AutoCAD Inventor :: Modifying Component Visibility With Custom View Rep
Oct 11, 2011
In my neverending battle to find a way to turn off unneeded components in an assembly, I'm trying my hand at modifying component visibility with a custom View Rep. View reps seemed to pose fewer issues than LOD's (in that you can have a drawing and model open at the same time without a million error messages)......until I tried to make a pattern.
When first placing a new subassembly component into an assembly, it will automatically place in the "Last Saved" View Rep. Since certain parts may be invisible in my "skeletal" subassembly, this is ideal. HOWEVER, when I try to pattern this subassembly, all of the occurrences absolutely insist on displaying at the "Master" View Rep. This makes no sense to me whatsoever and destroys yet another workflow at the 99% mark. I understand that I can change the view rep manually, but manual workarounds and corrections defeat the point of using iLogic to manipulate our models.
Am I the only CAD user who wants the simple ability to "turn off" an assembly component? iAssemblies are not an option due to the shear number of combinations of unneeded components.
I am using this code to turn visibility of components off in IDw file, what I need top turn visibility of a component of in a subassembly.
'oDrawingDocument = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument 'Get the first view 'Dim oView As Inventor.DrawingView 'oView = oDrawingDocument.ActiveSheet.DrawingViews.Item(2)
I have a component pattern with 3 components in it and I need to remove one of the components from the pattern. How can I modify the pattern through the API? I have tried various things but I do not appear to be able to change the pattern.
I'd like to set up a keyboard shortcut so that when I press the 'V' key, inventor toggles the visibility of the selected part or assembly. However, "Visibility" seems to be about the only command that doesn't exist in the list of keyboard shortcuts*. I found this post in which someone says it's not possible, but might be using VBA. I've done some iLogic but know nothing about Inventor's inner-working VBA. I'm wondering if there's some workaround, VBA or otherwise, that'll allow me to toggle visibility using the 'V' key.
*actually it does but it says it's only available for use in Inventor Studio. Go figure.

I am using some code from the June 2010 "Mod the machine" posted by Brian Erkins.I keep getting an error in C# (express 2010), Please see attached screen dump.
I don't see any obvious difference in my code when compared to Brian's (in fact at one point I copied and pasted his code and still had the same error). Here is the
I am looking for a way to create an external rule that will allow me to turn off the visibility of bolt generator items in the model while I am looking at the drawing. Bolts may be buried several subassemblies (4 - 6) deep.
A coworker of mine has made a bunch of custom extrusions, turned them into iParts, and published them to the Content Center. The parts are driven in length by the key parameter "Length". Unfortunately, he forgot to mark that "Length" parameter as export in the parameter dialogue before publishing. Is there ANY way to get that "Length" parameter to be exported so the Parts List can pull the cut length?
I found this code to create a custom iProperty in the current, open document:
Dim propertyName As String = "MyProperty"Dim propertyValue as String = "Test Value"customPropertySet = ThisDoc.Document.PropertySets.Item("Inventor User Defined Properties")Try prop = customPropertySet.Item(propertyName)Catch ' Assume error means not found customPropertySet.Add("", propertyName)End TryiProperties.Value("Custom", propertyName) = propertyValue
I have a iLogic rule that goes through each component of an assembly, counts how many times it occurs in the assembly, and then assigns that value to an iProparty (i.e. it inserts the total quantity of the part in some iProperty). Currently, however, it assigns the value to a default iProperty value, "Authority". I'd like, instead, for it to assign it to a custom iProperty called "Total QTY". However, I don't know how to tell Inventor to do the above code for a component in the assembly rather than the assembly itself. Below is my entire code. I've labeled where I'm guessing the above code should go. How I'd modify the above code to create the iProperty in the component being processed by the rule at that point?

I want to turn off visibility of certain parts in an overlay view but when I right click on the parts or the view(s) the visibility is greyed out. Why does this happen and how can I correct it?

He makes a detail. In the enlarged view he makes a sketch. He then makes a break out. Within the enlarged view, in the gap which the break out opened up for clarity of the view, are two components that he wishes to make its hidden lines visible. Doing this locks up his machine and makes a single component turn red.
How to manage the visibity of parts on a particular view? For example, in a view there 10 parts appeared. I would like to make only selected parts visible on the said view.
I have the manual steps on how to hide them but when I try to code it using the said step, the parts on the model file were hidden not in the view.
I use oView.ReferenceDocumentDescriptor.ReferenceDocument in traversing the parts but this refers to the model file.
Here is my
Set ViewDocument = oView.ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument For Each ViewOccurence In ViewDocument.ComponentDefinition.Occurrences If Not nozzleName = ViewOccurence.ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.DisplayName Then ViewOccurence.Visible = False End If Next
How to manage the visibility of components in a particular view?
In attach file,View 2 is a detail view of view 1. On view 2, I want to display only the nozzle (Drain (H):1) and shell (C1306388341:1) component. So I need to set the visibility of the other component to false. When I try to code this, the components of model file of view 1 was updated not the view.
Set ViewDocument = oDetailView.ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument For Each ViewOccurence In ViewDocument.ComponentDefinition.Occurrences If nozzleName <> ViewOccurence.ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.DisplayName Then ViewOccurence.Visible = False End If Next
The reference document I set for my code is not the document which contains the view 2. So I need to the actual reference document where view 2 belongs which is in the box of view 2 that contains 5 components.
Is there code for changing the color (or other properties) of the visible edges of a component in a drawing view, the same way I can do it manually by right-clicking a component and choosing Properties?
I wrote this rule to change the color of each individual drawing curve:
Edit: Ignore the "<!". It's the only way I could get the iLogic code to successfully post in the message
Spoiler (Highlight to read)<!Dim drawViews AsDrawingView For Each drawViews In ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ActiveSheet.DrawingViews occ3 = drawViews.ReferencedDocumentDescriptor.ReferencedDocument.ComponentDefinition.Occurrences.ItemByName("GF_Plenum:1") Dim newColor3 As Color newColor3 = ThisApplication.TransientObjects.CreateColor(0,255,255)
I have a blown out detail on one of my Inventor drawings, I would like to toggle the visibility of some parts in this detail view however when I RHMB these under the browser I can't turn off the visibility

But it seems that the onselect event only catches selection of drawing views or balloon, annotation etc, but not the component inside the drawing view is this intentional or a bug?
The reason i need to catch this is to make a new context menu action, so i need the selected item. I know i can use SelectionSet, but i want to be able to debug my application as an external application connecting to the running instance before i build it into an addin (saves me a lot of inventor restarts..) And Selection Set does not seem to work when i use it inside an event handler in an external application...
I am working on a project to assign balloons to components in drawing view automatically. Of course, I don't want to assign a balloon to a component which is invisible (hidden) in this drawing view.
So, is there any API function to check whether the component in the drawing view is invisible or hidden?
I have a section view of an assembly. The parts of the assembly that are completely remove via the section no longer show up in the browser. Is there a way to make them show back up in the browser and/or section view? They are internal to the assembly and I would like them not sectioned/removed from the view.
I'm creating a small product configurator using ilogic. It all works fine, but i've i challenge:controlling the visibility of the components in a drawing view
In simple words, every occurrence of my assembly has an custom Ipropertie calles "Positie". there where 4 values (Bodem, Zij, Kop, Deksel and Overig)In a drawing view i only want to see the parts that has a specific value of the ipropertie "Positie".I found a sample code for VBA, but I cann't get it worked in ilogic.:
Sub HideSecond() 'Assumes you have an open drawing 'Assumes that view 1 of the active sheet is an assembly 'Turns off visibility of assembly's second component in open drawing's first view [code]....
hind to turn this into ilogic and add the option to check the ipropertie to turn on the visibility
I'm in the process of creating an exploded view of an assembly. I'm having to do this in a presentation file, and I was wondering if it was possible to section one of the parts in the exploded view. To be more specific, I have the majority of my parts spread out around another assembly in the center of the page. I want to get a three quarter section view of the center assembly so the internals are visible. Is this possble from within a presentation file and if so, how can it be done?

Can this be done? I want to go through the DrawingView Object to get at a subcomponent of an assembly and either set that component to have hidden lines (where needed) or no hidden lines.
I have an assembly with a client feature that contains client graphics. I have exposed the visibility (ClientFeature.Definition.ClientGraphicsCollection[1].Visible) to the user via a context menu option. Changing the visibility currently affects all view representations. Is there a way to associate the visibility with each design view representation?
I had created a structural member using the structural member wizard. I used many instances of the member in my drawing. However, the thickness of the member needs to be modified. Is there a method to modify the existing custom structural member without creating a new custom structural member?
We are having an issue when we replace a component in Inventor Pro 2012. When we replace a component, the name in the browser does not update to the new component. We've even tried to close and re-open the Inventor assembly and that does not work. We end up manual double clicking the name in the browser and type in the new component name.

II need a way to tell if a component occurence is a virtual component.
I'm using a For Each loop to cycle through all of the components in an assembly, and if the component is itself an assembly to set the LOD to "Custom". I'm using the definition document descriptor object for this. It all woks fine until the loop comes across a virtual component which doesn't have a definition document, so I need a way to check if the component is virtual and needs to be skipped. Here's the
Option ExplicitImports Inventor.LevelOfDetailEnumSub MainiLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueDim doc As AssemblyDocumentDim oLOD As LevelOfDetailRepresentationDim oAsmCompDef As ComponentDefinitionDim oComp As ComponentOccurrenceDim oComps As ComponentOccurrencesdoc = ThisDoc.DocumentIf. [code]....
I am trying to make port rims for pipes that can be swapped in and out of an assembly. However, the ports will all be different sizes and located differently so I need the cut to be part of the port rim component, but affect the entire assembly it is part of. I've been trying to get this to work for the better part of a day now,Here's a picture of what im talking about. I'm running Inventor 2008 by the way.
I have a program that create a bunch of new custom Iprop in each part of an assembly.
How can I show all those new properties when I open the BOM in the assembly file. Manually I can add a custom column but that is time consuming. Is there a way I can create a macro that will add those custom column in the BOM view?
I found some code to add labels such as "Top View" "Left" view etc. to view labels, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm OK with the default "View 1" and "Scale 1/4" that comes up on the multiview but I want the view label to say something like "Flat Pattern" and "Scale 1/4" when I do a flat pattern and same for ISO. How to accomplish that with iLogic?
