AutoCAD LT :: Measure Perimeter Of Part And Length Of Circle
Oct 2, 2012
Is there any way to quickly measure the perimeter of a part, and also measure the length of any circles?
Our estimator is taking the drawings supplied from the customers and needs to quickly know what the cut length is around the part, and then also know the cut length of all holes or internal openings.

I am trying to create a iLogic Rule that will measure the Length, Width and Thickness of a part and ut it into the custom fields we have. I am having a hard time remembering how to get it to do it from the assembly level. I want to run this on the assembly and have it populate all the parts inside of it. The code below will do it for a part but what is it I add to get it to drill down into the assembly?
iProperties.Value("Custom", "THICKNESS")=Measure.ExtentsHeight
iProperties.Value("Custom", "WIDTH")=Measure.ExtentsWidth
iProperties.Value("Custom", "LENGTH")=Measure.ExtentsLength
Then I want to add this formula to the Stock Number iProperty = <Length> X <Width> I can get it to add the values but I can not get it to add the formula to the stock number.

I'm trying to write a VB.Net program (Visual Studio 2010 Express) for Inventor 2012 that will add up the length of all the edges of a flat pattern including any cutouts/holes in the part. I need the total length to do an estimate on the amount of time required to cut out the pattern on a laser. How to get this info programatically in VB?

I´m triyng to do a autolisp routine to calculate the perimeter of a drawing with several entities like arc, polyline, spline, lines and circles.
In the web i found out a autolisp routine that calculate this but it doesnt recognizes circles.
I need that the circles can be recognized, does some one knows how i can do that?

I was wondering if it is possible to measure the total length of lines I have in one layer without using the measure tool on each individual line. In searching other posts a lot of answers reccomend using LISP. Since I am not familiar with LISP at all and haven't purchased the add on is there a simpler way using AutoCAD LT?

In an attempt to aid purchasine I have started adding a length and width parameter to our models. These parameters are converted to a purchase parameter either in square feet or per foot length depending on how the material is purchased. I would like the paramater to also automatically update if the part size is changed. I now come to a part made of a round shaft that is bent and am looking for a way to get an accurate length for it. The part is made with a sweep and the square corners are radisuesd in the sewwp. I could pull the three dimensions in the sketch and add them together to roughly appeoximate the length but that would not be quite accurate. As the number I come up with will also be used by fab to cut the rod before bending I would like it to be correct. Is there a way to generate an accurate length that can be saved as a parameter? In SWx I would create a datum axis in a sketch that could be used but I am not seeing how to do that here.

Is there a tool where you just click on any line and it tells you how long the line is from end to end?
Basically I am drawing a curvy line that twists and turns here and there, but the line has to be less then so long. So I have to approximate the length by doing strait measurements and multiplying, it's really a pain.
I'd much rather just click the line, and it tell me how long it is from end to end, across turns and rounded edges and corners.

Using Autocad 2000 LT and would like to know the best way to draw a 1/4" dia circle pattern. The circles centers to be 3/4" in from the edge and equal distance apart ( as close to 1" as possible) on all four sides of an 8" x 12" rectangle. Have tried a rectangular array and can't seem to get it to work properly.

I have just started to use ilogic, what i want to do is measure the length of a loop in a sketch and then use this measurement as a parameter.
I have found this rule that will measure the loop length and display it in a message box
Dim se As SketchEntity = ThisDoc.Document.ComponentDefinition.Sketches(1).SketchLines(1)
MsgBox(ThisApplication.MeasureTools.GetLoopLength(se)*10 & " mm")
but i do not know how to capture the measurement as a parameter .

I'm working in laser cut and very often I need to know how long is the path I'm going to cut with my laser machine. It is very useful to know the length (and the area) of each path while you're designingin Illustrator. I know you can already measure lines or whole objetcs, what I mean is to know the exact path lenght of the lines included in a logo, for exemple, or in a complex drawing.
How I could get this informations in Illustrator CS6?

I'm using paint.net ver. 2.6.
I'm trying to measure length using the grid and viewing the image in its "actual size", but 'm getting a wrong value (e.g. 3cm instead of 1cm).
Is there a correct way to measure length in paint.net?

I made a screw that intrudes into a part, but not to the end.
I want to measure the remaining distance, so, i have to select the face of the screw and the hole in the part.
I cannot do that since the program doesn't let me select the faces.
I tried to slice the part with the half section view, but when i press the measure tool the section view ends.

I've created Custom properties, parameters, to get the outside measure of the parts and it works fine until we create and leave activated a work plane outside the part so it measures not until the end of the part but until the plane.

I´m trying to measure the base dimensions of simple geometric shapes. I started out with plates since they are easy to measure as long as they sit in 90°, 180° and 270° positions relative to the origin. Then Measure.ExtentsLength, Measure.ExtentsWidth and Measure.ExtentsHeight will give me the base dimensions of a plate.
However, if the plate sits abitrary relative to origin this will obviously fail, since Measure.Extents only measures in x,y,z
Is there any way how I get positions of the geometry that is in the part, like corners surfaces on the B-REP so I can calculate the dimensions properly for a plate. I´m not sure if this is possible with iLogic. I have a strong suspicion VB.net would be needed for this.
Another problem I have is that derived parts don´t get triggered to run a script when I change the geometry in the Multibody Part and the rule is set to run by any modelgeometry change.

I'm trying to plan an access road which must run at least 2.5m away from an existing fenceline. I've put a few parallel road lines in at 3m distance, but at the fence bends I decided to put some circles at the bend points to give me a 3m radius. When I did this I was suprised to find that the circle extends further than my access road. I've dimensioned them both up, CAD is telling me they're both 3m away but they're clearly not at the same distance.

I am trying to programatically update Units of Measure on a part or document through Document Settings, but the changes are not reflected. I cannot save the file, because the file is a result of import, so I want to leave it up to the user. During import, I am recognizing what type of units the import file has, and I need to impose them on the document, and immediately show. I cannot use templates. There is a similar issue when the Units of Measure are updated manually through the screen, they are not reflected.

I'm trying to make a circle with the radius of 200*sqrt(3). Is this even possible? Or will illustrator round the equation to the thousandths? If illustrator will just round the equation to the thousandths, I can enter the number myself, but I was hoping it could find the point.

I have created a ilogic rule that should set the size and the cut length of my parts. Most of the time the rule behave as I want it to. But sometime it gives me a error. See attached picture. By the way, I have included this rule in my custom content center parts (beam's etc). The rule is:
'Turn off workfeatures
ThisDoc.Document.ObjectVisibility.AllWorkFeatures = False
'check if the part has any geometry
If Measure.ExtentsLength="0" Then
[code]........

This is my first time using Inventor but I've been using ProE for several years in school. A friend of mine told me about a feature in ProE where you are able to define a part and then define one of the lengths as it is placed into an assembly. For example I would define a 2x4 part with a length of 84inches. If I wanted a 2x4 of 68inches in my assembly I would use the same file but simply change the 84 to 68. How can I do this with Inventor?

A coworker brought this to my attention and I was also immediately able to reproduce this. We use content center C channels and other common beams a lot. After inserting one into an assembly if you right click and select change size and edit the length it typically doesn't update to the correct length.
Example:
Insert a 10" Ansi MC/C channel any size
right click and select change size
add +.0625 to the existing length and hit apply
measure it at 10.06252 in
repeat change size and type in 10.0625
measure it at 10.0625
repeat change size and type in 10 + .0625
and measure at 10.06252 in
It seems to mess up more when you do math but it also screws up entering a simple number
10.000325 usually ends up as 10.000315 in for me.
Editing the part directly from it's parameter dialog doesn't yield anything like this.

I want to cut the part of the yellow rectangle off the circle. Easy peasy with Photoshop: Layer 1 for the blue circle, Layer 2 for the rectangle, Layer 1 Control + click, then Layer 2, invert selection, delete.
Of course I can delete nodes and adapt the shape to the curve, but I don't know how to cut the figure quickly in Illustrator.

So you know when a video buffers, it is typically a round path with circles or lines and such that go from dark to light? Well, I need something like that for a logo design. I am trying to create a custom art brush, but its not happening. I created the shape Id like for all of the things to be along the path, but I don;t know which method of creating a brush to use.
Also, how to make each part around the circle get lighter?

Using LT 2009.
I am just using wipeout for first time, made some door blocks with it to hide wall the door is planted onto.
I find that the wipeout works fine for the area within the wipeout, but does not work well at the wipeout's perimeter.
I have messed with draw order, frame on/off, line weight, and am not able to get wipeout to hide correctly at it's perimeter.
In print preview it looks fine. Printing pdf with Acrobat leaves a line. Printing to HP laser prints line that is supposed to be hidden.
You can see the pdf attached. Zoom in and you will see the line. The hatch and inner lines are all hidden just fine.

The architect has a schedule set up that will schedule his room numbers and names. He draws spaces for each room.
I want to add perimeter and area to this. I copied this room schedule in the tool pallete, renamed it with "trial", added columns for perimeter and area, BUT STILL GET ? FOR VALUES!
I've looked everywhere and it should work. When I look at "properties" of the space it shows area and perimeter, but I can't figure out how to extract the info.

I'm doing a parts manual and would like to have a heavier perimeter line weight around each of my parts or sub assemblies. I know I can manually change the line weights however some lines that make up part of the perimeter also run into my part or assembly so this doesn't really work. Is there a way to get inventor to do it automatically?
I'm running inventor 2012, and generating a .dwg file from an .ipn.
