AutoCad 2D :: Importing Text Files In DDEDIT
Aug 1, 2013
I would like to know if there is a way to match or import text from a file without doing the whole "double click, highlight, right click, import text, select folder, select text file" . Kind of how you Matchprop command when you select what you want to match. Maybe have it match from ToolPalettes? Or maybe an IMPORTTEXT lisp that you just have to type in the name of the file you want to bring in.
Example ... we have a 1632PNC screw that reads:
#14 X 4" HWH TEK III,
@ EACH SUPPORT
[1632PNC]
So lets say we want to change it to be a 3" and 1616PNC I would tell it to bring in the imported text from a folder where I have text files and pick the one that reads:
#14 X 3" HWH TEK III,
@ EACH SUPPORT
[1616PNC]

I use autocad (version 2002) to draw 2D drawings which I then engrave with a rabbit laser engraving unit (model RL-60-9060). The problem I have been experiencing is that in order to engrave these files I have to save my .dwg's as .dxf's which I then import into a program called (laser systems 5.3) when I import these files everything looks fine except for the text which is shifted (only in certain random areas and always to the right) I then have to look at the file very closely and move the text back where it should be, often missing something which makes me have to go through hours of sanding my metal down and repainting it before I can try again. Ive been told that I need to explode the text in autocad to correct the issue, however I have had no success doing this.

I've recently upgraded to Corel Draw X5 having used many previous versions (back to Corel 6) but i'm having a few issues when importing .EPS files.
I normally do a design in AutoCAD, then export to .eps, then import into Corel.
Im finding an issue though, when I import an EPS that contains text, the middle section of the text will not combine and fill correctly.
For example, if I were to import a letter "Q" when I then combine the outer section to the middle section in previous versions the letter would appear normally, with a "Hollow" inner section. However, in X5, I combine the letter and the inner section does not combine with the outer section, leaving me with a solid black symbol, with the outline of a letter "Q" but no centre piece to define the actual character.

I am trying to import DGN (Microstation) files in AutoCAD but it does not work. Initially, I had tried with ACAD version 2012 and subsequently tried versions 2011 and 2010. Neither worked.
I think I have read most of the threads relating to this topic, but none seem to address my case, which is:
I use dgnimport command, select the file and check the following options: Import in the current drawing, Ignore duplicate names, desgin model from DGN file "Default", translate references to blocks or xrefs, DGN units to convert to Master units, mapping setup "Standard". I click OK.
What happens next is... nothing. Well, not exactly. It does import layers, text styles, blocks, etc. But there is nothing (no drawing) in the model or paper spaces. And from previews and accompanying pdf files, there should be plenty of drawing objects in the file.
The only error log I can see from the text window is that four DGN line styles could not be resolved. But I am hesitant to think such a minor issue would cause the whole drawing to be missing.

I am trying to import-copy- a group of .dxf files (more than 50) using VBA. The idea is to copy the data from this files in anyway, either opening the file using copy command in the original files and the paste command in the final file, using insert or the regular import option.

I am using different functions in Civil 3D 2012 in order to import DGN files.
Open->DGN
MapImport->DGN
Import->DGN
Everytiome I receive "0 object(s) inserted in 0 sec(s)".
Obviously importing is not working! Am I missing some object enabler or is a system variable incorrect?

I’m using AutoCAD MAP 3D 2012. I’m trying to import a .mdb file. The text that I’m working from says because I’m working on a 64 bit machine I will have to download from Microsoft a file called Microsoft Access Database Engine and install the proper drivers. I’ve downloaded the file and run it and rebooted my machine but I still can’t bring in the .mdb file.

Is Inventor compatible with STL files (probably not as I haven't succeeded getting them in)? I've got an object scanned and need this scan data as template to rebuild the object in Inventor. If STL files can't be imported, are there any other ways how to get point clouds or meshes into Inventor (or is it just impossible)?

I am trying to import a SHP file to obtain a surface. The imported data come in a polyline.
The data containt x and y as well as elevation. But, when I use the command
" mapimport " , the imported data only have 4 elevation ( 1,2,3 and 4). This is rather unexpected because the line represent the topography of a large area.
I am working under Civil-3D 2013. The original data are okay, they were exported from GIS and they works fine on this station.

How to import shx and lin files from Autcad LT2011 to version 2013. Each time we upgrade over the years it has been a simple task of saving the 2 files into the program file/autodesk folder however when we try to do this with LT 2013 it doesnt recognise the files. They are from another program called Artisan which uses the Autocad platform. The file extensions are: Artisan.shx and Atrisan.lin.

I am working in AutoCAD map 3D 2011. From my research online, I understand it should be able to import shape files whereas normal versions cannot. I am unable to get my version to recognize the cesus tiger shape files. I am interested in the road information only. I have noticed online that that there should be a "map" or "mapping" option on my toolbar and there is not.

I'm trying to automate importing Microstation files into AutoCad (and then doing interesting things with them). I'm stuck on the import, as it keeps throwing an "Invalid Argument Exception".
I've thrown empty strings, "hello world" strings, ensured that the string points to a valid file, ensured that the string points to a valid Microstation file... for the scale factor, I've thrown constants, symbolic constants, variable doubles... and where I think the error lies, the insertion point, I've thrown Points, Point 2d's, Point 3d's, arrays of integers, arrays of doubles, and Acad Points, and all of the above even cast as objects.
Supposedly, the signature for import is:
object IAcadDocument.Import(string FileName, object Insertion Point, double ScaleFactor)
but the <object Insertion Point> is throwing me... what kind of object is wanted? The following is a complete working program; you'll just have to add the two autocad references.
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
[code]....
(Obviously the intent is not to use hard coded file names, these are for debug purposes. I'm also running as a Windows project rather than a Console project, but the exception is the same.)

A couple months ago I could export to STL files using Inventor Pro 2012 and a third party could open them on whatever platform they are using. Now when I export to STL files, the third party cannot open them and I cannot open them either on the Inventor Pro 2012 platform. Nothing has changed since the originals were sent to the third party. I have read some of the threads, but there is a lot of STL, none of the ones I read address this problem. The properties from Windows Explorer say the file type is Certificate Trust List (.stl).

I am trying to import PTX or LAS files into Civil 3D and keep getting coordinate errors. Meaning, the scan data comes in at the right size (I've verified dimensions in RealityLINx) but for some reason the scans keep coming in close to the 0,0,0 point. I have tried two seperate projects, one with arbituary coords (7000, 7000, 600) and another with state plane coords (NAD27, Zone 5).
I have tried two ways... Through the Prospector using the CREATEPOINTCLOUD command. The scan data is in metric units and I have not found a way to convert the scan data, in Civil 3D, to feet units.
The other way I have tried is through the POINTCLOUDINDEX command. This command will convert my PTX or LAS files into a PCG and upon insertion into the drawing, I am able to give it a scale factor to try and convert to feet.
Like I said, I have done this all day today, with separate projects and keep getting the same results. I have inserted the scan data in both metric and feet units, measured identical objects and have come up with the same dimensions between the both units. But I still cannot get them to land where they need to.
I am unsure if this is a coordinate system error but most of the stuff that we scan is in an arbitrary system, so I am not sure if assigning a coordinate system will do the trick.

We have maya 2012 and autocad 2013. Does direct connect 2011 allow you to import autocad dwg files into maya? If not, has Autodesk updated direct connect as a maya/autocad plug in so we can use dwgs between the two programs? I can't get support to answer this, they keep saying "we monitor the forums, ask there." So, here goes! Autodesk ought to take a lesson from zbrush, who imports/exports with one button now!

We are working with a business partner who has been sending up Solidworks files to import into Inventor and up to today we've had no issues. We just got a bunch of files today and when we import them they appear to be empty. Can Inventor only import certain versions of SWX?
We do not know if our partner updated their SWX or not. We have tried various settings in the Options window and still the same result. I've attached a sample file. We are running the Autodesk Product Design Suite 2012 - Ultimate with Inventor SP1.

I am trying to import a step assembly file in 2013. Under the options settings I no longer have or see the ability to,
(Import Multiple Solids Parts as Assembly) This was an option to check.
This seems to be a big issue as we always import the assemblies, then ground them. And this gives us the option of moving or deleting certain components, as well as opening individual components in their own part environment.
