in a differently named titleblock, 1:1, 0,0 onto the new Layout tab. I'll be running this in a batch script.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have written this code to check the name of the layouts and determine if the are to our company standard or not and if they are close enough to determine what they should be rename them. I create a drawing with severl differant layout names to test the code but I am getting inconsistent results. The drawing I created has 9 layouts named M2_03, M2_04, m3_01, m3_02, tm01_25, tm2.05, tm2.06a, TM2_01, and TM2_02A. It seems to be crashing on the tm2.06a but I can not figure out why.
Public Class StandFix <Autodesk.AutoCAD.Runtime.CommandMethod("StandFix")> _ Public Sub StandardFixer() Dim ErrString As String = "" ErrString = ErrString & StandardizeLayoutNames() MsgBox(ErrString, MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, "Non-Standard Entities Found") End Sub

why sometimes it work and checks all the layouts, but most of the time it only does some of the layouts.
is it possible to simply rename a part?
I quite often make up quick parts to try stuff out and call them random things but if I want to change the name it is not just a simple case of renaming the part as a few things need updating.
is there a simple quick way to rename a part in one hit without going through other stuff?
I am working in Civil 3D 2010 and I created a surface a while back which 4 pipe networks have been referenced to and the surface has been data shortcut'd. I am now facing the issue that the surface needed to be renamed.
I looked in the Data Shortcuts folder and the name didn't change on the shortcut. All the pipe networks have errors now cause it is looking for a surface that technically no longer exists.
I tried deleting the Data Shortcut and creating a new one with the new name and resetting all the networks to the new surface but I am still gettting errors.
Is there a step that I am missing to get all this to link together properly with the new name?
I am using 2013 and it wont let me rename the layouts . I have just 10 layouts and it will let me rename one but not the others. The others just flash the little blue color and back to black.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working on some tooling and what I've run into is common block names being used in more than one tool.
I try to insert them into my layout and it shows multiple definitions that are duplicates but it ignores them as it continues to insert the new tool.
So then the tool is all messed up since it's trying to use the properties of the blocks from another tool.
Is there a batch routine or another simplier way to rename 40 or 50 blocks at one time?
This is happening in multiple tools and they are being generated by another customer so I can't just go talk to the guy and ask him to make a simple change.
Any way other than going into multiple tool files and changing each block name one at a time?
I am trying to find an automated way to rename multiple sheets when creating Inventor drawings.
I have an Inventor assembly, and I need to create a drawing for each component in this assembly. I have one Inventor Drawing with multiple sheets in it. Each sheet is for each part in the assembly.
I would like to loop though each sheet and rename the sheet name to the Part number of the part. Is there a simple way to do this though i Logic? And how would I go about doing something like this?
I am trying to rename all the xref's on the drawing with suffix "_renamed" With the code shown below , I am able to do this. But the problem I am facing is once the code renamed and reloaded the xref, the Xref-dependent layer properties are changing to Xref source layer properties.
Also the VISRETAIN variable is 1. Please find the code below.

Is there any easy way to have sheet name automatically pull the "description" iProperty from the part that is on the sheet? It can be very handy in a multi-sheet drawing for each sheet to have a descriptive name in the browser, but the only way to do this (that I know of) is to manually change it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEvery time we have the file dialog boxes open and try renaming or any other explore action beyond changing folder location and hitting the save button AutoCAD LT will hang and crash. We have tried starting the file operation and then just canceling and it does the same exact thing. What happens most of the time is the user will be working on a file and need to save it. They click save as and will go into the folder and right click and rename an existing file to a backup name and then hit save. It proceeds to crash instantly and the document doesn't get saved. It doesn't seem to matter the name of the file or folders or if it is a rename or delete operation. It seems to be related to bring up the explorer options within AutoCad honestly. All of our computers do the same thing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedURL....I need to copy one entire project and then rename them all, it has about 1500 parts/assys that I need to rename.
Instead of renaming all items of my project, one by one using Design Assistant, could I just make some kind of rule that renames all the parts/assy's in my project, and then update its PART NUMBER too ?
because my register code is something like this : TAG-0000-0000-00, and the only thing that's gonna change its the string TAG, nothing else. I could try to change only the first 6 that are the TAG, but this sequence of rename/open/update, how to make, and even if that's possible. Or maybe have any other specific tool to rename things this way instead of Design Assistant ?
I am using Design Assitant to rename files, but have had no luck with other referenced files.I have followed the Procedures from AutoDesk WikiHelp.
1. Open Top Assembly.
2. In the top browser, I select the part and set Action -> Rename.
3. Rename File.
4. In the bottom browser, I select the file types for additional referenced files.
5. I select (highlight) all the files.
6. Click "SAVE"
When I go to open the files, to check if the changes have been made, obviously to rename works on the Top Assembly,BUT for other additional referenced files, it doesn't.
I am doing this in a Single User Project.Just wondering if there are other steps that need to be done to use Design Assistant properly.
where to find a tutorial that explains the usage of Design Assistant? Particularly the practice of renaming assemblies and linked parts?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis lsp was passed on to me from a colleague but he doesn't know where he got it. It does a useful procedure of placing each xref, residing in the drawing, to a unique layer. The layer name is derived from the xref name. I would like to edit this to take only part of the xref name. This system I work with requires all files to have the job number as a prefix eg LE1399901_Contours.dwg, so the xref name would be LE1299901_Contours by default. I want to remove the first 10 characters to be left with "X_Xref-Contours" layer name using this code.
(defun dxf (i a) (cdr (assoc i a)))
(defun c:lxr ( / ss cnt xrs en ed bn xp xbn )
(setq ss (ssget "x" '((0 . "INSERT"))))
(setq cnt 0)

I want to duplicate & then rename a project I have stored on my vault computer, However I am experiencing many difficulties.
There are probably around 1000 + files in this project-multiple assemblies/drawings & parts. Initially i did a Pack & Go of the Project to my desktop. I then took my first top level drawings & using Design Assistant renamed all the reference parts and assemblies related too it. This worked fine, albeit a very long time to rename all the files.
The problem is that i have say 50 drawing files, some contain similar assemblies/part files which will have already been rename in the first top level drawing & some container different assemblies/parts (which are not related to the first top level drawing) & will have to be renamed separately.
Is there an easier way to duplicate & rename a vault project because design assistant makes this task extremely laborious. An great tool to add would be to 'Find & Replace' a file name & apply it too all the files. Similar to the function in Microsoft Word.
I have looked into the copy design feature in vault however, you can only copy a project within a project, you cannot copy it to a completely new folder in the vault.
The other problem is, is that you can only add a prefix or suffix to every file/related part/assembly, & i would rather replace the project number rather then add the new project number to the file names. This would be a viable option if you could rename multiple files quickly, however this just stems back to the design assistant.
I have set up a master set of dwg. files we use to create our construction documents. The files consist of a master file that xrefs base files. All of our files are named using the project # first. (i.e. 2011001c.dwg). I have set up the master set using x's to replace the numbers.
Here is how it works:
XXXXXXXc.dwg (master file) relative path xref's the following files.
XXXXXXXlw.dwg
XXXXXXXvlw.dwg
XXXXXXXeg
XXXXXXXfg
XXXXXXXtitleblock
note: all of these files are saved in the same folder.
I am trying to find a way to keep the xref paths working when I copy the files to a project folder and rename the files using the actual job # insead of the x's as place holders. As it is now, when I change the drawing name the reference is lost and I have to manually change all of the xref paths in the xref manager. Is there a command, program, or lisp routine than can change the file names and update the paths automatically.
The following code crashes with an exception at the point where I try to rename the extrusion feature:
CComPtr<ExtrudeDefinition> pExtrudeDef;
hRes = pListOfExtrusions->CreateExtrudeDefinition(pProfile,kCutOperation,&pExtrudeDef); pExtrudeDef->SetDistanceExtent(_variant_t(kHeight),kSymmetricExtentDirection);

Is it possible to rename an extrusion feature. If so what is the method to do it?

I don't see that as an option in the metadata drop down or any of the other drop downs. Is there a way to do it? I have exported it and included the metadata information and from my PC I can see it in the lower picture data, but I am sharing with a Mac user and it is easiest if the name of the swimmer is in the filename. I have over 1100 pictures and renaming them manually would be too time consuming.
