I have created two feature buffers - one at 25m and one at 50m. I only want to show the area between 25m and 50m and am struggling to get the Feature Overlay analysis to do this. Is it possible and if so how?
There are no intersecting areas and I'm trying to display the "doughnut" area.

I have all of my data in an Oracle database (Gas Enterprise Model). I need to join the pipe (Line) with the meter (point) in order to have the attributes of both for a report.
A query on geometry in Oracle definitely did not work and doing an overlay analysis in Map3D strips the attribute data when I create a buffer. There is nothing to join on for the tables, A Network analysis will not work because the lines are for services and don't have their connected distribution.
I have brought in Civil 3D data via sdf (points and plots/parcels) and have done an intersect query but the area of the original plot and resulting intersection are the same.
I have been working with some GIS data in the form of SHP files in autocad map 3D 2011. On one of my layers I have started getting "Feature was not saved in the target feature source" when I try to check in my data. In total there are 308 errors in the data table, all of which were features I deleted. They all have a featID of null and I cannot remove them from the data table. I need to fix these errors without going back and starting over.
I am running Autodesk Map3D 2012 and I need to label my feature points no matter if they overlap or not.The Map3D documention refers to a check box that will allow what I believe I need- but I cannot find the checkbox in the style editor. Here's a clip from the Autocad documentation:
To allow labels to obscure points on the selected layer..In the Display Manager , select the point layer. Click the Style button. In the Style Editor, click Allow Other Labels To Obscure Feature Symbols On This Layer.
I like to use the sharpen feature and the unsharp mask feature but haven't gotten very good at it. Mostly I'm wondering if there is a way to calibrate the sharpen function so that it doesn't sharpen quite so much each time I click it.
If I only have sketchup terrain model which I could export to DWG.Am I able to bring that DWG into Autocad MAP 3D to do slope analysis? If not, how should I do? What kind of file type I need? Or I need more information other than a model to do slope analysis in Autocad MAP 3D?
I am trying to find a software package that would allow me to model lightweight steel structures; agricultural style barns (up to 60x100) constructed of bar trusses and columns. I can do hand analysis, but for multiple buildings per month, it would be too time consuming. I prefer something more user friendly than finite element analysis, that would produce a quality analysis report.
I have read some through the Revit summary, but it focuses more on the maximum potential of the program and doesn't describe the minimum level it will perform at; I will never be designing a multi - story steel stadium or warehouse or office park, etc.
I have created a report from a frame analysis of an arrangement of I-Beam steelwork. I need to check that I have placed the nodes in the right order and this is reflected in the results of the report. I have the parent and child nodes connected at the ends of the beams as shown on the attached screen shot. I'm interested to know if the order in which I have selected the nods makes any difference to the results. There a 3 node connection points at each corner section.
Where can we find documentation or tutorials on the River Analysis package as it is with IDSU 2014?
We are in the middle of a few projects using BOSS's RiverCAD but with the new 2014 License files we can no longer use the AutoCAD 2010 that ran with RiverCAD.
So, I'm scrambling to get my user up and running with River Analysis and how (if possible) to port our RiverCAD projects to River Analysis with as little pain as possible.
I have to admit, I don't use RiverCAD and have not yet installed IDSU 2014. (I'm making the deployment now).
I'd really like to ditch having to support AutoCAD 2010 and RiverCAD....
I have been asked by a collegue if Map 3d will perform Network route Analysis and produce a model of the results. That is using defigned roads, footpaths etc find the shortest route from A to B.
As I'm only just getting into Map3D I couldn't answer this one. How you perform the analysis, a tutorial or example if avaliable.
I'm currently running Civil3D 2012 which should have the same functionality as Map3D 2012.

I have purchased the Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium. It comes with the Frame Generator but does not seem to have the Frame Analysis with it. Is that provided in other Suites or should I have it??
I have an 8" OD/5.523" ID steel tube. A 5.5" OD/4.957"ID tube is placed inside. The 8" and 5.5" tubes are placed over a 4.9375"OD shaft. So basically you have a hollow shaft attached to a drive shaft, with a filler tube placed between them to fill the gap. Two 1-1/2" UNC bolts are placed in matching1.531" diameter holes in every component (thru bolted) with a nut. Tightening the nut will tend to flatten the pipes, taking up the clearance between then and creating a contact pressure on the drive shaft. I have having trouble getting all of the contacts correct since the components are not in contact at the beginning of the simulation due to the radial clearances.
Two axial bolt loads of 129,000 lbs will be placed on the tubes. I have used a sliding/no separation contact between the bolt and nut. Then I put a fixed constraint on the bottom face of the nut (not in contact with the tube) and put a 129,000 force on the top of each bolt head to simulate the axial load created by the bolt preload. What type of contact should I use between the tubes that have radial clearance?
I have attached the tubes and drive shaft. The 1-1/2" bolts and nuts (both heavy hex) were found in the library.
I have a large 200+ acre site that I have created a volume surface and analyzed it using the elevation banding with color to show different levels of cut and fill. The owner has broken this area into 10 different irregular zones. Is there a way to do the elevation banding of a volume surface and have it color the individual parcels. They don't all have to be at once. I can do each one at a time and PDF the drawing.
I am trying to properly stress test a steel aircraft fuselage. I can easily model the estimated weight of the pilot, copilot, etc as loads on the airframe. However, when it comes to simulating a high-G situation, (a load factor of around 7.5 times the force of gravity), I am not sure what to do. On one hand, I can simply multiply the loads on the airframe by the load factor and see if the frame can take it. In most cases, it performs very poorly, (safety factor less than 1). However, if I model all the loads under normal conditions, (normal pilot weight, etc.), then add a gravity load equal to 7.5 G, the airframe performs well. Yet I am not sure if the loads on the airframe, (such as pilot weight), are being adjusted along with the increased gravitational load.
My question is, what is the best way to accurately simulate real world loading for high-G situations?
I am doing an eigen frequency analysis of a structure in the range of 0 to 1500 Hz. For my structure I am getting about 6 modes as expected.
For the final results I will mass normalize to convert to an energy based on the relative "displacements" However, each of the "displacements" for the 6 eigenfrequencies are the same?
I know this can not be right as it would mean that all have the same energy which is impossible.
how do I use Civil 3D to do basic pipe analysis computations? For example, I give it the slope, material, etc. and it spits out the flow velocity, flow depth, slope min, etc.
All I want for now is a basic tool for sizing pipes without all the bells, loops & whistles. I can learn the fancy pipe networking stuff later.
I can not get the slope analysis to come up with 10 slope ranges. My ranges are set to 10, but my Range details populate to 22? Screen Cap included. I've tried this with Equal Interval, Quartile, and Standard Deviation. Nothing will create 10 intervals.
My "slope analysis" surface style is set to show Slope, with the range set to 10. In surface properties, my range is set to 10.
We have an "original" existing surface of a ditch, a massive ditch. dredging has taken place and now we have a new existing surface of the ditch. the client wanted to see the delineation between the areas that are now 3" lower, 6" lower and 9" lower (and so on). I was able to do this easily with elevation banding. now the client would like some sort of GPS uploadable based on the color map that shows the banding. How to accomplish this without having someone set there and set points along the different colors on the surface. that is going to be incredibly time consuming. is there an automated way to export the data that I am looking for?
It appears color transparency for surface analysis is now broke in 2013. It used to work in 2011 because I use to bring in Lidar data and run elevation analysis over top of aerial photos. I never found any type of resolution. Is Autodesk aware and are they working on this?
This issue reminds me of the Point Cloud issue with Lidar data right after 2013 came out. It worked in 2011 just fine and then 2013 they broke it. After calls to autodesk support and thread exchanges plus several months of waiting, service pack 2 for 2013 fixed the lidar classification issue.
I've tried to create a surface analysis by using a point group reading xdata to set the elevations and when I set my surface properties to display the elevation shades it will only allow me to set the range to 5 or less. All of the other analysis settings for direction, slope, and slope arrows allow me to input the nuber of ranges I want, but I need the elevation analysis.
I am trying to determine how to properley constrain the assembly below, so that the compression of the rubber gasket will be properly indicated.
Currently I am seeing the deflection of the shelf in the downward direction, but I do not see any indication of stress in the gasket behind.Currently the gasket is "bonded" to the steel tube the screws are bonded to the shelf bracket and the steel tube.
I put in "work axis" at the center line of the shelf bracket and the CL of the gasket, but I can't find a way to constrain to a work axis. The file is too large to upload here...
I need to be able to do a slope analysis on a surface, but I need to have it calculate the slope in a direction - east and north. Any way to do it? Maybe even if there is a quick way to apply slope labels to a surface based on a grid - say the slope from N0.00, E0.00 to N0.00 to E 25.00
I have two surface ( OG surface and Gravel LIFT ), i need to have a table that Show me Depths range between those two surface with a color range, in a table and also to be able to see it in the the top surface.
Basically, In every Spot of the surface, need to represent a Depth range between the OG and the gravel surface by a specific Color.
and it says I don't have enough memory! How can this be? Its not that complicated of an assembly. I have done bigger. I excluded all the part I'm not using and they are all basic plate and tube parts. There are less than 20 parts in the assembly.
I've got an elevation analysis with a nice range of colours in plan which look fine but I want to display this in a 3D view for a presentation.
I selected the object and went to object viewer but I can't get the analysis in colour. I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious but can't figure out what...

I have used a few times 'Stress analysis' before. Today I discovered it is disabled. I applied a software update (SP1, build 222), after which I could run a Stress analysis again. However, Inventor crashed soon, and after restarting it, Stress analysis is disabled again. In 'Add-In Manager' the 'Simulation: Stress analysis' is shown as 'Automatic/Loaded'.
UPDATE: I have unchecked the 'Load Automatically' option for this module, quit Inventor, started it again, loaded the module and now it seems to work. I don't know yet for how long...
UPDATE2: well I could start a Stress analysis, but everything is disabled there, I can not create a simulation for example.
