I'm playing around with the FEMA NFHL Database and have some text set up to provide the Flood Zone of the Polygon as shown below. I'm getting an invalid expression, when I go to add the word Zone to the front of the data.

I have been asked to make the title text larger (drawing are being issued at 1/2 scale, A1 to A3) on a large set of drawings. My solution was to copy the title attribute block to a temporary location, resize the attributes and redefine the block by running a script (scriptpro). Some drawings needed the title line split to next line so I had to move the sheet counter (1 of xx, 2 of xx etc.) which was linked to drawing file name for number with a field/formula.
The diesel expression shown below extracts that number. My problem is I cant figure out how to I can edit this expression to allow for a set not starting at 1. I had used a formula to subtract the difference,but how do you express this to run in a script?

Can a expresion be use for text anchor point or Attachment?
I looking at using the ML or MR based on if the distance is Plus or Minus.

I have two questions on animating 2D text. First, is there a way to randomize the actual text, as you can do in AE? For example, I have a string of numbers, le's say "24234" and I'd like them to change randomly over time. Second, I'd like the text to flicker on and off, but on regular intervals, such as every frame it would alternate from 0% opacity to 100% opacity. I was thinking of doing this with an expression that would simply evaluate the frame, and outout 0 or 1 depending on whether the frame is even or odd.

The only way I would know how to do it is manually typing every letter, but that's a lot of work! Suddenly, I must have hit something, all new text added to my drawing when using Multi-line mode is Upside down. When using single line mode new text is backward. When looking at the properties the text is NOT shown as upside down or backward and my text style is set to Standard and has not changed. This problem is isolated to the current drawing. If I open a new drawing text is entered correctly.

Text nexer is visible on the photo Background image. If the edited image is saved, the added typed text is not saved; only the original Background image. While adding text and applying (experimenting) various "Effects" with the text, I used the garbage can icon to remove the "Effect", thinking it is going to remove the 'Effect" from the text, until I realized I had to remove the "Effect" with the edit button, not the garbage can. Have I now permanently removed the various "Effects" permanently or just off the screen? How do I regain them back onto the menu column? How many "Effects" should be visible in order to have the complete set? This was my first experiment with the lettering effects and hope I haven't lost them forever.

I would like to add text to my dimension but as I have overridden my FONTALT variable it does not display. The dimension on the LHS is exactly the same as the one on the RHS (during edit). Neither will display the text I want which in this instance is WEB.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently run across an odd issue when adding text to a drawing in Civil 3D. The problem comes with creating a new text item in an existing drawing. In this drawing, if I insert a text object, Civil freezes up for several minutes. Once it is un-frozen, the text pops up as it should and everything works as normal. This happens for both single line and multi line text, with any of my text styles, and across all layers that I have tried. Other regular drawing objects do not cause any problems, and there are also no problems editing any existing text objects.
To troubleshoot, I have created new drawings and added text, but they do not have problems. I have also opened other existing drawings, but no problems with those either. I am worried that the drawing file may be corrupted, but audits and recovers don't show ay errors, and I have purged out everything not in use.
The strangest part is that if I open the same drawing in Map 3D, I have the same text insertion problems, but when I open it in plain CAD or in Raster Design, the text will insert with no problems.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was adding text and leaders to a drawing and after the text was entered I pushed the escape key. It then asked me if I want to save my text. It also had a check box asking me if I always want to perform that so it wouldn't keep popping up with that question. Well, I had checked that I didn't want the text and I also checked the box to always perform that answer. And now it won't save any text that I write. It just keeps the leader. How can I get the text to stay and undo the box that I checked to always answer that way (to not keep text)?

I want to be able to move the text on the dimension closer to the arrowhead without actually exploding it... my current solution is to separate the text (TYP.) from the dimension (see image)
Is there a variable or setting to shorten the length of the dim line on the dimension?
I find the 3D side of the software is great for modeling. But when it comes to the 2D drawing side of it, especially dimensioning and the adding of text label is very poor, when compared again other CAD packages including AutoCad Mechanical and LT.
Why is it not on par with AutoDesk other 2D packages!

I am populating iProperty "Description" field using expressions from the custom fields. These custom fields are exported from the parameters.
Is there a way of typing in extra plain text into the field onto the end of the expression without losing the expression formula?

What I am attempting to do is: add text, some dims., and some info. to a viewport i have added to a drawing for my field guys. I am a sheet metal worker and have produced a drawing of duct work. one viewport is a plan view, one is a swiso, and another is a left-elevation view. everything is good except the left-elevation view which I would like to add details to. I am assuming I need to change the ucs so that i can place lines, dims and text and get them to show up without them snapping to 0 z.

I am trying to create an expression in SAC and am having trouble getting it to work the way I want. The goal is to have the subassembly figure out what slope to use. If I do not have super elevation, I want it to use the grade for the in the input.output parameters. If I do have super elevation, I want it to use the super settings. So far I have this
IF((Side=Left)AND(SE.HasLeftSO),SE.LeftSO,CType(ShoulderSlope,Double))
This works if I am only creating a left side. However, I want it to decide which side super elevation settings by the input parameter side.
I can publish a part containing a user text parameter to the content centre for use in frame generator however when I go to insert that part an error as per the attached screen shot.
To re-create the error you have to follow the below steps.

Is there a way to work around this error being created and use parts with text user parameters in Frame Generator?
One of the main things I do is label elevations from an alignment and a profile, in plan view.
I have a style that does this, and it gets to the point where it asks to pick the profile.
If the profiles are data ref's, i can pick from a list, but if the alignment is xreffed, you must do a graphical pick.
This is super inconvenient, as my profile views are in a different base than my alignments, and they are way off to the side.
So I must xref the profile base in, and split my viws so I can pick them without excessive zooming.
Did Autodesk neglect the fact that if they make objects available via xref, they also need to make child objects available?
If I choose to use a dref as the data source, I must make a dref to the alignment and each profile I want available.
Three steps per street at a minimum.
This is also super inconvenient.
I'm struggling to find a decent workflow on this. Both approaches seem painful.
I had always thought the xreffed objects would provide the profiles, and only found they do not just now [URL]...
Having this issue with IE9? I have a table driven iPart that has an expression in the description field. The expression is =PL <THICK> x <WIDTH>, so that as the thickness and width change the description of this plate also changes. I have recently added rows to this part for the use of bar instead of plate on certain shapes. In order for the bar description to match standard steel shape nomenclature the expression on these parts needs to be =BAR <WIDTH> x <THICK>. How can I add the description to the iPart table so that I can simply edit the bar parts to be as needed?
Some things to note:
1.) These are custom iParts so when the item is inserted you select the thickness, file name, save location, etc.
2.) There are about 705 lines to this iPart right now and I would prefer not to go higher.
3.) I would like to keep these as the same iPart instead of having two different files.
4.) I need the description to be an expression because long after these parts are placed, they sometimes change and I need the dimensions to update after the fact like all our other parts (so don't forget that these one won't and then the drawings are incorrect).

get 2012 to make an expression for curve delta angles come in DMS and not decimal degrees? Why do I need this? Well C3D does not have a delta angle label for curve pipe and our client requires it on the drawings.
